  1. I never quite understood how people can extend themselves so far. listening to a news report a couple of days ago that even people earning 6 figures are living from week to week made me wonder about a friend of mine in that exact situation.

It just amazes me on how common it is for people to lease their way into a higher life but have almost no equity in their lives.

"The things you own end up owning you."

  2. Credit does not discriminate. You would think that borrowers that can afford such lavish homes would have great credit and reserves. However, I see all too many times borrowers wanting $1 million plus homes that have no money and horrible credit. They want 100%, 6% seller concessions, interest only loans.

Credit doesn't discriminate? I would have to disagree with you. A "credit score", by definition, discriminates between people with different scores. But you're point is well taken. Spreading yourself too thin and spending beyond you're means is the American way!

  3. For the residents that can afford these prices they are going to want balconies to view the new Discovery Green park with. Houston House, 2016 Main and Museum Tower have balconies and I don't think they detract from the overall design.

Amen, I am considering a lease. If I move in, I want to be able to sit on the balcony and watch the City fly by.

I think the design is appropriate. Someone used the adjective "stately". I would agree. As a residential building I prefer clean lines, understated elegance and symmetry.

  4. This seems to be more the norm than the exception. It boggles my mind that developers pour millions into projects, yet cannot find funds to hire a high school graduate to proofread their copy.

In their defense, I was sent a correction email--shortly after posting it here, I might add. Are we being watched?

  5. is this new development going to help Midtown at all? Raise home values, etc...

As a Midtowner, I can tell you that more shopping and eating options in the area will be much appreciated.

With all the residential development in the area, the commercial development is lacking (or lagging). All in good time, I suppose. There is finally a CVS going in down the street. I know the Forum generally detests full blocks being swallowed up by a convenience store, but if you had to drive ten minutes to buy deodorant, you'd be singing a different tune.

  6. Below is from an email. The floor plans look great!

In addition to this we are pleased to also tell you that we have now added

floor plans and an updated list of amenities to our website at www.oneparkplacehouston.com

We are now excepting deposits and leases for move-ins beginning February 2009.

  7. I don't know if anyone has ever been to a Lucky Strike bowling alley, but I was visiting friends in LA this past week and I made a stop by the Lucky Strike in Hollywood. That bowling alley was bad@ss--light years beyond Jillian's.

One drawback was, at least in my opinion, bowling was something like $100 an hour or something completely ridiculous. Of course, this was in LA, so it may not be half as bad here. Anyways, if the Lucky Strike is anything like the one in LA, we should be pretty excited to have one downtown.

  8. I contacted the Fingers Companies about the units in this building. Evidently they are for lease--something I did not know. Whatever the case, they are supposed to send me information on their one and two bedroom models. I will try to post whatever they send me.

  9. Imagine where we would be if the Pavilions was built before the Galleria--all that development might be downtown. C'est lavi. Whatever the case, I am just happy that I will finally be able to go to a mall and not have to deal with all the Galleria madness.

I asked this question a few pages back, and got no replies. However, a few people have touched on it. From looking at the list of tenants, it doesn't look like they are anywhere near full-occupancy. Does any one have any idea at what rate they are at? Not the exact numbers necessarily, but what sort of availability is there for new stores joining the fold?

  10. Requests for stores like these just illustrate Houston's insecurity that so many have. It's as if these chains somehow would make Houston legit.

Instead of wanting something unique we crave chains.

I don't think we want a Niketown or an ESPN Zone for the sake of self-verification, I think it's because they are cool stores and it would be nice to have them downtown.

100th Post ! Now I can get back to work. What building am I now?

  11. Let's not all forget to be totally psyched about a $170 million retail infusion in the middle of downtown Houston! How many of you said it would never even break ground?!?

I think this is a great day for our city, this is the beginning of a lot of progress scheduled or ongoing in our fair city.

I'm certainly excited about the building, and really don't care what other tenants there are as long as its not Radio Shack and Dress Barn.

I just thought that anchor tenant was a little misleading for a Forever 21. Having a book store and a coffee bar next to STCL will be great for the students.
