  1. If all that's true (unlikely, but hey, what are internet forums for :) ), then the next few years could be explosive for Bryan.
Well..... Bryan is not there yet, but I feel it's heading in the right direction. Even though a lot of people feel Wal * Mart is not "their" kind of store Leonard Rd./ 2818 is a great location for residents on the west side of Bryan and maybe it could start a snowball effect for the rest of future 2818 devolvement.
  2. When I went to Rayburn way back when, It wasnt much better than SFA. The quality and student body of Rayburn has gone way down hill since the early 90's. At this point, there isnt much difference between the two. Excluding physical age and location.

When I left Jane Long and attended Bryan High, I noticed that the Rayburn kids were pretty smart. I don't think Rayburn has change that much, but SFA and Long has. They were both bad in the 90's and now are a little better.

DALLAS -- Terrell Owens' publicist is vehemently dening a report that the Cowboys receiver tried to commit suicide Tuesday night.

Lt. Rick Watson, a Dallas police spokesman, said at a media briefing Wednesday morning that "a medical situation" had occurred and that there is no investigation.

He declined to answer questions or to verify the accuracy of the police report, although he did pass out heavily redacted copies. "He will be leaving the hospital today," Etheredge said. "He is fine."

That Owens was groggy and lethargic was the reason Etheredge called 911 in the first place.

Etheredge said Owens was in pain stemming from the fractured right hand, suffered against Washington two weeks ago.

He underwent surgery to have a plate and three pins placed in the hand last Monday.

Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said at the time that Owens was having a bad reaction to the pain medication.

Etheredge said Owens experienced more pain and discomfort on Tuesday.

He took some pain pills and did some "microcurrent" treatment.

She said he also took some supplements and "it kicked in a reaction."

"When I went to grab him, he was out of it," Etheredge said. "That

  4. According to a Dallas Police report obtained by news 8, Dallas Cowboys star receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide Tuesday night. The report also says that Owens was depressed and reportedly took prescription pain pills. A woman companion observed him putting two pills in his mouth. The woman says the prescription of 40 pills was filled on September 18th and until yesterday he'd taken only five pills. According to the police report, Owens was asked if he'd taken the rest of the prescription. Owens said yes. According to the report, police also asked if he was trying to harm himself. Owens answered yes. Terrell Owens was treated at Baylor University Medical Center
Now the reports are a little shaky but this is very sad, like him or not he is a living person and he (if true) needs help.
  5. Ladies and Gentleman Boys and Girls Summer is gone.... well at least for another year. After 3 months of that 100 degree sun with hot humid sticky muggy air, the best part about fall is when you wake up in the morning step outside and feel that cool Northeast wind hit you and it's about 67 and when you look up it's no clouds and a blue sky. That's why I love Texas weather in San Diego its perfectly all year around and you cant really appreciate something's that's always there but here after breath taking heat in the summer, its always a beautiful thing when you feel that first cool breeze of fall. B) Enjoy it because I know I'm going to try B)

  6. Whether that's a bad thing or not, I'll leave that for the people who read the story to decide.
I like that after Nancy Dickey turned down the first proposed site offer by Bryan, that the city put another presentation together that was heard by the system regents. Now, who know's what the main reason why the regents postponed public talks after hearing Bryan proposal, but it had to be a very intriguing location that the regents decided to think about (if they postponed because of Bryan proposal). Looking around the city I wonder what was the Bryan location they proposed that caused possible some interest from the regents, maybe somewhere that is far away from a "economically depressed neighborhood'' (of course) my guess is maybe out in the Copperfield area, good location nice school and neighborhood and it's a growing and thriving community.
  7. I think it's sort of like UT, A&M and Texas Tech. UT considers OU to be their biggest rival. A&M considers UT to be their biggest rival. Texas Tech Considers A&M to be their biggest rival... It's sort of the same thing between the large cities in Texas. Houston thinks Dallas is their biggest rival. Dallas thinks FW is their biggest rival. And San Antonio thinks Houston is their biggest rival.
Wow what about Baylor? We can't forget about good o'l baylor.
  8. Lastly, I have a co-worker who has an ear on the inside at the city of Bryan. From what she told me the "big box" development at Briarcrest & Hwy 6 is a Super Target. The smaller box would be Old Navy. Supposedly they've already said that if Target moves there to expand they'll do the same as they're both maxed out at their current locations and Old Navy realizes Target's the draw for the current center. Both CS locations would then close. Think of the coup for the city of Bryan to take both Target and Old Navy from College Station. When was the last time something like that happened? I'm hoping that if this is the case those two stores will be the start of something huge for Bryan.
If this is true than I think it's a great addition for Bryan but I feel that before we start building out on Hwy 6 and Earl Rudder we should first try and do something with the empty locations on Tex Ave. in Bryan just north of Villa Maria where the old H.E.B , Krogers and even the Albersons buildings are sitting. That section of Tex. Ave is real depressing and empty, first you have that old A&M off campus dorm "THE FORUM" which for a while has been vacant and you have an old converted Sub-Way that was turned into a Hair/Nails shop (which is the ugliest building I ever seen). I wonder when Bryan will start to redevelop that area just like they did with the Tejas Center.
  9. This is something that should have been done a long time ago. It looks like the current school board finally cares more about students than football...this is a new thing for Bryan ISD.

