  1. The 24 Hr Fitness in Midtown (Loisiana and Elgin) has opened. I've been a few times now and must admit that is the nicest 24 Hr that I have ever been to. Swimming pool, raquetball court, basketball courts, nice locker room and really nice equipment. I am very impressed. Thank goodness I already had the Super-Sport membership. They also have bicycle parking near the front door for all of us locals that want a good warm up before we get there :)

Go by and check it out.

24 hour fitness is hands down the best gym in midtown.

  2. I was a member of the Meyerland 24hr but my trainer moved to this club so I have followed him. The building is great but I am concerened about the garage.. It looks as though it could fill up real fast (especially when the retail opens). There do not seem to be many parking options. There is a limited amount of street parking and it is metered. Hopefully when I go at 4:30pm it won't be too busy.

i think they are expecting more foot and bike traffic from this location. think about the positive side of lack of parking.

    1. less crowded gym

    2. people more likely to jog or bike to the gym (i know i'm gonna be driving there, but if parking because hassle, then i will bike there instead)

  3. Do you think a scooter to ride around in the Midtown/ Downtown area only? at first it seems really safe, but if you think about it, every block is an intersection. the more intersections = the more dangerous. what do you guys think?

  4. AAAND??

did you sign up, were there people working out already?

i was already a member so i didn't need to sign up. yeah, there were a lot of people there. more employees than members. entrance to the club is on the 3rd floor of the parking garage. really convenient to have in midtown. and is 100 times better than that hole-in-the-wall gym, metamorphosize.

  5. I guess they must have heard you whine, because I was driving by a few nights ago and I think they moved it (if my bleary vision wasn't fooling me). The building is coming along nicely, the still have a good amount of work to do on the bottom floor though.

i was obviously whining for a good reason. hence, the move.

  6. they put the kids playground right up against the windows on the corner spot. i think it looks ugly. this space could have been used to put some treadmills so the runners can watch the traffic at that intersection.

Just noticed on Crosspoint's website that they no longer have Starbucks listed as a tenant at the corner of Louisiana and Elgin. Every slot is available.

    i still see the starbucks-

  7. I picked up a copy of "Houston" magazine last night as I was leaving Spec's. Interesting interview with Liz Lambert, owner of the Hotel San Jose in Austin. In the article it mentions 2 seperate Houston Hotel projects she is involved with, one of which sounds like it might be part of this development. The other, was specifically stated to be a hotel in the Montrose area near the Menil. Both sound pretty cool. I would take Hotel San Jose over a W any day.

I cannot find a website for this magazine - but I was somewhat surprised how interesting some of the articles were - the remainder of it is just silly socialite pictures.

what does that have anything to do with this thread?

  8. I THINK this is the right thread for this, but the block has closed off the tuam street (or whatever it was) and is in the process of fencing off the entire property.

Parking for Escobar, Whiskey Creek, Bond, and other places is going to turn into a nightmare.

i can't wait til they demolish that building. i don't care if its the first strip center ever.
