  1. I like how the plan is to cut $5 billion from Texas education (already near last in education funding) while absorbing the influx of new students moving into the state, while at the same time demanding a $10000 degree... and we expect to have an educated workforce in the future.

  2. Calm down buddy... I've worked at LBJ, rotated at Ben Taub, and currently work at Parkland. This new hospital undoubtedly makes Ben Taub and LBJ look shabby, its just a simple fact. It makes the current Parkland look shabby. Both Ben Taub and Parkland are awesome training grounds.

  3. New Parkland hospital construction is underway... $1.3 billion county hospital right on the light rail. Makes Ben Taub and LBJ look pretty shabby.

The nearly 2 million-square-foot Parkland hospital will replace the existing 55-year-old facility, and, when complete, will be the largest public hospital building in the nation built in one phase. The $1.27 billion project will include a new, 862-bed hospital, as well as a separate clinic building, parking structures and other support facilities.

  4. I grew up in JV... live in Dallas now.

Certain areas of Jersey Village have never flooded (including my mom's house)... other areas have been a disaster in the past and shouldn't be touched. Nice neighborhood with some really old parts (original JV houses of 1950ish) and some really nice parts in the back. JV police department is great and keeps the neighborhood quiet.

Junction of Bwy 8 and 290 could potentially be quite nice in 15 years or so... but of course 290 is a disaster now.

  5. I must say that The Niche's constant antagonism makes me less inclined to post on this site...

DT turned out better than I expected. Makes a nice impression from the park... it looks modern and the turbines do add an aesthetic flare.

Too bad I can't say the same thing for the ugly and uninteresting Embassy Suites...

  6. Honestly, DART is 50 miles of track. Metro is 7 miles of track (and goes from DT to TMC). There's really not much of a comparison. If Metro ever gets enough funding to head to the burbs, as Dallas has done, then the stations would look barren as well.

Also, DARTs most established line (red) has spawned two fairly nice ($100s of million) mixed-use TOD in Mockingbird Station and Park Lane. The Metro? Houston pavillions...

I rode the Metro light rail everyday for four years, but Metro's lack of grade separation makes DART far superior.

  7. It's awesome. The resolution upgrade is sweet, and text looks great if you read a lot on your iphone, which I do. Battery life is the 2nd best improvement. FaceTime will be cool eventually (limited number of friends with 4, wi-fi only). Photo quality is significantly improved.

I haven't had any dropped calls (in Dallas).

  8. You can make WAY more money by convincing your neighbors to rent out their home to 2 or 3 hot Croatian dudes and then turn around and rent out your house to a bunch of gay men who can stalk them. Central/Eastern Euro porn is all the rage.

    Pretty strange statement.

  9. Aw, man...that's very disappointing. At least the current crappy Market Square is not totally useless, in the fact that you can see clear across it. :(

But I guess all those dog owners that live around Market Square will like the fact now their dogs have a place to "walk". :D

This would be really cool...if it were in 1986 San Leon.

I disagree... I think it is a definite improvement over what currently exists. And adding the Nikko Nikko's Cafe should bring people to the park. The surrounding businesses will gain customers.