Trust me wait till redistricting comes up, that's going to be interesting to watch which students go to Bryan or Rudder High. Right now it might be all calm and quiet but when Rudder High opens its doors and start playing football in the future and just say they start off with a good record you will see then people/coaches from Bryan High saying they got the bad end of the talent pool, but right now it's good to see another High School opening its long overdue

  10. We all love S.A. I am most certain or atleast like it, but this is a Houston forum and of course we want it to go to Houston or surrounding areas.

    In this case surrounding areas.

I understand that I'm about 90 miles to the North West of Houston and I would love it to be nearby but I'm talking about something to a larger effect benefiting not only Houston but Texas
  11. Why when/if Texas get into the legalize gambling organization everyone is talking about locating the casinos near coastal cities? I feel a casino in San Antonio will be better than Galveston, I would put Corpus ahead of Galveston for possible location. I understand Galveston is closer to the 4th biggest city in the nation but a casino in S. A would be better because S. A is a better tourist town than Galveston I don't know the numbers but I wonder who get more tourist S. A or Galveston.

Wow, nobody got murdered in Missouri City that year. **drops jaw in shock** That's probably not the case the past year and this -- could be at least one killing.

You can't really get a feel of a city off statistics. Some times statistics are over rated, from the most violent cities in America list Gary Indiana is worst than New York or Houston or Atlanta.
  13. County to preview Briarcrest proposal

    By APRIL AVISON

    Eagle Staff Writer

Brazos County commissioners will meet Wednesday with developers to discuss a proposal for a mixed-use project at the corner of Earl Rudder Freeway and Briarcrest Drive.

A proposed mixed-use project in a 254-acre field on Briarcrest Drive near Texas 6 between Garilyn Shelton Mazda-BMW and the Brazos Center in Bryan will be discussed when developers meet with Bryan and Brazos County officials Wednesday.

Tax increment financing, also known as TIF, allows the city and county to help fund development with a portion of property taxes collected within a particular zone and then use future tax revenues in that region to repay the debt.

Lauth Construction, which has offices in Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Orlando, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C., is proposing to develop about 250 acres at Earl Rudder Freeway and Briarcrest.

Aaron Hurt of Lauth Construction said Tuesday from his Indiana office that the company has a site plan but is not ready to release the names of the shops, hotels and restaurants included in the development.

"I really can't get into any specifics," he said, noting that more information will be announced during Wednesday's gathering with the commissioners court. "This meeting will be an introductory-type meeting. We're trying to come in as good neighbors and get some feedback."

The developer recently entered a contract with landowner Jack Lester, Hurt confirmed. The majority of the land, which extends between Briarcrest and University drives, is zoned for agricultural use.

Bryan Business Council President Mitch Morehead said in a meeting with The Eagle in March that his organization, which acts as the city's economic development arm, was seeking developers to create a "lifestyle center" on the east side of the freeway. The land would be a prime spot for retail, hotel and office space, restaurants and upscale townhomes, Morehead said at the time.

"Like we've always said, the development we've conceived would lend itself to a TIF," Morehead said.

Bryan's Dunn said the developer has not indicated what would anchor the development.

    MEETING

The Brazos County Commissioners Court will meet in a workshop session at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bryan Council Chambers, 300 S. Texas Ave.

Well, lets hope this "proposed" project is something Bryan residents and also College Station,( Bryan mostly) can be proud of. This particular site where the land is "proposed" is one of many on both sides of Earl Rudder that is due for development. Please no more dollar stores, hopefully something that's real urban and will spark attracting looking development to Bryan.
