  1. My family and I took the Red Line from Northline Transit Center/HCC to the Museum district and back this last Saturday. There wasn't a lot of people getting on/off heading south at 10am until Preston station, then it really picked up (passenger wise). On the way back it was beyond standing room only (about 12pm) until about Cavalcade, then it started to slightly thin out until we got back to the Northline Transit Center/HCC. They were only running single cars, but they could have easily had two-cars to accommodate all of the people. Obviously it is too early to tell if this is going to be typical for a Saturday or not.

  2. My concern is that there seems to be a lot of focus/pressure on Dallas wanting/getting 3 stops; downtown Ft. Worth, DFW and downtown Dallas. Whereas I have only seen mention of Houston only getting one stop way out in the suburbs...

  3. Air New Zealand does not have the plane to make it here non stop. It may have to refuel in LAX.

They have two types of planes (772ER and 77W), soon to be joined by a third (787-9), that can make the journey non-stop:

  4. No I think they own 20% of Copa still. OMG look at their stock!

On May 6, 1998, Copa Holdings, the holding company for Copa and related companies was incorporated as a sociedad anónima under the laws of Panama to facilitate the sale by CIASA of a 49% stake in Copa Holdings to Continental. In connection with Continental's investment, we entered into an extensive alliance agreement with Continental providing for code-sharing, joint marketing, technical exchanges and other cooperative initiatives between the airlines. At the time of our initial public offering in December 2005, Continental reduced its ownership of our total capital stock from 49% to approximately 27.3%. In a follow-on offering in June 2006, Continental further reduced its ownership of our total capital stock from 27.3% to 10.0%. In May 2008, Continental sold its remaining shares in the public market

Back to the topic from the OP, it would be nice to see NZ (Air New Zealand) flying here. However, depending on arrival/departure times, there might be a lack of available gate space at Terminal D.

  5. How do they get to Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Xiamen, Wuhan, Nanjing, Beijing, and so on.

By getting off one plane and getting on another. Those locations are easily accessible through Hong Kong.

  6. American Airlines just announced reduced flights from JFK to LHR and will stat flying from DFW to PVG and HKG.  It will loose money because they do not have a partner in China.  Seems stupid and does not make sense.  I wish United did have that flight from IAH to AKL but with a population on 4 million people in New Zealand it does not make sense.  Houston is larger the whole country.  There will be new cities from IAH when they get more 787s next year.

CX and KA are part of oneworld. China, therefore, is covered just fine. New Zealand was/is about connecting 2 large Star Alliance hubs.

  7. A crown jewel for the Parking District!

You know, I think the city should start promoting the Parking District with bogus statistics, the way they used to for the Theater District. Putting out publicity like "Houston's Parking District has more parking spaces in a concentrated downtown area than any other parking district in the US."

I say take it a step further:

    http://www.automatedroboticparking.com/more-common-overseas-automated-parking-garages-are-popping-up-in-the-us/

It could be a part of the new Nau Tourism Center or part of the double-decker bus tour too. "Come see Houston's first automatic parking garage." Add in some cheesy "City of Tomorrow" slogan and bam...immediate tourist attraction.

  8. on a more serious proposal for this thread...

wasnt super neighborhood 22 proposing to trench the Hempstead rail line going through west Houston? if so, how feasible would it be to widen the trench for one more set of tracks for commuter/heavy rail going from the

Burnett Station to a new transit station north of the uptown light rail line (one would imagine they would extend the uptown plan north to connect into the new commuter/heavy rail line). i found this rendering that shows the (Hempstead?) rail line im speaking of, and how it could link into the uptown rail line. interesting that theyve already considered this (i guess when they were planning the hempstead commuter line, which i assume never materialized since i havent heard of it in a while? i think the rail owners said the line was too busy for them to share it with commuter rail or something, so this idea of adding another line through the trench in west houston would solve all of that).

This is SN22's transportation presentation from 2010. The trenching concept starts on page 14.

  9. I hope they will add more gates later.  No first class, no lounge and old planes will no work for me.  Low fares?  We shall see, WN is not a low fare airline anymore.  When will they get 787, 777, 767, 757?

Why would they order (mostly) wide-body planes? And for reference, their average fleet age is lower than that of UA. (11 vs. 13.5). http://swamedia.com/channels/Corporate-Fact-Sheet/pages/corporate-fact-sheet and http://aerotransport.org/php/go.php?query=operator&qstring=United+Airlines&where=91636&luck=
