  1. EDIT: This is a little off-topic, but I was invited to the Moonlight Ramble tomorrow night. It sounded like it might be fun, but I don't like that they require that I register in advance and then pay them money so that they can force me to wear a helmet and sign a waiver of liability that allows me to ride on public rights-of-way. It's a bad deal. It's convoluted. I think it's a scam.

I am a ride volunteer, you don't have to pay in advance. Your other complaints, well, you must run a lot of charity events so you are entitled to complain, right?

  2. So, now all of these vehicles are banned from using the Yale St. bridge: http://www.alphaleas...ver6000gvwr.asp

Basically, the bridge has deteriorated to the point where it is minimally functioning. It cannot get any worse than it is now. If it gets any worse, it gets closed until the City fixes it.

Even with this downgrade, it is still not scheduled to be replaced until 2016. So much for those 60 day turnaround priority jobs that you all were fantasizing about. Back to reality. No mention from CM Cohen when the City will be able to complete repairs to get the load capacity back up.

Of course, all of you Walmart/Developer fanboys have no objectivity and will never admit that this is a monsterous failure on the part of the City and State. The City sat around for months with the developer talking about tax goodies for infrastructure upgrade, but didn't think for a second about the Yale St. bridge until opponents pointned it out when the City said that Walmart truck traffic would use Yale St. to access the development. The City could have put bridge repair in the 380 agreement and made the developer pay for things like the utility ROW purchase from the city and road construction that are typically exactions that private developers are required to fund. If the developer did one of those magic 60 day bridge rebuilds, this problem would have been solved. TxDOT also blew it as they should have known that the feeder expansion would increase traffic along the bridge (which was load restricted before the feeder expansion work began) and worked with the City to upgrade the bridge prior to the completion of the feeder. but, instead, we all just make it up as we go along and hope that the bridge will last and that the bridge building fairy will come along with 4 million dollars to build a new bridge in 60 days.

It appears that now you are a supporter of 380 agreements. Glad to see you've come around.

i wish you two would get over yourselves, do it, and move on. this place is getting pretty unbearable.

  3. Um, guys? I have a confession. I live in the Heights and...I don't give a flying fark about the historic ordinance. I am, however, interested in what's going on in the neighborhood, and HAIFers often seem to have the scoop on this. Can every single Heights thread please not turn into a big snark-fest between supporters and opponents of the effing historic ordinance? I know it's a big thing to ask, but nobody has to quit cold-turkey. How about maybe just 1 thread out every 3? Or, do it on the thread actually dedicated to the topic?

Whew. Glad that's off my chest.

sadly this is all this forum has left these days...

  4. If we all acknowledge that you were right all along (I don't remember seeing you until the 380 was a done deal), will you then go complain about something else? I really don't get your point here. You haven't asked us to come protest with you. Parker's re-election is already over. The 380 was signed long ago. What is your point? You already read SilverJK's post. Most of us believe that even a treeless Yale is an improvement over what was there previously.

No matter what the point, at least Leonard keeps to topic and does not fall to one side or the other of the never ending pissing match....the guy also posts what appear to be facts (crazy around here, right)

  5. Yeah, sure. But its another option. J00b wants options. While we're at it, J00b really ought to set up a petition to compel the FAA and TXDoT to accommodate ultralight aircraft like the Mosquito ultralight helicopter as a commute solution. And why not!? It's another option, and very practical compared to METRO.

sweet jesus. hands down you are the most annoying poster on this entire board. sad part is you don't even live in the heights.

  6. Having lived in Dallas, and visited there in December, I agree that the general similarities are there. And, you are correct that both Uptown and Knox-Henderson have been around longer, and are therefore more developed. There is just a different vibe to the crowds that frequent Dallas bars and restaurants versus Houston bars and restaurants, though.

I think because they have been around longer (Dallas) vs. washingtons "newness" it still gets a crowd from the outskirts of town. Once the newness dies down it will be more like Knox-Henderson, at least i hope.

  7. I, too, hope that the Heights (or somewhere close enough that the Heights can rhetorically annex the location) gets a Trader Joe's. Thereafter, I can mockingly congradulate them for being more Woodlands-icious than ever before.

minus that whole 30 miles away from the city part. but, yeah, i get you brah. sweet reference to annexation.

  8. Just something we had happen near our house when a neighbor garage got broken into so figured i would give you a heads up. the burglars took his openers and keys and actually hid them under the house behind one of the "windows" for the pier and beam airway so when they came back easy access!

Our garage is detached also but we have an alarm for the apartment on top as well as the garage which are zones off the main house system. however its been installed that way for some time and the distance to wire them together isn't nearly as big as yours.

  9. Mark make sure if you park a car in the garage that they didn't take an opener (gate if you have one) or garage out of the car. not saying you leave your cars unlocked or leave house keys/openers etc sitting in the car but they are much more likely to try and come back if they have keys and/or an opener and this is something that often goes unnoticed for a few days.

Also something to consider our side garage door and main garage door when opened are set to automatically trigger the main alarm when the alarm is set on any setting. you can probably have yours programmed to do the same.

  10. Looks like it wont be "ruggles" for much longer....not that it was any good but might explain why it was so bad.

The new concepts come as Molzan says he's having the Ruggles name removed from the Ruggles 11th Street Cafe. "I'm real particular about quality," when it comes to licensing use of the Ruggles name, he says.
