  1. Well. I know I am in the minority. But I LOVE cold weather. Good reason why I like Chicago too. I love four distinct seasons. Dallas is the closest big city, of course, we can get to that. Most of my best clothes are for the wintertime lol. I also prefer dry weather over humid weather. I lived in Miami and grew up here in central Texas and I am more comfortable in dry heat than humid heat. I do wish it rained more in central and North Texas.

I'll take Houston weather over DFW weather any day! I think that people from DFW (and Austin, etc.) just like to pick on Houston for some reason. It's probably due to an inferiority complex.

It goes both ways. Houston is no doubt, my favorite city in Texas. But it has it shares of picking on themselves. In the end, who cares, it's all Texas cities anyway and they are all basically the same and they get picked on by the rest of the nation.

Redscare, I remember that Labor day in 2000. It was 113 where I was. I've been in Texas since 1987 and I never experienced anything that hot. As soon as you walked outside, I baked in the sun. Luckily, the windows was cracked. But that didn't make a bit of difference.

  2. commercial 'urban' radio is terrible. same 9 songs 9 times a day. that's 97.9 (dallas and houston), 104.9, 104.3, all of them.

if you listened to these stations you would think there are only 12-15 singles and about 20 artists out at all.

    it's a joke.

wait... this is a B/CS thread... i'm in the wrong place for sure.

True. They are all the same.

If you must listen to t he radio...get sattelite...preferbly sirius

  3. I'm in Northern Virginia now. I ride Metro alot and I love every minute of it. It is very easy to navigate on this system and easy to read. It stops at all the best attractions and it runs frequently and has alot of options. I never been on Bart, but Metro is great. I like light rail alot, but I wish the Texas Metros got on the heavy rail bandwagon more as well but it's just too expensive nowadays.

  4. V-103 left B-CS? When? Now what urban station does that area have? This is similar to what San Antonio was going through in the late 90s and into 2000. Then finally, they got it's urban station 98.1 the beat. Same with Austin. They didn't have anything but 88.7 and they only played it off and on and then they finally got beat 104.3 in 1998.

Waco doesn't have a station either but they get the Dallas Stations really good anyway. Maybe B-CS will have to be listen to the Houston stations from now on. Do they come in good?

I know Killeen, you have FOUR urban stations you can listen to. Austin's 2 stations(hot 93.3 and beat 104.3 and they are basically local) and 92.3 and 106.7.

  5. personally, despite dallas' claim to be the largest, i think atlanta has the brightest future, as far as infill development.

Do they have the brighest future as far as infill development because they have more to infill than Dallas and Houston. Both Dallas and Houston have always been a bit more dense in the city core and a bit outside the city core than Atlanta. Wouldn't we say that Atlanta is catching up to make it seem they have the brightest future?

  6. They would probably be around the same size Gary. I'm only guessing, though. I believe Harris County alone is bigger than Tarrant and Dallas county and Chambers county to the east is not very populated. It's skewed no doubt nor is Waller or Washington county.

Something is really wrong with this list. Does anyone know why the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose metro area is not on this list? The bay area cities are every bit as connected by population, freeways, and buildings as Dallas and Fort Worth are, in fact more so. There are more people in the SF bay area than DFW. I don't know how the NCTCOG defines metropolitan areas but a top ten list of the largest metro areas that does not include the SF bay area can not be very accurate.

Nothing is wrong with that list. If you go by CSA, then the Bay Area and Washington DC-Baltimore both are bigger than DFW. But this isn't about the CSA because they split San Francisco and San Jose up anyway. This is the MSA which is how Philadelphia was fourth.

  7. It doesn't matter that the city lost the title or that it was years ago, a title like that (much like most polluted, murder capital) tends to stick.

I didn't get that from his comment, Gary. What I understood from this was titles like fattest city or polluted or murder capital tends to stick. He could name any strong topic that would stick and make it his point. He wasn't calling Houston a murder capital. That's what I got out of it.

  8. Are the NCTCOG population numbers for DFW being compared to US Census numbers for Philly and other metros? Or, does the NCTCOG also arrive at population figures for other US metros when they make their list?

Probably not. I'm sure every major metro area has something very similar to what DFW has. Whatever Philly has, you can compare that to the NCTCOG. They use just the census to compare to Philly. If you go by the CSA which I believe is 16 counties, then it's just over 6.2 million. But if you go by MSA, it just passed the 6 million mark. Basically, the NCTCOG and US Census are saying the same thing. One just covers one half of the year, and the other study covers the other half of the year but it's easier to believe the NCTCOG over the US Census because they are more familiar with the area. I would believe the same for Houston's as well.

  9. Nope. That's D.C.

In Austin, my only concern with all this development is that the view of the Capitol (spelled with an 'o') from S. Lamar will be obscured. It's one of the things that define that corridor.

If so, ah well... Cest la vie.

I don't think that's the reason for DC either. I think in DC, they can't build their buildings taller then the width of the street. I'm in NOVA now and a DC resident explained that to me a while ago but I forgot the full details. I always thought that anything built in DC could not be taller than the Monument which is 555 feet. But was shocked to hear that wasn't the rule either.

As far as Austin in that picture. I believe 360 is under construction now, right? I can't wait for the Tstacy project to go up as well as the Spring.
