Good to see no town from Texas among the 10 most miserable ones.
I'm surprised to see some of them in California/Florida being more miserable than New Orleans post Katrina!
Nothing against Detroit, but I would imagine it topping the list!

Does it takes more than 3 years to find the "probable source"? Oh well, with the things you get to smell around it might be the case.
On another topic, did you guys hear the conversation of the pilot before crashing into the Hudson.... Men, talk about nerves of steel!!

I own a Jackass. Please get off of it.

It has been a busy week for crime in the west side of town. Everybody look after your neighbors and keep your eyes open!

I took some photos of the water tower including this one, which I asked editor to add to the regional icons available for selection in our HAIF profiles.
Looks great! Thanks Tim, Wendy & Ed!

Ok, so they've broke ground on construction at the northwest corner of the intersection of 518 and Half Moon Bay. Based on the map Chamo found, this should be the new elementary school, right?
You're correct. I guess with all the growth in ST makes sense to have another school closer to 518 in the next couple of years.
Did you see the work on the "Kirby Commons" area that has been going on for a couple of weeks. Looking at the map again, I see two streets, Kirby Commons Drive and Broadway Bend Drive. I think they are already working on those. There is also a sign of a Shadow Creek Square/Village that has been up for a while so I think they will be doing some commercial work on the NW corner of Kirby@518 soon.

.....and they are building a huge liquor warehouse at BW8 and Kirby.....
Finally work started on this "8,000sq ft Liquor warehouse" or whatever they are building in that location.
There is also some activity in the southeast corner of BW8 & 288.... I had heard somewhere about a Holiday Inn express, don't know if that is what they are building there. With Obama's head making his arrival to Pearland's Presidential park before President's Day, good idea more Hotels are coming to the area for the opening of the park late 2009.

The Pearl Dynasty (Chinese) restaurant is now open. It sits next to HEB.
We tried it. The decor is nice and it was clean, but the food is not that great - especially for someone like me who has been trained (by Wendy) to understand what real Chinese food tastes like.
Still, I hope Pearl does thrive.
Tried it tonight..... Big menu selection; Wonton Soup and Egg Rolls were fantastic; main dishes were just Ok. I will probably stick with Pei Wei once they open.

I've heard a Sports Bar is coming close to Olives & Escalante's. Anybody has any info?

Sedona Lakes is in Manvel, not Alvin.
You're right, my bad. I had Alvin ISD on my mind.
I always liked Rodeo Palms..... I think the many changes on plans and slow sales on their "Upscale" area might have hurt a bit, but last time I was there right after Ike, things were looking better. I know for a fact that Meritage was being very aggressive about sales and there are very good deals.
In terms of all the new possible construction, I think the market exists, and probably will hurt a little ST, SCR, Rodeo Palms & Southfork, but in the long run, it'll be OK. Traffic will be a nightmare on 288, let's just hope it's expansion starts sooner than later.

600 acres in Manvel. They are working on the entrance and doing some work on the roads. I understand that my builder Coventry Homes will be there too on phase I.
I also found the following interesting new plan for the area including..... Mustang Creek, Southpointe Crossing, Shadow Creek States.

How did you find that?

Just passed by the site and its getting close to being clear. That's a huge chunk of land. What do yall envision being there? I see an extremely upscale midrise community right there. Makes sense.
Three years later..... http://crosstorian.com/southpointe
Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, first time I hear about it.

I have a question and sorry to go a little off topic. For regular people buying a regular home, is it worth to have a title attorney?
Getting back on topic, nothing says more Family Business than getting your 5th grader to sketch your company Spam advertising.

Here's the progress reports from the city on the water tank, and the water treatment plant next to it. The report was dated Dec. 01, 2008.
They were painting the top area last Sunday..... I will try to snap some pictures and try to get that Pearland Haifer simbol that we lack.

Question: What is this "Kirby Commons" at the NW corner of Kirby and 518? The color-code makes me think it is multi-family housing. Lord, I hope not. But then again, why should the south edge of SCR be any different from the north edge? (That was my biting sarcasm).
That track is all commercial. They came with the name Kirby Commons a couple of years ago but I don't think they have any firm plans yet. With the Lowe's coming accross the street and HEB so close, it'd be interesting to see what thype of Anchor store they could score. How about a nice Lifetime Fittness like the one in Cinco Ranch or Sugar Land, surrounded by good few restaurants, a Spec's - law permitting (By the way the one on Pearland Parkway is coming along) and of course a Golf Galaxy.

According to the article, the new development will be built along the intersection of 288/518, so I believe they're referring to the open space running alongside 288S before the 518 exit (the land neighboring Memorial Hermann).
Glad to see that Kelsey-Seybold will be expanding; its Silverlake clinic is simply too small for such a large community. The developer also mentions his interest in selling the land to "multifamily" developers, which worries me quite a bit...
EDIT:
Map & site plan for the development discussed in the article, courtesy of Rajuncajun (thanks!):
You called it njvisitor, they updated their site and show all the MF developments on SCR. One of the large tracks of the reserve calls for a third apartment complex on business dr. I feel sorry for the homeowners which backyards go against it, but I guess is a risk they took when building on those lots.

What's going on guys,
So here's what we've been working diligently on.. Any day now!
Great job! I will be visiting for sure.... I am a regular visitor to the area and have found myself many times around 2-4a.m. looking for a place to eat.

$815 to be exact. Ike has a small part to do with the increase; SCR has 4 villages; In mine IKE extra costs came to around $20-$25k.
Main factor for the steep increase is maintenance of those lakes, pools & recreation centrs, etc. HOA dues have doubled in the last 4 years.... One would imagine that more houses would mean same or smaller dues, but as explained to me by the developer, at the end of each year they are still putting money out of their pockets to cover deficits. Hopefully the $815 will stay for a while or even decrease.
FYI....I also found out that all the clearing to the school site on 518 @ Half Moon Bay is nothing more than to get rid of a lot of the soil they excavated when expanding 518. That school is still years to come to live.
