  1. Yes and no. The 10 rescue dogs I have are chained to a treadmill that charges my car. We keep a dog bowl half full just out of reach until one collapses, then we feed them. If I need a fast charge I'll toss a piece of raw meat in the bowl and place a trapped ferrel cat behind it.

  3. The homeless. As the crowds thin out you see them more and more and then finally that's all you see. Most people with money in their pocket looking for a good night out will soon tire of being harassed by the homeless. Downtown pushes them into Midtown, Midtown pushes back and the cycle is complete. Downtown before rail was even better. Now all rail does is connect people from the Allen Rosen-connected Midtown Terrace to downtown where they can pester everyone for change.
  4. One more thing: Back in 2004 it was easier to park your car for free after work. People that show up for happy hour would stay late into the evening when parking was less complicated.
  5. I'm just counting the days until the new WalMart opens as my first purchase will be a gas generator to keep my Nissan Leaf charged while I'm at work.
  6. I don't drive on the sidewalks, so don't walk in the streets. I'll admit that I've revved my old car a little when driving in that part of town after having some jackass purposely walk out when the light turns green. They know what they're doing, and I've watched them do it to single female drivers.
  7. So Target should be the target because they started it, but instead they target Wal-Mart instead of targeting Target as Target has correctly targeted their target hipster demographic with targeted messaging that deflects them as a target of criticism due to their sleek product design aesthetics.
  8. Great. I can see a Midtown dead horse epidemic in the making when they discover that you actually have to maintain something other than your lifestyle and wardrobe. Of course we wise owls in the Heights will start the Heights Horse Rescue squad (funded by generous donations from our neighborhood Walmart) and relocate these noble beasts to the wooded areas of the Heights. (Not to be confused with the Woodland Heights, 'cause that's not really the Heights per the argyle sweater set) Once they're nursed back to health we can ride them on the rails2trails paths until the inevitable factions emerge pitting bikers, hikers, and horseback riders against one another. All of this because Walmart drove the area to hate and skinheads started raising chickens for their White's Only omelets.
  9. My guess is that the victim purchased his drink and Skittles at a mom and pop not a big box.
  10. Please... Every hipster knows that chicken eggs are soooo 2007! I mean, they're probably doing that in Midtown by now! Every blue blooded Heights resident knows that you should be fighting city hall for the right to raise ducks. Have you not seen the price of organic duck eggs at Central Market? You must not be in the right book of the month discussion group. I suggest you tender your resignation and search for one that's slightly ahead of the curve. Next thing you'll say is that you want to raise pigmy goats...sheesh. (hint, goats out, micro donkeys in)
  11. I'm considering getting PETA involved so that we can effectively cock-block your petition. What is driving this need for eggs in the Heights? How many beta-males does it take to make a quiche?
  12. In this "bed-in" against Wal-mart you can divide the strange bedfellows into two classes. 1. Useful idiots 2. Friends of convenience The useful idiot really has nothing at stake and their primary motivation is to protest something to the point (hopefully) of capitulation. Protesting is their hobby and primary form of social networking. Friends of convenience do have skin in the game, come from opposite viewpoints, and are willing to violate certain personal views or realities based on the fact that the invader is a bit too close to their "backyard". In the case of a conservative it could be "I believe in property rights until Walmart opens up near my Victorian on Yale". For liberals it could be "I support the working man until the place he works at opens up down the street from my Yard of the Month Victorian on Yale". The rest of us just want cheap bulk dog food.
  13. That pretty much sums it up for me. You could also say that it looks like a future rescue dog.
  14. I like Buffalo exchange because I receive much needed validation when the 20-something behind the counter accepts my clothing for trade. It gives me peace of mind that I'm still cool and not a sellout despite the fact that I live in the Heights. I find if I toss in a few talking points I hear on Pacifica I sometimes get more for them.
  15. Good question. I might try the incognito thing. I'll stop by Buffalo Exchange and pick up an ironic t-shirt and a big pair of sunglasses that scream "whatever". We're not paying the nanny to drive our car to Walmart. Her job is to raise our kids to be shameful of their class through thinly-veiled stories of the glories of collectivism and amusing anecdotes and folklore from her homeland's indigenous people. The last time she went to Walmart the house stank of Fabulosa for 6 months, so it's only Target for her.
  16. It's probably a forgone conclusion that any take over offer would be met with stiff resistance from existing property owners.
  17. I can't wait till they open this thing up! Trying to maintain the facade of a BoBo is puting me in the poor house! I overpaid for my house, the city sticks it to me, the wife wants work done, the kids like Ralph Lauren, the dog was $3,000 (but we tell everyone it's a rescue) We just bought his and her Nissan Leafs, that I don't think will make it in Houston summers. So if I can save a few bucks by refilling my empty bottles of Leitz Reisling with Fetzer box wine you know I'm going to! Our fellow gen-x middle-aged lush nights really can't tell anyway, and quite frankly I've got bigger concerns after I overheard them mention "I wonder if they swing?" Uh, no.
  18. Take the train and ride over to Bodegas taco joint. Their nachos have to be responsible for more Lipitor prescriptions than any other eatery in the area.
  19. Rumour has it that Tilman is planning a multiplex across those four adjacent blocks that will rival his downtown aquarium project. Apparantly Greyhound's parent company has been under pressure from the DHS to move. I guess he wants to collect the whole set. Don't know anything about the Houston Club, though it could double as a splash pad of sorts.
  20. It was up for sale a while ago. I think they were asking $240k for it. Power saws and hard hats sound more like tools you use to cut out the load bearing studs.
  21. There is a Midtown Town hall meeting at the Bahai center on 2419 Fannin St from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. This is being put together by the Midtown Management District, local business and Carol Alvarado's office. I'm not sure of the official agenda of the meeting, but it would be safe to assume it would be consistent with the agenda of a town hall meeting. Townhall Meeting info from the Midtown Management District site. http://www.houstonmidtown.com/midtown.cfm?a=cms,c,2,0 Here is a map to the location: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=U...wloc=A&om=1
