Yeah, I had an annoying moment in St. Louis when I tried to ride a shared scooter to the Gateway Arch, and it refused to let me drop off the scooter at a certain place on the sidewalk because the geofence was convinced I was trying to leave it in the restricted park area (I wasn't). Ended up having to go back a block and drop it off.

I will never get over how a few dozen or hundred property owners are holding hostage an infrastructure project that will benefit millions and be a major win for the environment. Just take your fair payout and let the rest of the world make progress.

You are 💯 correct that people are entitled to their opinion, but I am entitled to decide how and where I spend my money. It is a two way street.
If you can enlighten me about Roostar, I will appreciate it. Not familiar with the ownership.100%. I don't have to give my money to people who I disagree with. It's what they would probably call "cancel culture" but I prefer to call it "the free market."

When I passed by this morning, it looked like some of the bricks might have been chipped at? I don't know if twas already like that, or if they are going to remove those bricked up sections
There were some sections with bricks missing, and they've also knocked out a lot of holes for windows. Looks like they're well on their way now to getting the brickwork patched up as well as adding brand new brick wall sections along Emancipation. Starting to look good.

Where are we at on this building? Are we getting close to topping out?
What I've found online indicates it should only be about 20 feet shy of 609 Main when it's done. They may top out on usable floors soon, but I think we still have quite a bit more visual height to go.

Easy, just change it to THE HOUSTON PAST

I'd like to see more roundabouts if only because they are opportunities for public art/monuments, which Houston could always use more of.

Oof, that seems like a bad sign for the neighborhood. We desperately need the multifamily density to get things like a grocery store in here.

Are these pie in the sky? Everything East of 59, North of 45, and south of I-10 has exploded (and continues to explode) with homes and apartments. There's very little retail or small offices to keep up with the demand.
You make a valid point that there seems to be an imbalance between housing supply and retail demand in the area. Like I said, not claiming to be an expert on how developers gauge demand. I was really only referring to the fact that it seems odd for developers to keep announcing projects when similar mixed-use developments in close proximity seemingly have languished in construction or had trouble securing tenants, that's all.
Believe me, I'll be thrilled when we get any of the things you listed here in the neighborhood!

Drove by this over the weekend and in person I thought the podium felt a lot nicer than in the photos. I was worried about it being large and stark from street level, but when you get a little bit of the sense of material in person it's not bad.

I don't claim to have any real knowledge of how the economics of retail development like this work, but... does it seem like we just keep getting more and more plans for redeveloped warehouses on the east side and.... not a lot of them actually coming online? I mean, just within a few blocks we've got:
- the Post building at Polk & Emancipation
- Frankel's at Polk & Delano
- HCC building at Dallas & Delano
and plenty more all across the east end.
I don't know, maybe this is normal. But it kind of feels like every developer has pie in the sky hopes for a market that seems like it's not supporting this kind of rapid development at the moment?

Just give me a grocery store 😭

Went and saw Tenet at this drive-in last weekend. The experience was... lacking.
They really had an opportunity to do something genuinely cool and lift everyone's spirits in a time where we're all desperately in need of a little escape. Instead, this seemed like a minimum-possible-effort operation.
The screen is... acceptable. Not big, and definitely not bright. But it's a drive-in, so they mostly get a pass for that kind of stuff. They had a lot of audio technical issues up front, which resulted in none of the previews being watchable. It was thankfully fixed for the main feature, albeit starting at least 15 minutes late.
But where they really failed is in the experience surrounding the movie. There was one sad taco truck, one sad drinks tent run by The New Potato, and one bank of portapotties that... were out of order. The drink tent purported to sell beer, wine, and White Claw, but they were out of wine. With a little bit of effort they could really have made this into a fun, safe place to spend an evening that I'd be looking forward to returning to.
At least the skyline view is great.

YES! I want a whole neighborhood full of this.

As a resident of EaDo, I see this project as more or less a break-even. I can say that the presence of 59 feels psychologically like much more of a barrier to downtown than GRB does. When I'm walking to Astros games, crossing under 59 is ugly at best, scary at worst. That said, GRB is huge and I wish it could be split in half and have Lamar or McKinney continue through it. The current shape and alignment of Discovery Green makes that basically impossible, but it's a nice pipe dream. Losing Polk as an entrance to downtown isn't thrilling, but I know I'd be more inclined to walk to downtown than drive if the cap parks existed. I really only see the project as being potentially worth it if the caps get done.
What it will do:
Make Houston a much more beautiful city to live in
Make pedestrian and bike access from midtown and EaDo into downtown much safer and more inviting
Reduce homeless encampments
Cost a lot of money
What it won't do:
Reduce congestion on any of the freeways
Actually solve any of the problems of homelessness

Something about that leasing brochure is making me unsurprised they haven't been able to lock down tenants

I'm piping in here to defend the honor of Moon Tower and Seaside Poke. Both are among my favorite places in the neighborhood - never gotten anything bad at either!

Man, I would love so much to buy this place and turn it into a loft-style hotel a la The Iron Horse in Milwaukee. Too bad I have $0 😆
Who wants to invest??

I'm not sure if it's a popular opinion, but 700 Louisiana has always been the defining iconic building in the skyline in my mind.

For Austin, it is the Chase tower and Dallas could be Reunion Tower and maybe the slanted glass building.
Do you mean the Frost Bank tower in Austin?
