I tried running one of the posts through Google translate and the only thing that popped out was links about online gambling.  And there I was hoping they were messages to us from the Dear Leader.

I'm guessing she is referring to Confetti's, which in other incarnations was also Foxhunter, Cowboy and R&R.  It was on West Alabama behind the Galleria.

This is fairly pathetic, but I can still sing the original Q Morning Zoo jingle.  

They were a bit annoying, but at the time the metered ramps were installed I remember reading that they were a cheap and relatively effective way to reduce freeway congesting by keeping more cars on the feeders.  I thought the metered ramps were retired in cases where longer or braided ramps were installed, like along 59.

If you compare the bottom picture to the top you'll notice how it grew an extra floor.

With the Lamar Hotel block they let it sit as surface parking for about 15 years.

Interesting remodeling that was done.  I see the logic in plugging up the original grid facade - it was heaven for pigeons.  As I recall the original renderings for the remodeling showed a large section of the facade ripped out and replaced with larger windows.  In the end they went with the original glazing with just inserts to plug up the grid squares.  Normally I'm not a big fan of remodels, but in this case the original structure was kind of ugly.  Not that the current version is any treasure.  It just sort of made its way up to innocuous.  

The Chronicle article is incorrect in saying that the hotel opened as the Whitehall in 1963.  Before it was the Whitehall it operated as the Hotel America and the Hotel Sonesta.

"Historic riverfront" is odd phrasing, but it leads me to think they are looking at taking advantage of the bayou location.  Perhaps I'm reading too much into it..

That's funny.  The Daewoo names cracked me up for some reason.  Lanos, Leganza and Nubira.  "Nubira" was odd enough that it was fun to say.

They lead off with the Achieva,  I always hated the Acura Vigor.

There was an Oriental Laundry and Cleaners incorporated in 1960, so the timing is right.  I can see where they probably thought that the roof design was vaguely Asian, so Mollusk's guess seems very reasonable.  Remember there was that tiki thing going on at the time.

This is going to tie in downtown so nicely! I just wish it was going to be ready before the Super Bowl!

I'm happy if it is still under construction.  That way visitors can see that Houston hasn't totally shriveled up and died.
