Here are a couple of photos from yesterday afternoon. Glad to see they're making progress on the roof, and the spire has now joined the peak of the frame.

What is the swayback building? (Pic under the bull). Nice photos!
It's the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
I liked that photo tour as well, probably it's because it is one of the lesser seen places in the state. Does look like a nice place to visit, though. Might have to make a stop as I plan on heading west on vacation over the summer.

I don't see any of the towers in these shots. There should be a mid sized one at the bottom right side of this picture.
I was able to pop into the leasing center briefly recently and can fill you all in on a few things.
The leasing center will formally open within 3-4 weeks. They're still finishing up a few things, but from what I've seen thus far, it's quite nice. Not jammed with clutter nor is it closed in. Nice and open, with renderings and the model. Now for a bit of extra info on that model...
Each of the residential towers is in the model, though since no specific design has been picked, they're represented by opaque plastic forms which are in the general shape of what I'm guessing the developers intend the towers to look like. There are a few renderings of a glassy, curvy highrise of about 25-30 floors which are partially visible on some printed material on display and in a video that plays in the center.
I was a bit pressed for time, but I intend on picking up some of the printed materials when the place formally opens.

Since the hotel and Hospital tower are still in the same thread, here are a few photos of the hotel construction from last week.

This one actually topped out two stories taller than the website advertised. It's 13 stories instead of 11.

The beginning? Saw this equipment and a truck from Terracon at the site about an hour ago.

That makes much more sense. Emporis lists it at 316 feet. That's shorter than the listed heights for some of Texas Children's buildings and anyone with vision can see that's not the case.
Actually the heights were changed around the end of last year, at least for the internal version of the site.
The heights listed run down like this, and are based on data from the original blueprints.
-476.55 Ft to the top of the spires
-367.78 Ft to the highest point on the rooftop, Just beneath the spires
-293.78 Ft to the highest occupied floor

Here are several photos taken this morning.

Kinda forgot about this site for a while. It's just now peaking above the treetops and is just on the 10th floor. Here are some photos from this morning.

Before this completely devolves into an argument over sign placement, Urbanerd is right. The signs have been on the perimeter of the site for a while.
One facing La Branch near Lamar and the other (of which there are two photos of on this page), near the corner of Crawford and Dallas. One, at least, was there prior to the hotel announcement several years ago.
At any rate, since April is around the corner, I remain guardedly optimistic that this could get underway in the next few weeks.

Here's a screengrab of one of the renderings I was able to catch on the news this evening...

Thanks for posting all of this info. I was always curious about the place as the sign for "Westchase Mall" remained along Westheimer until just a few years ago and it kinda confused me since it never looked like what most would consider a mall to be.

I wonder if it will be a morning or afternoon show. They may want to compete with Great Day Houston.
My guess is a periodic weekend program, with the personality filing reports daily or every few days.
Basically the shtick Roseann Rogers has done in the past, and to some effect, still does today.
I say weekend since KTRK does air a fair amount of station-produced specials on a pretty much weekly basis these days, specifically the 10:35-11:05P spot on Sunday nights. Then again those are generally substantial programs (Last week: Galveston Recovery from Hurricane Ike), so I don't think it would be in that timeslot, but perhaps earlier.

For a project that's said to be on hold, there's been some amount of activity recently. If you get a look down Mid Lane near the intersection of Westheimer, there are a bunch of concrete columns now up that weren't there within the past few weeks, and there are still a number of people working on the site. The mid-rise that was halted previously, still looks untouched for the moment.

Tang City Mall WAS built in the early/mid 80's. It was a Chinese themed strip mall located on US90 near Post Oak. It never had more than a few stores in it and only lasted a few years. IIRC it was overgrown with weeds in the early 90's. I haven't driven down there in years so I'm not sure what's left of it now. It's probably totally disintegrated.
They demolished it several years ago, though I think the portion that was built was supposed to be the first phase in a larger project that would've included a traditional-type enclosed shopping mall. I recall seeing a rendering from around the same time that showed as much anyway.
What's funny is that I recall seeing it being used in a tourism video circa 1986/87, with scenes of people all over the place. Must've been opening day, another asian mall, or a number of actors hired based on what I remember seeing riding by growing up.

Oh darn and I wanted to set up directly across the street.
Sunday morning is of the few times during any part of the week that Post Oak isn't littered with traffic or people for that matter. I'm kinda curious where viewing areas, if any, would be.
BTW, maybe this should be merged with the thread about the building/potential development: http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...showtopic=16292

This is the rendering on the site of the new developement in The Woodlands. All the towers are currently u/c.
The building on the extreme left is complete while the small, descending retail building in front of it and the building on the extreme right side are being finished up. Neither the condo tower or hotel (taller and shorter structures respectively) are under construction at the moment, though a garage is.

I noticed that the estimates for construction have changed from around $55M in earlier articles to $34.5M in the most recent one. Is that a reasonable figure based on declining prices related to construction or is it just wrong?
