  2. Thank you NYY, I agree with you that another EE boundaries discussion is not needed here. We're quite happy here north of Buffalo Bayou in the midst of industrial sites, warehouses, charming bungalows and new town homes. We've gotten to know here, south of I-10, a well diversified group of people: artists, professionals, retirees, and people that grew up here - and they all call this area the EAST END. Back to the original thread question, it will be nice to see a new retail shopping center coming to this site, or a two story Starbucks with a drive-thru.
  3. As someone that works in the Energy sector, I can tell you there are a number of projects placed on hold right now due to oil prices.

  5. We are in the process of xeriscape the yard and so far we have some Agave plants growing. However, it has been difficult to find stones and gravel at an affordable price in Houston. Are they places in East End that offer stones/gravel at good prices?
  6. I lived in Woodland Heights in the late 90's and it was frustrating the lack of retail in the area. Then, I had to drive to Montrose or Galleria area to do my shopping and to run errands. I guess most people that live in the Heights would rather drive, as I did then, then to welcome new retail/commercial development in the area. My advise to the developer is to find a site on Washington Ave. or Near East End where they will be welcomed with open arms.
  7. We moved last year to East Side just about two blocks from this building. Right now this building is empty and every now and then some guys throw parties at this place. We don't complain at all; the parties are an all night event with cool music and light shows. From the house on Cline Street, we can see the tower lit while they play techno music, its fun!!!! BTY the tower is off Clinton Drive near Hirsch.
  8. Went by this morning and took a picture of the sign posted on Jensen and it is a TCEQ Storm Water Program Permit TXR15000 given to Cherry Demolition Company.
  9. Does anybody know what kind of Retail Development is coming to Jensen at Clinton? We sure can use a Kroger's Signature Store!!!

  11. Eastwood (77011 / 77003) and Pine Crest (77020) are affordable alternatives to The Heights if you want to stay close to Downtown. We almost bought a 1920's Bungalow last year on Wilmer Street; but since we are not that handy we changed our minds. I wonder if somebody bought it to restore.   13. I would say that area fits in this "East End" forum; but I am still new to the area. I'd also hope to hear from others about all the new development and historical sites around this area. Thanks.
  14. Would these townhomes have good views of the bayou or are they priced in the high $100's because they will have a panoramic view of all the scrap metal businesses on the north side of Buffalo Bayou?
  15. I think Cottage Grove's location is ideal with easy access to I-10, 610, and 290 but you must spend some time in the area before buying and get to experience how annoying the trains can be. We used to live in Rice Military before we moved to the "Upper East Side" by Clinton and Waco. The only thing we hated about the area was the loud train noise every night enough to wake us all up. There is a reason why you can buy the same townhouse in Cottage Grove - built by the same developer- for a fraction of the cost of those in Rice Military. Here in the East Side, we sleep better and still enjoy proximity to Downtown and the convenience to all major freeways.
  16. We bought a small house on a 5,000 sq ft lot - really a steal - you can't buy such sized lot with a livable place anywhere inside the Loop. We looked for months last year by Eastwood but didn't find anything decent for less than $100K. We love it here!!!
  17. My partner and I just moved to the "Upper East Side" by Clinton and Hirsch Rd - just in the shadows of Downtown. We were attracted to this area for many reasons besides the fact that is still affordable compared to The Heights, Montrose, Midtown, and Rice Military ( where we moved from). I have lived in Houston for over 10 years and I had witnessed how certain neighborhoods like Bellaire, Spring Branch, Montrose, and the Galleria area have been transformed by redevelopment of new townhomes. We just moved to our new house early this year and we are very happy in this neighboorhood, not only in the way is being transformed, but also in the increase of property values. Our house experienced a 60% appraisal value from HCAD from last year!!!!!! If you are looking for affordable housing, whether new construction or a new townhouse, this is the neighborhood to buy right now. I would advise you not to wait long, there are still good deals left and developers are buying lots in this area for new construction. I would recommend you contact a realtor that is familiar with inner city market trends, but you should do your homework and research house values at www.hcad.org for the 77020 zipcode. Good luck in your house buying experiece and hope you decide to move to the Upper East Side.
