  1. Great shots, cityliving!

Is there an updated opening date they’re targeting for this? Or is it still TBD?

I think this is turning out to look really nice. Though I suppose once the fences all come down we’ll get a better idea of how it feels at street level. Hopefully much more inviting than its predecessor.

  2. Crazy! I was just thinking about Marco’s. My family used to go all the time when I was growing up to the one in Sugar Land. I remember the perfect attendance coupons they did for local elementary schools, too!

When did the one on OST close? I think I remember going there a couple times in the mid 2000s- it may have even been as late as ‘08 or ‘09. We’d found out that it was around and my family went one last time. We were still in SL at the time so it was a big hike to go all the way there. (And I’m pretty sure 59 was a disaster getting there/back lmao)

  3. I’ve found a couple of nice Youtube channels that seem to predominately feature H-town 😁

Walkabout Houston - Peaceful walks around various Houston landmarks/neighborhoods and events. There’s videos of the Art Car Parade, Houston Marathon, Lights in the Heights, Comicpalooza, and more. It’s a new-ish channel from last year, and I think it does a nice job showcasing some pretty sights around town.

HOUExplorer - Transit-focused channel features rides on various Houston buses, rail, etc. He also travels around the country and does videos of other cities’ transit systems.

Are there any channels that are Houston-focused that you like?

  4. There’s another reddit post from this morning, sounds like this happened again yesterday afternoon at the section just north of TSU.

This was posted by a woman who says her husband was jumped and pistol-whipped while on his bike, and is currently in ICU. She says that he was riding and came upon 4 guys who were blocking his path, and they robbed him.

    Same guys, maybe?

  5. I also forgot to mention, it’s not in the packet or anything but they also briefly mentioned the BRT line to IAH. No timeline, but this is the first time I’ve heard them talk about the BRT project to IAH. I’ll have to find the exact point in the meeting, but they I think were mentioning it in the context of NHHIP. So that would mean the last BRT project to get mentioned would be the BW8 one from Missouri City up to W Little York.

I agree, the BRT is gonna be absolutely awesome. I’m so glad they’re able to build out the network this fast- they mentioned we’re the only city in the US doing three projects concurrently.

  6. I wonder if there should just be a silver line general thread, covering the Uptown portion of the route, Inner Katy, and now the Gulfton extension? Or mods, if y’all think the Gulfton portion should be its own thread, do let me know and feel free to move my posts :)

During their last board meeting, Metro released their proposed route for the Gulfton extension of the Silver Line. It sounds like this is a route they’re pretty confident with, though one of the board members did ask that they consider the possibility of somehow connecting the Hillcroft TC. (However it is going to be a stop on the University Line, which will connect up to the Silver line via the Lower Uptown TC)

Here is the meeting packet that talks about it. Info on Gulfton starts on page 70.

  7. I know METRO answered that at some point, but I don’t remember where. It might’ve had to do with them not wanting to load at a stoplight in case it gets stuck for a cycle or something (ie- they stop at the station on a green light and end up having to wait longer because it turned red, and buses aren’t allowed to actually change traffic lights, but can hold them) , but I honestly don’t remember for sure.

  8. It sounds like they’re pretty serious (the Houston stakeholders I mean) about pursuing the Pierce Skypark, just going off the documents from downtown houston.

If they really do it, it’d be quite a bit wider than the High Line in NYC, wouldn’t it? There’d be some pretty awesome stuff they could do with the structure, lots of potential really neat uses and those views would be outstanding.

I can find master plans that designate it as F1 (and perhaps partly the plaza).  I cannot find anything that designates it as residential.

I was looking at IntheKnowHouston’s post of the retail brochure here:

In the most recent Ion District retail brochure (updated in July), there are building models for future phases.

The Ion District is a 16-acre, multi-phase district. It will consist of 3-5 million square feet of retail, commercial office, multi-family residential and hospitality  to be built in partnership with best in class developers over the next 10 years.
