That is it, thanks.
Please remove the topic--no sense in taking up space.

I was driving by the new county courthouse to check out the progress, and I noticed that at the above intersection there was some construction. That is, the block was fenced off and was being excavated. It is probably another parking garage, but I was just curious.

Plans to build a huge parking garage under the New Park. I am not an engineer, but I think this plan may limit what they intended on building in the park, namely, the lakes. I could be wrong. There is a huge parking garage under Tranquility Park.

Has anyone seen any work being done on this project? I don't think I have.

Can you provide a link to the page with the pictures?

If you guys would like to see what the location where Jalapeno's Restaurant is looks like go to this website: http://maps.a9.com/ Then click on Houston, and finally put in this address in the location box: 2702 Kirby Dr, Houston, TX
You can use this site to look at a lot of streets in many major cites across the USA.
Whoa, being able to look at pictures of the intersection is incredible.

So, is this complex going to be across the street from the Kirby Condos? I thought that they were also at Kirby and Westheimer.
I am guessing one of these buildings is replacing the Jalapenos restaurant and the Shell at the corner. What other corner is getting leveled?

There is also a Quiznos and a Starbucks going in at a previously unused building at West Gray and Milam (I think that is the street). It looks like they are removing the walls at one end and leaving the steel frame so as to have a patio.
It pains me to say this but, finally there is a Starbucks near me. At least, besides the one in the Randalls.

Nice article on a new development in the Up-Town area.

I thought the comment on Houston's good ol' laissez faire property development in lieu of legislative land use restrictions was interesting. It was just one of those things you knew, but hadn't really thought of it that way.

What is the deal with the Pavilion?
I thought they were scheduled to break ground this fall. I drive past the proposed site everyday, and I don't recall seeing any progress.

I wish we had passenger trains like in the northeast and Europe. I would love to be able to just get on a train and take it to Austin for a weekend trip.

My main concern is keeping the homeless from setting up camp and making people feel safe enough to enjoy the bayou without fear of getting mugged.
Sorry if that was insensitive, but I would consider it a realist statement.

Anyone notice that the EDI rendering of the H-Pav is no longer available on the website?
Perhaps their plan is no longer in the running.

"low row to hoe," indeed. I have also been watching their progress, and their current pace is rather slow. I think that they aren't merely widening the bayou, but making the banks suitable for construction of the amenities, which, of course, requires more foundation preparation.
In my personal opinion, the idea of creating real waterfront property in downtown is a breath of fresh air. I always read on these discussions the need for the "critical mass" in downtown. This plan, I think, will create a real desire to live and develop in downtown because of the abundance of recreational facilities it will provide. In addition, with an expanded waterway, the city will finally have distinguishing characteristics instead of just a drainage ditch and skyscrapers.
The master plan reminds me of the San Antonio Riverwalk

I would like to hear a discussion on what everyone thinks about the current plans for resurrecting and utilizing Buffalo Bayou.
If this is old news, I apologize. Perhaps opinions have changed in wake of current construction along the bayou.
The website is rather detailed and provides an abundance of pictures for those of us who are more visual.

Let us not forget that there is a 10-year leasing agreement b/w Central Parking and EDG. I couldn't imagine a firm signing a 10-year lease on a parking garage before they were absolutely sure they were going ahead with construction.
