  1. I see your point but it would be a pretty big miscalculation after doing so much underground pipe work. I guess funding could always fall through... we shall wait and see.

I was at Pub Fiction yesterday for happy hour and the renovations look nice! They have expanded the seating inside and out.

I spoke with one of the bartenders and he said they have no plans to leave that location. The bar they are building next to Howl at the Moon will be a different concept.

  2. In 1986, in the heart of Treviso, a new idea takes shape: the re-invention of the most quintessential Italian establishment: the Pizzeria, that idea is now a wonderful reality called Piola.

The success achieved in Italy by Piola has started to spread around the world: Piola's quality is now sought after by discriminating and trend-setting international clientele in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Turkey and coming soon Honduras.

At Piola, the most genuine Italian tradition of simple and delicious food combines cleverly with a particular service and ambiance for the demanding and modern customer, who chooses Piola aware of the fact that feeling comfortable is as important as eating well. People from all walks of life and backgrounds meet and gather at Piola, since they are sure to find their own space in an atmosphere that balances freedom and well being with good taste.

Piola's cuisine is rigorously Italian: Simple and healthy. Piola's pizza is thin-crust and well cooked, but above all, Piola's pizza menu is very creative: the classic Italian pizzas are flanked by many other creations, all delicious and original.

But Piola is more, much more:

Piola opens its doors to culture, hosting film premieres, book and magazine events, art exhibitions and many other social and artistic activities.

Piola also becomes an editor and publisher: Piola's magazine embodies all that Piola brings to its international customers on a daily basis. Thirty-five thousand copies of a fourty eight page, full color, yearly magazine, written in Italy and translated in 4 languages.

does anyone else find it obnoxious how they write about themselves in the 3rd Person? Maybe they hired Jimmy to do their PR?

  3. The store will dillute Target's market share at its Sawyer Heights. Investors will see that Wal-Mart's market share is increasing and Targets is not and will move their money over to Wal-Mart, driving the price of Wal-Mart's stock up and the opposite for Target's.

Good point...we all know how large institutional investors like to jump ship from one company to another based on the relative quartly earnings of a single store. :)

  4. They seem to have had plenty of staff but they need to better organize who works at the lanes and who works around the bar.

This was an issue for us as well. They had a ton of people working, but most of them were just standing there doing nothing. I guess that can be attributed to the management once again.

Anyway, I'm glad they straightened everything out for you. The prices during the day are pretty reasonable so I'm not surprised they do good business Friday afternoons.

I hope they fix the management issues because I would really like to have a bowling alley so close to my house.

  5. I wonder why the waitress said that. Maybe a sob story to paper over the fact that she wasted a tray of drinks.

I (obviously) wondered the same thing myself. It was just a strange situation all around. She didn't even show her face after the manger came over.

I would have liked to ask her who exactly said what because we were nothing but nice to this lady the whole night.

  6. Had a date last night.... after dinner I wanted to do something different so I took him to Lucky Strike Lanes... the wait was about 1 hour for a lane so we decided to pass though I will DEFINITELY be going back b/c the place looked great!

The setup is pretty cool there, unfortunately the management is a freaking joke.

I'll go ahead and post my story that I wrote for another site. Feel free to give it a shot, but I sure hope you have a better experience!

Let me preface this by saying I was extremely excited about the opening of this place downtown. I enjoy the occasional trip the bowling alley but have never been a big fan of the Palace Lanes in Bellaire.

So, we decided to go try out Lucky Strikes last night for Monday Night Football and some bowling. They have big screens everywhere so it seemed like a good fit. It ended up being my girlfriend, me and two other couples.

From the moment we got there, there were problems. The brand new ball return system kept getting clogged and the scoring system was messing up as well. For some reason, every time there was a scoring issue, they require you to go to the front desk and have it corrected. After an hour of trying to make it through a single game, they moved us to another lane.

Knowing this place was new, we were all very patient with the people. The fact that the football game was on made it easier to tolerate.

This brings us to the next issue of slow service by the waitress. The girl serving us was either really slow or completely stoned because she took an eternity to bring drinks and would often screw them up when they came. This would normally be understandable, but the place was nearly empty and we were her only group. Again, we chalked this up to the staff being new and ran with it. Her last time around she managed to spill the entire tray of drinks on the ground. My girlfriend and her sister helped her pick up the drinks and she ran off.

Next thing we know, the bar manager comes out to discuss our tab. We figured she heard about the slow service and shoddy lanes and wanted to apologize.

Not exactly. Instead she told us she had closed our tab and wanted us to leave immediately. All six of us are in shock and someone asks why she closed us out in the middle of our second game. She tells us that our waitress is in the back crying because we "verbally assaulted" her. After asking what exactly we said to her that was so offensive, she say's that several times in the night, various people in our group told the waitress: "hey beatch, next time your bring my drink over, put it in my GD hand!" and other equally rude things. This was a surprise to us and everyone around us, but the drink manager said it was her word against ours and she has to protect "her staff's feelings".

Dumbfounded, I try to appeal to the lane manager who had been helping us the whole time and was out there. He says that he can't get involved because he wasn't able to hear all of our conversations. He does finally admit that we were all very polite with him and that he would be shocked if this had happened.

No matter, they want us out. The general manager finally comes over and apologizes for the bar manager but says its "out of his hands". He does tell everyone that next time we come back, the first round is on him! THANKS BUDDY! icon8.gif

Anyway, long story short. This place is the worst managed establishment I have ever encountered and I will be shocked if they're still open in three months. There were just so many ways in which they handled that situation poorly. If they really were worried that we were being rude, they could have assigned us another waitress and gotten her opinion. Instead, the immediately became rude and confrontational.

It's too bad because it's a nice setup and has a lot of potential.

  7. Ugh. Further contributing to the suburbanization of Midtown. A low-end, north Texas, tex-mex place?

further proof that people will whine about anything on this board.

people complain when nothing gets built in midtown, then they complain that too many bars and not enough restaurants are being built. Now we have complaints about the origin and price range of the restaurants being built. :)

  8. i know someone who just got a great deal on a foreclosure. ~90K less than its last sale.

It will be a great deal as long as they can keep their arrangement with the parking garage across the street. Otherwise, selling those units will be tough.

  9. Can't one report this sort of poor service and ugly behavior to the MLS or board of realtors? Who can one complain to about this sort of issue?

The best person to report this kind of behavior too is the broker. Unfortunately in Natasha's case, I think she's works for one of the 100% commission shops so the broker probably doesn't know who she is :(.

  10. Natasha is a character as well. When I spoke with her, she told me she had left the country before putting the lockboxes on!

Generally you'll find that short sales and foreclosures don't get listed by the best and brightest in the industry :)

  11. Does that agent have it wrong, or maybe its a variable rate or something?

    She has it wrong.

Good luck getting Crystal to respond to any inquiries you may have about the property by the way. I've tried every way I know of contacting her with no success.
