  1. Always wondered why Houston is not considered more of a tech city. I believe Houston is one, it's just not a "sexy" one. Energy, international trade/logistics, health services, aerospace and even construction need and are hiring tech workers. It's just not Amazon or Google doing it. If Houston is going to be a true tech city though, then it is going to have to investment much more in its infrastructure and most importantly in higher education. Cities like Austin, Dallas, Boston, and the Bay Area have high levels of research and development coming from their colleges and universities. DFW has a pretty high concentration of research and top trier universities that Houston does not currently have. Outside of the health sciences, Houston needs to improve its higher education offerings.

  2. If they're talking about launching rockets, I don't think being that close to a large population center is a good idea. Note that launch sites are normally out in the countryside (as in Russia) or right next to the ocean (Kennedy) so that when something goes wrong fewer people get hurt.

There was some information about this on the Chron and from the Houston Airport System. Rockets use a vertical launch and vertical launches are restricted at spaceports

  3. The tower is not as tall or bold as many wanted but it adds to our skyline and complements the other towers downtown. Chevron wanted a cost efficient, centrally located, and comfortable office space for its employees and this new tower does that nicely. I was really hoping that they would build the city’s tallest tower but a tower that 75+ stories and 1000+ feet was probably never consider when researching what their new tower would be.

  4. That comment would most likely land someone in trouble in even the most moderen or westernized muslim countries like Turkey and UAE. Here in America we can draw or have yo muhammod jokes because that is our right. In every faith there are some type of rules or laws that people come up with that might seem strange to others, but those laws are not forced on the rest of the world. It is also not meet with such harsh punishment such as death to its followers and definetly not to people of a diffrent religion(at least not in the 21st century anyway). Grow up.

  5. I was upset after reading this article. The Pakistan goverment may investigate the founder of Facebook and others for the Draw Muhammad facebook page. Every other major religion can be depicted in shows like The Simpsons and Southpark or in politcal and religious cartoons, but not Islam. Growing up in America where Free speech is one of the cornerstones of the founding of our country I find it hard to believe that someone could be put to death for a drawing. If someone wants to draw Muhammad in America it is their right and they should not be afraid to do so.

  6. Nigeria is a member of OPEC, largest population on African continent, and Houston having one of the largest Nigerian populations in the counrty seem like a good move to me. Africa is devloping and trying to shead those "flying into war zones" stereotypes.

  7. There's no denying that Rick Perry sucks. However...

Texas schools generate some of the best bang-for-the-buck out of any state.

I have to disagree with your statement. Texas has the 2nd largest public school system in the country; but we rank 47th in percentage of state revenue spent on public education, 49th in teacher pay, 46th in SAT scores, last in residents with a high school diploma, and 41st in graduation rates. We are getting what we pay for and it does not seem like much.

  8. Perry is a hypocrite. He deplores the federal goverment and the stimuls but accepts it to blance the budget. Right now Texas has some of the worst public schooling systems in the nation, but he denies federal money that our schools need. Maybe he will change his tune again for the betterment our schools.

  9. Science did not create life, but proves that there is life and science studies life. Science is not just the theory of evolution or how the planets formed, but also how we think, act, and decipher meaning from the world around us. Do I believe that there is a God that created life? Yes, but I also believe in science. Just because you believe in one does not mean you can not belive in the other. The bible says to study to show yourself approved. In my mind God is telling us to study how he created life by using science as a tool. The truth is what you see as the truth. In our socity the truth is what everone says is true. Truth is really meaning and belief we have formed through experiences and over time. Some might have thought that that block was red but I saw pink and therefore belive it is pink. It does not prove that your worng and does not prove that I am wrong; because you do not see what I see and vise versa. You just have more people agree with you that block is red. The ancient peoples studied and used science just as fervently as we do today. It does not changed the fact that they still believed in their God or gods. They seemed to use science to study life to get closer to them and not further away.

  10. Cant belive they would fire krackernutz. I have not listened to the radio since I graduated though. I got tired off hearing what ever it is they play on the radio now days. 90s Hip-Hop and RnB is about 100 times better than music today. It does not stand a chance with music from the 60's and 70's. Just look at who gets the grammys. Beyonce and other artist have all these grammys (some deserve it) and The Supremes did not even get one. This is just my opinion

  11. Looks like they was just playing. Even the boy looked like he was laughing. I work at a middle school and kids today are grown and done just about lost their mind. There are somedays where I wish someone would beat one of them kids to let them know we are for real. Not where the child is bleeding or broken bones just a little something that would let them know we are not playing.

  12. From conversations I've had, I think we'll see IAH grow, especially to places in Europe and possibly the Middle East.

The documents that both airlines have released don't have the merged operations certificate in effect until 2012, which means that they'll be operating as separate entities at least until that point. I would guess another 3-5 years after that sees the move to a specific city and at that point, whichever of the two make more fiscal sense, they'll have the airline move there.

Hopefully by 2012 they would come to their senses and see that Houston would be the better city to operate their business and to see it grow. I thought IAH had a pretty good number of flights to Europe and the Middle East already. I am not sure how much of that was Continental. How much flights do IAH have to Africa, Australia, and Asia cause seems like Continental was lacking in that dapartment where United does better in all those continents.

  13. The chinese bumped his head on the way into the car. Big deal. They'll get over it. There's 1.5 billion of them.

As far as beating up the kid... he should have been shot on the spot. Had he not decided to become a criminal... he would not have been kicked in the face. Just dont commit crimes and you'll be ok. No mercy for criminals. If you haven't learned by now.... Oh well... Fry them all. Period.

Hope this is a joke. The cops did not need to beat up the 15 year old kid and definitely not shoot him on the spot. From what I have read about this is that the video shows the suspect on his stomach getting beat up by eight officers and then they congratulated each other for what they did.
