Looks like the Winter Wonderlawn light display is going to be a ticketed event this year. From 11/4, the rooftop park will be ticket-only after 5pm. Prices right now are like $7 for Mon-Thu, and $10 for Sat-Sun. Kids under 5 are free. Prices are set to increase after Thanksgiving
It looks like it will be running from 11/4 to 1/14

Yes, and yes, I think the waterproofing on the garage is shot (or something to that effect). I know itās in their plans and theyāve floated a few renovation ideas. Some good, some .. But I donāt think theyāve announced a particular one, or a timeline on renos.

Aldiās has the funniest knockoff cereals Iāve ever seen, and so for that reason theyāre winners to me.

This appears to be a new/additional location on the third? floor (suite 3200). And at 5652 sq ft, I would guess this will either be a fine dining concept or event venue.
I wonder if this is one of the rooftop spaces? I want to say that I heard they had been interested in snagging one of them.Ā
Ā(incidentally I still have yet to try them!! Maybe I ought to :P)

@__neviiĀ I absolutely agree with you! The Houston areaās natural environments and really cool wildlife (and the neat ecoregions we have) are really what kickstarted younger me into appreciating it here much more than before. (especially gardening!! I really never appreciated how great it is to be able to garden year-round)
I think we are really a hidden gem of a city- on the surface, weāre very nondescript and pretty understated, and IMO Houston doesnāt exactly do a great job advertising itself, so I think a lot of people miss out on the great things we have to offer. But you just have to be a self-starter and scratch the surface yourself to see the cool things lurking underneath. I think our worst critics are ourselves, haha!
I try to be positive, because sometimes it seems like even our own local media wonāt toot our horn at all- ever- even if we do something cool. š Ā
sorry to continue the derailment. Back to Helix Park!

Iām pretty sure everyoneās aware by now, but Iāll still post it- Buffalo Bayou Park and Memorial Park will finally be connected by a trail!

Cool! I hope theyāll move on to the next phases soon, too! The renderings were really exciting!
I still havenāt gotten the chance to check it out. I hope the gardens are doing okay in this drought.Ā

Austin has pressures that Houston doesnāt- land is expensive, cost to develop is expensive, zoning means they canāt just plop down skyscrapers wherever they want. (Though Iām unsure if they wound up passing zoning reform- anyone know?)Ā
I donāt think detached homes and urbanity are mutually exclusive. I mean, the city I immediately think of is Tokyo. They have a lot of SF detached homes in the city and theyāre about as urban as it gets. (Though I donāt think Iāve seen as many 4-story homes as here in Houston. Lots of them have carports though.)Ā

Interesting! Green space is always a nice addition! :) Hopefully they can move on to Phase II. The HAIF Penthouse notwithstanding, I wonder how sales are going here?Ā

Wow that looks so nice!

I was there this afternoon! (No luck figuring out where Ste 2900 is though, sadly!)
Anyone know why they have the entire first floor in the X Atrium torn up? Itās on both sides of the staircase, and itās fenced off.

I meant to post this earlier, but better late than never I suppose!
POST is going to play host to Chopd & Stewd, a festival celebrating West African culture and cuisine being headed up by the owners ofĀ ChĆ²pnBlį»k.Ā
Itās gonna be on 9/30 and will take place on the Skylawn. Tickets will start at $45.
(interestingly the article mentions that theyāre fixing to open up a new, flagship outpost for ChĆ²pnBlok in 2024. Anyone have any ideas where thatāll be? š¤)

Sounds like it could be going on the second floor somewhereā¦.(Warning: Pure speculation ahead. Iām not good at reading filings like some of the GOATs on here! Just doing some digging around their site and doing guesswork)
On the POST site, there is a map showing available office space. The furnished space in the Z atrium on the right is 2440. There is a big chunk that says leased thatās directly above it. Iām not sure who the tenant is (nor the suite number) could it be the el tiempo guys?Ā
At any rate, Iāll be stopping by POST soonish for date night, so Iāll be sure to do a bit of on-the-ground poking around š- 1

Woah, good find! I wonder why it says conversion from office to restaurant- is that what other filings said? Could it be that this is possibly going in at a different part of POST out of the food hall? (Like maybe one of the X or Z atriums?)

Itās too bad about the old building (what a neat design!) but the new renderings look great, and this will surely be a welcome addition to the area, especially with that nice expanded pedestrian realm fronting Washington.

That comment was also made 4 months ago, so it may not be accurate to whatās happening behind the scenes. It sounds like Texas Central is still involved, so thereās that.Ā

Iām not sure how Iād feel being without a driver on a bus, but that might just be me. For me itās a safety thing. Iām sure in some ways itād be cheaper, but idk if Iād like that tradeoff, personally. Iām an outlier who usually likes buses more than trains for that reason. (Even if trains are physically more comfortable)

This was the storm that basically sealed the fate of Brownwood, right?Ā

I love going to the Galleria. Security definitely needs to be increased. Ā I try to shop on off times (Weekdays)and park valet. Ā
I love going as well. We park at one of the transit centers and take the silver line because parking is an absolute nightmare, haha. We havenāt had a lot of issues either, but 100% they need more security, I agree.Ā
I feel like Simon is dropping the ball with the Galleria (and some of their others too, like FC) in terms of creating an attractive place to be. In an era of online retail (esp. post-COVID) indoor malls are gonna have to work hard to re-invent themselves to stay relevant. And itās Houston, I want to have nice indoor things to do when itās the summer, or when thereās torrential rain!Cultural attractions, non-shopping options, stuff like that really ought to be brought in. Whoever manages Memorial City Mall (MCM) has done an outstanding job- the difference some comfortable seating areas makes is amazing. I could (and have!) spend a whole day at MCM- they have done a lot of quality of life upgrades that make it a much more pleasant place to spend time. Thereās a ton of amenities for kids, places to sit and rest, phone charging areas, ample non-foodcourt opportunities to get food/drink (vending machines everywhere) and it just feels more updated and comfortable. The Galleria, by contrast, in some ways almost feels hostile to shoppers and expects you to come in, shop, and GTFO. There are definitely great amenities there too (the ice rink! And the nice playground for the kids), but it doesnāt feel like they want people to sit, relax, recharge, and socialize like you can at MCM. So we wind up usually going to one or two places, grabbing something at Starbucks (since there arenāt a lot of comfortable places to sit), then leaving.
I wish theyād implement some changes to the Galleria to modernize it. Common spaces. Seating areas. Vending machines. More places for kids to blow off steam. It could really be more than just a mall. Itās got huge numbers of residents nearby, already snagged retail options at all income levels, Ā is on a good high-frequency transit line thatāll soon connect Downtown, and has ample square footage to do some really awesome stuff. If onlyā¦

How was it? Last year was so busy, I wonder if ticketing will make it a bit easier to get around and get some nice pics š
