  1. I just emailed the link to Nancy Sarnoff at the Chron. to see if she wanted to do a story on it since the developers think it's such a benefit.

Do you think she'll run with it, or maybe she'll think it's no a big deal and ignore it, or do you think she will ignore it because she doesn't want to upset the developer?

  2. The way school districts hold bond referendums? Yes. I recall it was part of a larger bond package. With 12 High Schools on the near horizon, the district needed another stadium, an arena, a conference center and auditorium. They could've built these all separately, but they wouldn't be as nice and they'd likely cost more per unit. We may need another one if we continue to grow at this rate, though I think it'll be a long time before anyone takes on anything as big and as nice as the Berry considering the stir it has created.

I disagree. Why did they NOT put it in plain language on the proposal?

I'm asking because after that thing went up I've heard so many people wondering how it got through who weren't aware or the plans for it. Even while construction was just beginning, and i had made calls to the district they claimed the didn't have plans, and calls at that time to the developer even were answered with claims that they did not have plans for it.

I really don't think, just as the district also thought, that it would have passed if they had spelled out just what it was in plain language. Because they didn't.

  3. This topic has been discussed in other threads, but oh well...

I didn't get to vote on the issue, but I do pay the district taxes, and I love the complex. I don't really see the issue that everyone harps on.

What exactly did you think a "educational support facility" was??? And why did you think it would be 90 million dollars??? I mean seriously, when I hear that, I think a place for students to learn in a non-classroom environment, and that is excatly what it is. There is more that goes on at any given football/basketball game than just football/basketball. There are cheerleaders, drillteam, trainers, mascots, marchings bands, etc. all learing and applying knowledge. Can someone that voted please tell me what they thought they were voting for??? I would love to hear it.

ps - don't really like the idea of high school football on national television, but the Barry center is going to look great on ESPN when Cy-Fair v. Cy-Falls goes down, i think that game is in oct. sometime.

I'm just asking......Do you think it would have been approved if they had stated clearly Football and basketball arenas on it?

  4. i wish Katy had built a football stadium along with our "Educational Complex", which is similar to Cy-Fair's (Katy's was complete in 2003, or 2004). Katy does have plans to build a brand new football stadium by Seven Lakes though.

That's really interesting, I have never heard this. Do you know exactly where they are planning it?

  5. When this went to the voters it was billed as the Richard E. Barry Educational Support Facility. "Man we sure could use one of them thangs to help wit are kids edukayshun"

I wonder how many people who voted for it, would have voted against it if it was labled truthfully as a football stadium and basketball arena.

    What do you think?

  6. I didn't know where else to post this so here it goes.

Have you heard any rumors, or maybe they aren't rumors at all, about projects like the Downtown Aquarium and the Kehma Boardwalk, that this owner has really just positioned them as prime locations as future casinos when casino gambling comes to Texas? Sort of like hidden in plain sight.

  7. The entire purpose of this board is for people to find out information on Houston architecture (and surrounding areas). It is obvious that you, cykat, should find something better to do with your time. AS*.

I was just wondering, there's no need to call me names. I really like this forum and get ALOT from it. I did not mean to sound like an AS* and if I did I apologize to the origional poster.

As for Grand Lakes, I dont like you anymore. I usually like what you have to say, but man you need to ease up on the caffine....... and porn? It never fails to amaze me how often people say things on forums that they wouldn't dare say to your face. Like me now, for example.

  8. Anyone ever have to sue a landlord to get their deposit back? I just moved out of my old apartment and the landlord isnt giving me my full deposit back. The deposit was 1650 and he is saying it was 1200. Yes this guy is that big of a moron. I was thinking about getting a lawyer, since texas law says that winner gets paid lawyers fees. I could do it myself but I really dont have the time.

Well, seems to me that it's pretty cut and dry, so to speak. Why don't you look at your lease and see how much it was?

  9. Any updates? Last I saw it was still Active on Market....

4701 Tonawanda-List Price $210,000 - list price raised to $290,000 just before purchase for $290,000.

    4717 Tonawanda-List Price $215,000 - Sold for $276,000 New Loan is $247,000 though. I don't get that.

4721 Waycross looks more traditional with a list price of $219,000 and a buy price of $200,000.

Do you get your profit before the remodel and sell? How do you do it? The banks are okay with that, or do they hold money in escrow for repairs? Because I don't see them selling for much more than 300k, if that.

