  1. What DON'T you know

    Oh so much, PuroAztlan!

    Here's one to decipher...

What book, locally published in 1996, claims that it "encourages you to discover the everyday pleasure of sitting around the table with those you love, experiencing the joy of remembrance and the promise of renewal."

  2. Yes, on #2. Mollie Bailey, who was the owner of one of the smaller circuses that eventually became part of Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey. She is buried in Hollywood Cemetery.

No, on #1, it is not strip clubs. My source is the early-80s Marmac Guide to Houston.

Railroad cossings! Makes sense. It's why I always take Yale on my way to church.

  3. Candeleri's Pizza opened this weekend in the shopping center off 290 and Spring Cypress, near Newk's and McAllisters, and a new pizza place is also coming near the Chipotle on 290 and hwy 6.

    Ugh! First TXU, now Russo's?

Actually, the whole coal-fired pie is great. Mrs. Porchman and I went through some of the grandfathered joints in Greenwich Village last October. We may make the trip when it opens.

  4. Yeah, I thought I had it, but I kept waiting for you to confirm the answer! Then HAIF started doing this thing where all the replies are indexed at the bottom instead of displayed in order and I didn't see this one.

Answer to your second question: Kennedy Trading Post, now La Carafe, 1848?

My question: Name the hotel and suite number where Houston's power brokers would meet back in the day to plot strategies for the city.

    Lamar, 8-F

  5. Re-read the above post very carefully, Porchman has hit it directly on the head with this info. I was gonna tell you something similar. I worked for Mezzaluna in Austin for awhile, very extensive and PRICEY winelist there, and they would have us come for classes in the restaurant, taught by the wine sellers themselves to instruct us HOW to tell the different flavors and smells. I would not fancy myself a sa wine expert by any means, but I do know the rules of thumb, and Porchman has it right.

    T, I'm blushing!

The pricing posts are also good rules of thumb.

Emerite, please report back on what transpires. Have fun and enjoy the date.

  6. After closing and moving in to my new house for like 3 months, i changed the title to my father since he was moving in with me. No, he is still alive, but i want to move now and he will be going with me. That does bring up an interesting question since you brought it up. If my father passed away, how would the title be changed in my name then?

Well, this whole thing poses several other questions. Does you father have a will? Do you have siblings? Is your father looking to qualify for Medicaid (not Medicare)? What is you father's mental state (Does he have his "wits about him")? How much equity is in the house?
