  1. Not sure if this is true, but I worked with a lady who worked in the finance department at Foleys right before the Macy's take over and she mentioned that the downtown location was the one of the most profitable stores since they owned the building and didnt have any lease/rent expenses. Sounds like this might be one of those Astroworld type closures where the land/building asset sale is too good to pass up.
  2. I saw this on another site and I haven't seen it posted here at HAIF. Some of the highlights of the presentation: IAH Flat growth in domestic aviation in the next 5-10 years Turkish Airlines beginning service in April 2013 Expect new Asian carrier in the next year and in talks with new Latin American carriers as well. IAH in despearate need of infrastructure imporevements (electrical and sanitation) Lack of funds for new terminals and other improvements due to passenger facility charge of $3.00 per passenger which only began in 2008. All other major airports have been collecting this for years and are currently collecting $4.50 per passenger. Mentions Continental was dead set against it. United is showing more flexibilty towards the charges. Terminal B modernization underway and will resemble Terminal E Termianl D - alot of corners cut in construction back in 1990. $5 million worth of improvements to accomodate Airbus 380 (new jet bridge, preconditioned air improvements, power connections). Terminal D refresh in the next 6 months to modernize the waiting areas (currently green carperts on the wall!), add new restrooms (at 380 gate, only 4 stalls in each men and women restroom for plane that holds 520 people). Emirates Airlines has requested to build a 10,000 sq ft lounge and will pay for it but no room in Terminal D. HAS is working on the new Termianl D Modernization Plan Report and it should be complete in Q1 2013 with ground breaking in 2014. Plans will call for more widebody gates via a pier added onto Terminal D, more restrooms, more concessions and duty free shops, and more lounges. Add an additional Eco Park Lot on Will Clayton Major renovations to Airport Marriott Hotel Mentioned no plans to build any new terminals, only refresh and modernize existing terminals. Terminal A refresh will occur after Terminal D. New IAH Master Plan Report to be complete by December 2013. Old master plan from 2006 to mirror ATL terminal setup has been "Thrown in the trash". Not feasible, estimated at 20 billion. HOU In the process of designing International terminal of 5 gates expandable to 10-11 gates. New parking garage of 3,000 spaces Slight growth at HOU with new international service from Southwest. A lot of domestic flights will shift to DAL after the wright amendment expires in 2014 making room for the new international flights and associated connecting flights. New Hobby Master Plan Report to be completed by June 2013.
  3. I was referrring to swtsig's comment... I wasn't questioning the location of the Five Allen Center proposal by Brookfield.
  4. That cool looking 50 story tower, is this a west downtown or an east downtown proposal? Is this the Hines project that we were hearing about?
  5. This was mentioned in the 4615 Post Oak Place Thread but I think it deserves its own thread. This is what the two cranes are for in the Galleria area just inside the loop. From Nancy Sarnoff's Blog on chron.com Here’s what the city’s newest luxury apartment complex will look like. Gables Residential is under construction on this mid-rise project at the intersection of Post Oak Park and Post Oak Place. Tucked just inside the West Loop, the complex will have 316 units in 8 stories. Gables expects a summer 2012 opening.... Link

Like I mentioned in my previous post, looks like this is going to be like the regional jet area of terminal A only with a nicer waiting area and amenities. I never knew that area ever existed at IAH until I took a flight to Monore, LA this past weekend. Fortunately, both the terminal A regional jet area and this 1st phase of the terminal B expansion (south side gates) look to be stop gap temporary structures until the linear terminal alignments are implemented.

Where are the jetways? I hope this is not a suped up version of the regional jet area in Terminal A. That place is a hell hole.
  8. I'm glad that all lines will now be light rail but that uptown line along Post Oak NEEDS to be underground from Richmond to San Felipe. Its going to be a disaster making a left turn on Post Oak.
  9. It's light rail or nothing at all for Metro 03:12 PM CDT on Thursday, October 18, 2007 By Jeremy Desel and Wendell Edwards / 11 News In a major shift, Metro
  10. Good insider info Houston2010! Do you know if the City Centre rendering is Hines' 2nd tower?

    METRORail North Line

Light rail not buit built in its own dedicated right of way is a joke and a waste of time, traffic lanes, and $ (see main st. line).
  12. I'm somewhat disappointed in Victory. I was under the impression that Victory was going to be a great urban meeting space with energy and excitement that would become the heart and pulse of the city. Instead it looks like a town center/lifestyle center development that caters only to the rich with giant TV's. Dallasites, are you happy with how Victory has turned out?
  13. Ooops my bad! Is there a rendering for this project? Where is the redstone to be located? Klay
  14. I really hope this gets built, along with the Galleria Mix-use Pavillion project and the Downtown Pavillions project, I think these 3 projects could really change development patterns in Houston.
  15. Bloomingdales would be a nice addition. But after all the mergers and acquisitions is there another department store not in the Galleria? I don't think JC Penney and Sears are Galleria material. Maybe Harrods ...
  16. Can somebody post a pic of the rendering from the Chronicle.
  17. I would be a little more excited about this development if it wasn't centered around a shopping mall, but nevertheless it looks like a good project.
  18. Houston-Development, is there any way you could find out what hotel is being built on the site and how many stories. That is a pretty large crane for your typical 6-8 story hotel development. Also this would have been a nice step in the urbanization of the Galleria area if it weren't for that shopping center at the corner of Alabama and Sage. Once again 1 step forward 2 steps back....
  19. That's a very tight spot for a hotel, but I do remember seeing something about a mixed use development in the HBJ.
  20. Has anybody heard of this or know WHY THE HELL it's going to built in Pasadena? It's listed on the EDI architecture website under Projects On the Boards with everybody's favorite proposed project, The Shamrock.
