  1. Im not quite sure what the people at calvin klein meant by that saying. Highland Park Village was very popular during the 80s, it was the place to be in Dallas for fashion.Prada likes to open stores in an outdoor antimall setting, such as Highland Park village or Rodeo Drive.Calvin Klein is aiming for the more international customer in area were there is lots of wealthy residents, mixed with a huge amount of wealthy travelers and tourists.

  2. The Prada store has been closed now for about 2 years. There was an article in the DBJ a few months ago about the closing of the Calvin Klein store this year. The folks at Calvin Klein says that the village and the shopper is not the same as it was in the 80s when the Calvin Klein opened there in Dallas. Highland Park Village is still a bustling little shopping center, that is where Chanel,Jimmy Choo,Ralph Lauren and Hermes is located the place has lots of old charm.

Hermes will opening a store in the new Boulevard place when it is built; they have a large busy store here in Houston. They did a trunk show last year at the home of Courtney Lanier Sarofim to promote their new clothing line. The designers are always impressed by they way the women are dressed here in Houston. Carolina Herrera,Andrew Gn, and editors from Vogue have all made statements about the class of high society here in town.

  3. Some of the barbie do seem kinda off

Here is one that would be true

    aka socialite barbie

River Oaks barbie: this is the jet setter barbie available only by invitation. She

comes complete with a famous hairstylist named Ceron,a Bentley, and a mansion available in Georgian,Colonial,Tudor or your very own Versailles replica.A slightly older Ken is sold with a Gulfstream. Comes with the Chanel 05 collection straight from Paris. Summer Villa in southern France, vintage estate jewelry, personal shopper from Neimans, and well known divorve attorney all sold seperately.

  4. The Dallas Business Journal just stated today that the Calvin Klein collection store in Highland Park Village will be closing. The Neimans in Houston with the red escalaters, the new gift galleries, and the huge grand entry is my fav Neimans by far. I also enjoy the mens collection at the Louis Vuitton store. I can see the Memorial area becoming much more posh and have a greater selection as far as retail stores are concerned. It is great that most everything is located in The Galleria and the new development at Boulvard Place. Hermes which is located in the old pavillion stated that they will be apart of the new Wolfe development.

Houston has more of the famous jet-setting socialites such as Lynn Wyatt,Becca Cason Thrash, and Courtney Lanier Sarofim. Dallas also has some not quite as famous ones such as Angie Barrett who quite a while back once stold more than 500,000 dollars worth of clothes from neimans over 5 months and sold them in numerous garage sales in Highland Park. The wealthy consumer in Texas, especially Houston doesnt borrow or rent, they buy the clothes and jewels they want. Money loves to flaunt itself especially in Houston.

Also look how far apart Houston and Dallas are apart from each other, only four or 3 and half hours. That alone tells you how well these retail markets perform.

  5. Dallas has an area that is like Harwin, it is located on Harry Hines blvd. It is not as large as Harwin. Dallas and Houston are the luxury markets of Texas. Both cities have great shopping. Dallas just seems to be scattered with its shopping. Houston really has a central area focused around the Galleria and around Westheimer and Kirby. Both cities tout unique posh boutiqes. Highland Village in Houston has famous stores such as Tootsies, Billy Reid which is also located in the Northpark Center in Dallas, and Donald J. Pliner which is the only store located in Texas.

Shopping is a sport in both cities, The recent article in W about the super rich in Houston is really good PR for the city as far as future designer store openings in the city. Dallas has the most Neimans and Houston has the largest. Wolfe's new center on post oak will have some new stores in it. I live in northeast Texas and when I want to go spend money, I will go to Houston just because I enjoy shopping there. When I need something quick or a friend needs to go get something we will go to Dallas to either Highland Park Village or Northpark. Northpark is doing a major expansion and it will again be the queen of dallas shopping. The Galleria in Houston just has an exciting energy about, no other mall in Texas has that many luxury stores located in one location.

Houston has an Ann Fontaine as well as a mini flagship Dior.

Designers are now realizing the buying power of Texas, and you can see that by all the openings of stores especially in the Galleria.

  6. Houston has some of the if not the richest neighborhoods in the south. I have some friends from San Francisco that visited and were amazed by the homes in Memorial and River Oaks especially. You know you have a major affluent community when so many newspapers and magazines refer to it when they are talking about Lynn Wyatt or Becca Cason Thrash. River Oaks can easily stake claim to being the Beverly Hills of the south. Whenever I mention The Woodlands in Longview where I live people always talk about how nice or how they have heard how spectacular it is.Tanglewood is where the Bush's live, they live in a small gated community.

  7. I know someone who works at the Carolina Herrera store in the Galleria, and he told me that Barney's was talking with Simon and wants a store in Texas in both Dallas and Houston. Houston may get the Barney's CO-OP which is a smaller but more hip version of Barneys. Dallas might be getting the regular Barneys New York, which use to be in the Northpark Center as well as The Galleria in Houston.

Miami currently has the CO-OP store.

  8. I visit both cities frequently, and I live closer to Dallas. Dallas has a very nice feel on the northside of Downtown espcially Oak Lawn, Preston,Northwest hwy, and North Central. Parts of it seem run down like Harry Hines and around Love Field and Garland. Houston is not as planned Dallas, but has just as many nice areas. They both are the same to me, just different enviroments and zoning procedures. Houston has areas such as Uptown and Downtown that has a more modern busier feel to me. The arches and the density of the retail and office space is very sureal and its evolving to something greater with all the renovations. As far millionaires; Houston has more millionaires while Dallas has more billionaires. Both cities have very posh older established communities. Both skylines had there boom in the 70s and 80s. The Rice and Musuem district area is my fav place to visit and future home.

  9. WOW!

I knew I could get a response from all of you, thanx for all the great tips.

Longview tends to favor Dallas more than Houston since it is closer, but Houston

just excites me alot more. I remember when I was little my aunt and mom would

take me to Neimans at the galleria and buy me some toys while they bought the lastest gucci and louis vuitton back in the 80s. We are going to see the Ballet in Dec and a Rockets game. Next weekend Ill be in town, Does anyone know anything about Sambuca's or 17 at Sam Houston? I have family that lives in Clear Lake so Im down here any chance I get. Im also taking them to River Oaks I have a couple of friends that live on Chevy Chase. What is the best Mexican restaurant i n Houston? , Ive recieved so many opinions, I want something that is aunthentic and has a great atmosphere.

  10. Im going to Houston in about 2 weeks to take one of my friends and a few other

people out for her b-day. Im from Longview,TX which is in northeast TX, Im

come to Houston when ever I have a the chance. What restaurant would you

take someone to especially if they never really been to Houston. Its going to be

on a Sat night, I was thinking about somewhere downtown since its one the

best places to be on a sat night in Houston. Where should I take them?