    Just curious.

  10. unless this is without a doubt your dream home - and you would stick with it through anything - go with your instincts.

i agree with above sentiments - if you have any hesitation, don't bother

Well, I don't really have any reservations about the home, just the builder. After they're all built the same. I thought you all might have some insight about someone buying a new home from a builder who may declare bankruptsy, thought maybe you'd suggest something I may have overlooked, just looking at the worst case scenario.

Also.................... do you have an opinion about this builder? Beazer.

    CyKat

  11. We are considering a brand new home built by Beazer. Do you think it's a wise decision considering the trouble they are in with the Feds? I also had a Realtor tell me about a bankruptcy story that was going around a few weeks back. What could happen to us if we closed and then they went belly-up? Worst case scenario is we have a new home without a warranty. Same as with a resale isn't it? They are discounting almost 60k from a 300k asking price.

Just looking for yalls opinions, we close in a few weeks.

  12. Absolutely. I was in a 4 person family growing up and we had a ~1300 sqft house. That was plenty of space. 2k sqft is MORE than enough space for 4 people. If it isn't then you've got too much crap.

BTW, China has their own version of this. It's a "one child per family rule".

What gives you the right to dictate how much "space" and how much "crap" I have. Maybe someone will come along behind you and say that the litthe 1300 sqft home you are so proud of is too much.

This is America you know, it's still the land of the free and the home of the brave. Remember?

This kind of thinking really chaps my behind. Too much of this crap is going on in D.C.

I could go on and on, but..........

How anyone even has the gall to make a comment like the one above is wayyyyyyyy beyond me.

  13. Consumption, or consumption of crap ;) , fuels the American Economy. This is another case of too much government envolvement in the private sector. Honestly, if I wanted to live in a communist society or answer to Big Brother, I'd live in Cuba. I DID leave The Woodlands after all. >:)

10% or 15% flat tax sounds great to me. Along with getting rid of the death tax.

Is that 10 or 15% on top of the current 7-8% sales tax we now have?

I am all for a flat tax or consumption tax, I get giddy just thinking about it. I don't see it happening though. Talk about upsetting the apple cart. IRS as we know it gone, no more H&R Block commercials, personal savings going thru the roof, dog and cats sleeping together........................

"I still don't think my "crap habit" is anyones business."

  14. That would be me. My bad...

There seems to be a lot of politicians who like to brush the idea of global-warming and the greenhouse effect aside because all they care about is money now.

People need to stop being so nieve, man. Theory or no theory, how people can say that all the pollution us humans cause is helping the earth's environment is like saying Saw III is the feel-good movie of the year, yo. WE affect how polluted our air is. Look at how Houston had the "dirtiest air in America" a few years back. We're still working on it, but you can already see that our cutting down on pollutants can make a difference.

We had the dirtiest air only moments after "W" announced his run for Prez.

  15. I think you'd be surprised at how many would jump at the opportunity not to have to do a bunch of paperwork or hire accountants.

The problem is not so much tied to popularity as it is to the fact that it would wreak havoc upon the accounting industry, and they're a more powerful lobby than you might think...when they want to be.

What do you all think would be a "fair" tax rate and what items would be exempt. And WHO would be exempt. Also...do you think this might create big black or underground market for goods and services?

Excellent idea bu not as simple as you might think.

    CyKat.

"I still don't think my "crap habit" is anyones business."

  16. That's fine. If that becomes law I'll just remove it.

I completely agree, that's why I don't feel that I should have to subsidize your crap habit.

Of course that's horrible. So, who's the cat torturer?

Regarding your interest in my "Crap Habit"- I hear Russia, N. Korea, and even Cuba all have openings for "Senior Socialist Citizen". Although when Hilary gets elected, maybe you could apply w/ her instead.

I think we should tax people who put stupid pictures of cats in their sig.

Actually it's none of your business how much "crap" I have.

Although....................maybe we need to notify the Humane Society or PETA about cats being tortured by persons on this forum. Anonymously, of course.
