Some of us are so damned old we still think of it as the Humble Building. My dad worked there when it opened in 1963. I got a molded plastic model of it from the Mold-A-Rama machine on the top floor. I was disappointed...I wanted a model of the "Domed Stadium" instead. I vaguely remember being in the car when my mom picked my dad up at the old Humble Building on Main at Dallas.
The owners need to leave the building as it is. Maybe even replicate the cool space-age fountains it originally had out front.

uuhhhh wut. I'm already missing that Shipley's but that is nice compared to what the old location looked like.
I still miss the Del Taco.

That warehouse demo is actually a tiny building that has gone through several iterations thru the years. I ride on McKee often because they have a protected bike lane. I believe it was originally was a fleet mechanics building then it became a Punk Club called Houston Underground for a while, it closed and got painted again and became a bar. It's been closed for a while.
Here's what it looked like 11 1/2 years ago. Seems longer, actually, but it's dated December 2009.

Any time there’s heavy traffic I’m white-knuckling the steering wheel.
My knuckles blanch just thinking about Westheimer east of Montrose.

I deleted this from my Flickr page just in case it's not the real deal.

I have seen lots of recollections (few of them fond ) on the Montrose Nextdoor concerning the tiny HEB that was once there.........
That HEB Pantry store was nice. I really missed it after it closed.

From what I read on another website’s forum earlier today, I may be suffering from a “rabid anti-density paradigm” all because I think that stretch of Bissonnet is a stupid place to put this boring-a$$ed tower. Who knew???😳😳😳

You know, back in the early-to-mid 60s, the nearest grocery store to our house was a Weingarten's. Literally about a 5 minute walk from our front door. My mom refused to ever shop there, though, because she said the store literally stank. By the time Weingarten sold their grocery business, their stores were pretty nice. I would shop their West Gray and Dunlavy locations. Looks like my mom was right about them all along, however. They stink to high hell.

I have been photographing this structure for quite some time, and it has risen pretty quickly.
Really? It just seems like it's taking forever. Must be me.

Am I just too impatient or is it taking longer than usual for these buildings to rise?

You realize city permitting makes anything that is not super cookie cutter very expensive, time consuming, and risky to do right? Need variances for anything remotely pleasing to the eye.
Does that include the Lyric Center parking garage or the Cambridge Office Building parking garage at Rice because both of those are excellent? Also the parking garage at the proposed development at Taft and Fairview was/is definitely not the ordinary schlocky garage.

Mad props to the developer for taking a risk, I hope it pays off for them and encourages others (hint Skanska) to see Montrose has an area that will allow for a bit more creativity than other parts of town.
If you ask me, it’s the developers who are averse to creativity, not any particular parts of town.

Also, I know we lamented the loss of the old library, and some part of me does too, but a rooftop reading deck sounds great.
Do we know yet what the University of Saint Thomas is planning for the old Library/Black Lab property? I would HATE to see it demolished and replaced.
