  1. That's also another recurring River Oaks Mod mystery. I've seen the back of it from the house that backs up to it. That house was by Charles Oliver and it's gardens were on the Azalea Trail this year.
  2. No idea. Have wondered that myself.
  3. If you should somehow make your way to this board, Staub's second house for the Elkins family is on Farish Circle, which is an extension of Carnarvon Dr. It's at the very end of the road, but it nowhere near visible from the street. According to city documents, Staub and Rather designed the home in 1947 for James A. and Margaret Wiess Elkins Jr. .
  4. Yes, that's the downside of the project.
  5. I don't know if anyone else went on the Azalea Trail this weekend, but if you went in to Bayou Bend via the Lazy Lane entrance, you may have noticed some major construction on an enormous modern house on the left border of the property. That's a new modern by Alexander Gorlin, and it is similiar in style to Chris Robertson's house for his parents on Main St. http://www.gorlinarchitects.com/index_content.htm Go to "projects" "homes" and "Houston Residence" Thanks to Stephen Fox for the info.
  6. Here's some details of the landscaping, and by association, the house: http://www.asakurarobinson.com/documents/I...ssResidence.pdf

  8. I'd seen this house before, but really noticed it today. It was built by a firm named Bowles & Bowles, which I've never heard of or know anything about, for a patent attorney named James Weiler. Mr. Weiler founded the patent division of Fulbright & Jaworski, and played in a jazz band most of his life. He passed away in December of 2007. I don't know how much longer this house will be around, given the rabid McMansionization of Willowick. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoomanderson/_DSC0011.jpg?t=1201654870
  9. It was designed by Richard Keating, who was head of the Houston office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. He also designed San Felipe Plaza.

  11. This house is currently being restored. I drove by yesterday and it already looks more lively and rich. The exterior walls used to have mildew on them, but it looks like that's been remedied. The new owners are also putting in some landscaping, which a definite improvement over the way the house has been. This house was built by Vale for a family named Hayes, and has many interesting custom touches, as you can see from the photos. Mr. Vale never told me the story on it, so I can't really provide much more information.
  12. It's not for sale. I'm just reposting the old listings because I didn't get to see the photos at full resolution and figured others might want the same.
  13. http://www.har.com/HomeValue/dispSoldDetai...m?MLNUM=6558146 Wild house. One of Vale's more custom designs.
  14. Yeah, they're probably gone. We can't have unique, after all.
  15. http://www.har.com/HomeValue/dispSoldDetai...m?MLNUM=2615181 Found this listing for an old mod of the month. Never got to see the photos, so here it is again.
  16. I like them (some of them) as much as I like mid-century modern, especially the Sea Ranch style, and work influenced by Gwathmey Siegal, Richard Meier and others in that style.
  17. This turned up on Swamplot and Youtube today. They can't break through the Cohen house's foundation!
  18. That's Mark Green's house. I photographed it a long time ago, even before I shot Jason's house. I believe it was fully restored (or at least rennovated). Had alot of personal touches and was really nice on the inside. The light fixture in the entryway is an original feature from the 50's.
  19. Right. That's the Flatow Moore house on Macgregor in Riverside Terrace.
  20. Welcome to HAIF! There are many threads and mentions of the houses in Riverside Terrace (especially the contempo-modern ones) in the Houston Mod section of the board. Many of those houses are in danger of being torn down, though. There are also a few pictures of them (soon to be many more) on Houston Mod's website.
  21. http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y My maps indicate that Wylie Vale designed several houses on East & West Rivercrest. This may be one of them. One was designed for Jimmy Green, the Chevrolet dealership owner.

  23. Current shots: I drove by about two weeks ago and snapped this: http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoo...pg?t=1198025054 This is from Sunday afternoon: http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoo...pg?t=1198025082 Notice that there are new stacks of lumber in the front yard and no sign of a bulldozer? Is this an extreme rennovation or demolition on the cheap?
  24. It's good to know that Carroll Shelby is still going strong.
