  1. The El Cantina Superior is done. Will be interesting to see what happens next...
  2. The Heights restaurateur I know told me his clients have said the same thing. Doing Mexican food in this town is really competitive. There are too many choices in Houston and even close to the Heights for good established Mexican food joints. On a side note. It will be interesting to see what establishments move into the strip center north of Spanish Flowers once Braun redoes it. They have a good track record of turning commercial space around.
  3. A long time Heights restaurateur told me that commercial developments are waiting in the wings for the repaving on north Main and of a recent change of ownership of the strip center on Main. There was also more interesting gossip that I will not post.
  4. That. And that the layout of the place it terrible and is too large overall. I know restaurateurs that know the building well and they won't touch it. Vacancy for that long in the Heights tells you something.
  5. Not Heights, but for those of us in Shady Acres/Timbergrove area The Warehouse Bar and Chill just opened recently. On 11th between Ella and Seamist. Craft beers and full bar, but they need to have more than just one white and red wine. New American bar food. A good addition to the hood'.
  6. So had anyone been to Piatto in the midrise on 11th and Studewood?
  7. Went to good dog a little while ago. I had a good meal. The chili from the chillin' dog is now served on its own in a cup or bowl. The menu can be found on their twitter feed. https://twitter.com/GoodDogHouston There is more than just hot dogs. This is a very good addition to the 'hood.
  8. Edge of the Heights between Durham and Shepherd. An easy getaway.
  9. I heard this last night as well. So he is keeping the original Christians Totem on Washington and I10? My source said the name is being sold along with the businesses.
  10. My sources just roll their eyes regarding this saga. The layout of the building itself which is not optimal for a restaurant. Big sq footage = big rent. Need lots of covers to make it work. The contractual nonsense, etc. Killen was smart to bail. Overhead at his new place will be a better deal.
  11. No. This info came from a Heights restaurateur and a local real estate lawyer. Which reminds me I should have asked last night about the Studewoodish over saturation or potential thereof. The Tex/Mex joint going in at corner on White Oak, now the Yucatan place 4 block away. The midrise on 10th looking for a restaurant tenent, etc. There is already good Mex on Main and few block further on Airline.
  12. Yucatan Taco Stand is going into the old Stella Sola/Bedford building.
  13. Long boards are nothing new. We had those in the 70s. Santa Cruz, Sims, etc. The small wheels was a 90s-00s thing. Dumb kids. Kryptonics made 60, 65, and 70mm wheels in the 70s. Orange were soft, blue medium and green hard.
  14. Had another excellent meal at Bellissimo on Main & 25th tonight. http://bellissimohouston.com/ Waitstaff told me that they are relocating to Cavalcade and Airline behind the Texaco station in late April. The new location will address the parking and table wait issues.
  15. Terrible location. Share the building with Texas Dry Clean, a chiro's office and whatever no name businesses are there. Not co-located with the other businesses on 19th. Pedestrian and bike traffic? I don't think so...
  16. Not anymore. Killen's bailed. Word is that building is going to become a doctors office.
  17. That is correct. I know of a Heights restaurateur that looked at the place. He said it needed major upgrades. Code enforcement has become more stringent. Then there is the lack of parking. If the neighbors got fed up with a busy restaurant they could petition for resident only parking which would leave the investors up the creek without a paddle.
  18. I was told via text by one of the staff at BRC that Liberty Kitchen will be open tonight.
  19. I haven't been in a few weeks so I'll have to see how much things went up by. You can't blame them though because inflation is understated as reported. I speak regularly with a GM of a place on Studewood. Costs are up for meats, veggies, and all the other incidentals for running a place. I'd rather pay the higher price than them cheapen ingredients.
  20. Still gonna be Liberty Kitchen. If there were issues about selling alcohol, they would have never gone ahead with the project.
  21. That sign is meant as a "dig" at a particular neighbor.
  22. This was done on my street on 15 1/2 & Dian in Shady Acres Annex. Feel free to come in and buy and bulldoze a home, just don't think you can put more than one home on a lot. If I had the cash I'd bulldoze my house and start over.
