  1. This one blew me away! On the front page of the Villager is an article about them imploding the relatively new 11-story Timberloch Tower. At first I thought maybe it was because Anadarko was going to move forward with it's third tower but alas the site will be prepped for reforestation. *eyes watering*

Not that there's anything architectually spectacular about the building, it's still going to take away from The Woodlands skyline. The building was built in 1998 and apparently has been vacant over a year! I find it hard to believe they couldn't find a tenant to fill the building or to get somebody to buy it. I'm sad.

  2. With another company giving notice of relocating out of downtown (Enterprise Plaza), I doubt Hines erects anything on this block in the near future. However, what I would give to be a fly on the wall in their HQ to see what they have in the works. I'm sure somewhere in their offices they have sketches or renderings of what they want to build on this site.

The existing renders are not accurate... site plan has changed considerably as has design from what was originally posted in this thread. There are two concepts I saw, the more value engineered one is what I described but don't take value engineered the wrong way... the design is still of a very high caliber. As always these things are a work in progress.

When u say "changed considerably," are there still multiple high rises involved or did it get valued down to another 25 story building and a parking garage?

Not excited about a new parking garage going up, but atleast this will have GFR. Also excited to see that there is still hope for One Market Square, I have high hopes one day that this tower will be built. Houston we can't let DFW have all the fun, now can we. ;)

I wouldn't say DFW has had all the fun. We've had *multiple* actual office skyscrapers built here including Main Place and 609 Main. We've got just as many 20 and 30 story buildings under construction or about to begin construction, if not more, than Dallas including Tillman's building, the med center hospital towers, Kirby Collection, Blvd Place, Allen/Gillettte condo tower, Marlow, Marriott Marquis and 3300 main just to name a few off the top of my head. I don't even know the last time Dallas erected a Class A office skyscraper with meaningful height in their downtown core. We've erected two 40+ story building in the last few years with at least one other one, Capitol Tower, coming out of the ground next month.

This tower tho is definitely sexy as hell and absolutely needs to happen. I just hope the likes of 6 Houston Center doesn't take the wind out of this sail.

Does anyone have a link to the latest rendering of this tower and it's height ?  I recall it being pretty big and from these photos, it looks like Theater square tower (or whatever it's official name will be) is definitely getting started.  This is exciting for sure.  Any update on the details would also be great.  Thanks everyone !

It's just a parking garage I think. The original rendering for the proposed building was really spectacular but that's been some years ago now.

  6. Especially being that Capitol Tower is likely to come out of the ground....which will not only add space to an already saturated market but you've got Shell One Towr that's nearly empty, 700 Louisiana that will be half empty, Continental Center One will have a boat load of space when United leaves for 609 Main. 6 Houston Centeris a pipe dream and nothing more

  7. From the Chronicle:

Bank of America reportedly is in talks to move out of its namesake building downtown and into a flashy new tower to be constructed a block away.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based bank is negotiating to become the anchor tenant in Capitol Tower, a 35-story building slated for the former site of the Houston Club building, the Houston Business Journal reported late Friday, citing anonymous sources.

The bank's longtime home, Bank of America Center, is one of downtown's most iconic buildings. The neo-Gothic tower soars 56 stories and its gabled roofline is a familiar feature on the city skyline.

Bank of America, which declined to comment Friday, leases 423,614 square feet in the building, according to Houston-based Enriched Data, a research and data firm.

Bank of America Center, 700 Louisiana, was developed by the Hines real estate firm and designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee. It opened in 1983.

Skanska USA Commercial Development is the developer of Capitol Tower.

After Skanska bought the site and the Houston Club building was demolished, the company built a garage on the southern half of the block and poured the foundation for the tower.

The property is bounded by Capitol, Rusk, Milam and Travis streets.

Skanska has said it would not begin construction on the building until it found a tenant to prelease a significant portion of the space.

Skanska could not be reached. CBRE, the real estate brokerage leasing the building, declined to comment late Friday.

The Gensler architecture firm designed Capitol Tower, a soaring glass and stone building set to include 750,000 square feet and a tunnel-level lobby visible to pedestrians on the streets above it.
