One small teaser, 3 pages of arguing about the significance of Philip Johnson...

Pretty lame... and that giant grassy driveway (which can't be accurate) makes it seem like the building is out in the exurbs.

TMC is pretty amazing. Enjoyed seeing an updated overview shot. Not pictured is the huge MD Anderson administrative building south of the bayou. This Zayed building somewhat marks the end of about a 10 year spurt of constant major construction in the TMC.
That bayou needs to be fixed badly.

Another boring building... Hopefully by the end the entrance isn't facing away from Discovery Green a la the POS city-subsidized Embassy Suites.

At the bottom of that Chron.com article:
"Still, Midtown has yet to see any significant new retail, retail broker Ed Page said, referring to big-box stores like Target, TJ Maxx and Best Buy."
WTF... a TJ Maxx or Best Buy in Midtown? What an idiot.

HA! Replies to the OP question about moving into the area are classic!
"The police response times are awesome!"
"The drug dealers don't really bother me, but the male prostitutes do..."
Sure does make one want to move right in. Great thread.

That corner of cladding looks like it could belong on a prison... great addition to Post Oak streetscape!

I'm not sure how "it might take...decades" and "as of now, it's on track" can congruently describe this project...

After we're all dead, or close to it.
Depends on age and future survival... Few people on this site are 20ish, will live to be 100ish, and be available to see Htown in 2092 depending on eyesight and mental status.

I'm so happy to hear that on average, an animal in the Columbus zoo has an abode bigger than the average Houston residence. Efficiency-wise.. We're kicking ass. Cram those animals in there.
This is basically counter to what most people think make the nation's best zoos more appealing and humane. Large, natural environments are the trend. San Diego and Ft. Worth are good examples.

Not happening.

I'm dubious this is a real deal.

Are they starting on phase four before three even breaks ground?! The housing crash was a blessing in disguise for apt developers, dang!
They applied for a variance today at the Planning Commission.
There was no disguise.

Methodist cafeteria has good food. Everything closes late evenings though so I think you're looking in the wrong spot for after hours.

The homeless aren't the problem. All large cities have homeless. The lack of downtown residents is the problem.

$39 million doesn't seem like enough to make it anything exceptional for that prime location... probably be some sort of unsustainable wood frame construction like the adjacent Camden Midtown.

Insipid architecture...

Even still, that prospect is very possible and has me salivating at the mouth to dream of one day seeing my city so dense.
/happy rant
It may one day be that dense, but I doubt you will be alive to see it...

I'm curious, why are developers constantly tearing down existing properties that generate positive revenue before they have secured financing for a replacement development?
The previous Regent Square renderings were great, but they were probably overly ambitious even before the Great Recession and tightening of credit.

Probably buttressing to add stability to the turbines.
I hate seeing that ridiculous crown on top of Embassy Suites.

The field level is less depressed than I was expecting...
-
"Redstone CEO Steve Lerner says it was always his vision to build a “crown jewel” in the heart of the Galleria."
Too bad his vision will not become a reality...

Seems smart to me.
Not having a symbol of energy efficiency on top of your building sounds better than having a turbine fall off of Hess Tower and kill someone, with the liability and bad publicity that entails.

Dallas vs. Houston stuff is so lame. Brings out the adolescent behavior.

Petitioner came by the in-laws house on Gross St (perpendicular to Alpha St in the diagram) trying to drum up support for blocking this development. He said Gross St and Alpha cannot handle the increased traffic/trucks from the delivery/service access at the back on Alpha.
Those roads are quite narrow and have adjacent drainage ditches.
