  2. I redid the floors, all new SS kitchen appliances, some hardware (door knobs, mirrors, some lighting etc), tore out a bad closet and rebuilt it, had the outside planters redone, and all new paint. I reseated the toilets since removing the tile in the bathrooms. The cabinetry is original as well as faucets and shower.

The people in 4004 are great. I too was torn between new construction and a place with charm like this and obviously came to like the neighborhood and character over the first time owner feel.

  3. I personally dont think I know anyone that would voluntarily move to Vegas. I think it was a poor choice to make the point.

Anyway, I am all for improving Houston's image abroad but I'm still not in it for trying to bring in the crowds. I'd just like to talk to my relatives in New York and California and not have to defend my home city everytime. Trying to get family out here for my wedding was murder. (Didnt help that it was in May.)

  4. Its cool - .

The guys at Romanos can be pretty rude too.  I am cool with it since most of the time it is actually entertaining.  I once oredered a pizza with light sauce.  When I picked it up I noticed it was swimming in sauce.  I told the guy I ordered light sauce,  he argued and said I asked for heavy sauce.  We bickered for awhile until his partner came out and screamed at him to make me a new pizza.  The guy winked at me and they ended up giving me the pizza for free.    That is only time they have messed up an order an I eat there 1-2 times a week.

    Exactly.

I swear they'de lean forward and smack ya in the head if you took too long to order. They used to give my buddy hell all the time for showing up each day right about munchie time. Ah, fond memories.

  5. I personally never cared for Star. Probably been about a dozen times over the past 7 years and it never impressed me.

Antonio's is pretty good for the traditional thin crust. I'd rate it second after Romano's.... but I still havent tried alot of these other places you guys are mentioning.

The pizza served by the slice at Costco's isn't too bad either.

  6. My favorite Thai food in Houston is Thai Choice at Westheimer and Wilcrest, just outside the Beltway, SW corner. It's in a strip mall behind what used to be a Houston's (I forget the new name).

Try the Panang (Chicken, Tofu, or whatever). Their soups are wonderful. The Sweet Basil dish will also keep you coming back. Many of us oil patch people out on the west side are very loyal to this place.

  7. Willo- Good to meet you at the open house. Me and the wife went and looked at your place afterwards and absolutely love what youve done with it. Props to you.

I like the Cliffwood house but even with the new reduced asking price it seems a little stiff.

  8. Well, life throws ya twisties. I ended up buying the place, fixing it up a bunch and then never moving in. I bought it in April, had floors torn up and the concrete stained, moved all my stuff in, went and got married, moved all my stuff out and into her bigger condo in uptown. And I never slept one wink in Montrose. So I put it on the market to sell or lease. Whichever works out. I'm in a lose/lose money situation either way.
