  1. The 21st Annual SYLVAN RODRIGUEZ SCHOLARSHIP GALA will be held at Intercontinental Hotel/Galleria on Friday 3/30/07.

    http://www.hahmponline.org/

The Purpose of HAHMP is to:

    1. Raise scholarship money to help deserving students pursue a college

degree in journalism and communications careers.

    2. Advance and be an advocate for Hispanics in journalism and communications

    careers.

    3. Encourage and support professional development of members.

    4. To help provide fair and accurate media coverage of the Hispanic

    Community.

I know there is a point in posting this but my guess is Vertigo will not be making it. Is anyone surprised?

  2. and I thought you guys were just joking about ex-convicts arriving there. Hell, no wonder it's so f....d up around there. For Pete's sake!

I also hear that the sanitariums are so overcrowded that the state has no choice but to let some out in public. This is what I was told when living in LA. You see so many deranged people hanging around bus stops & grocery parking lots and beaches just talking to themselves or attacking innocent people. (hope their aren't any on this forum) ...kidding

Apparently Houston has the same problem on top of just homeless bums.

FYI, there is a phsychiatric rehabilitation building on McGregor & 288. The sign is quite blatant nothing to hide. Wonder if that scares area neighbors.

Hmm . . . expecting the worst from folks who are down on their luck, or just plain poor, must make for an uneasy existence.

  3. i'm looking for input from you avid information geeks out there. i'm interested to know what non-fiction books you think everyone should read and what non-fiction book or books changed your world view. i guess, if a fiction book effected your world view, that would be fine too. i.e. ayn rand's the fountainhead (haven't read it yet, but i own it)

Thanks for sharing your list. I love the C.S. Lewis stuff. Here are a few:

The Labyrinth of Solitude - Octavio Paz

The Hungry Spirit - Charles Handy

100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez

On The Road - Jack Kerouac

    King Rat - James Clavell?

A Rumor About The Jews - Bronner

Culture and Organization - Geert Hoffstede

  4. I can't say anything about anyone else... but I know I am gay! Really, really gay! :D

I went back and did an edit but I guess I was too late. I initially thought it was funny but figured someone might take it the wrong way. I am glad you didn't.

  5. I was just assuming when you made the above broad and unsubstantiated statement you had the inside skinny on what everyone chooses. Again, I have never-ever-heard anyone say they choose their sexual orientation except Parrot-and she was vague as to the when and how, casual and nonchalant about what you would think would be a memorable event-and I've been around for more than half a century. You'd think I would have gotten a straight answer by now...

dude, it's time to move on to another topic.

  6. So you are saying that us troublemaking Dallasites know how to push Houstonian buttons? It's easy: Simply post a statistic/opinion that ranks Dallas or DFW ahead of Houston and watch the show.

I would suggest that you shouldn't be so easily manipulated, but I find myself being sucked into the moment as well. Dallasites and Houstonians are very passionate defenders of their cities.

Ok, kiddoes. If I go and brag to my friends about how much more money I make than them or how my house is so much more expensive it just points out the sad obvious fact that I am a shallow, materialistic, little, insecure person who places too much importance on external things. But since I am not that person, I don't do those things. I don't think we are those kinds of people on this forum either. So please, let's get back to meaningful discussions. Houston and Dallas have a lot going for them so let's leave it at that.
