Anyone have any idea on when the city plans on starting on that alleged round about?
-
I'm not opposed to this project, but I do understand the neighbors frustrations. The streets are really narrow, and the area is veryyyy residential with only a few small businesses here and there along Bissonnet. However, this is very much a Houston type project. Massive buildings going up residential/ small streets, with strip centers/ gas stations/ parking lots going up main streets. Wish we could work the other way to put these larger buildings along major streets like Kirby or somewhere in the museum district, but it is what it is.

Please please don't replace with parking or a strip center

gonna miss running thru all that shade....you could actually feel the temp drop when running thru there
Some of those trees might not be on the property line......hopefully 😂

Im sure it was discussed before, but thats planned for block 97 which is below. I think it's a really nice garage, the only annoying thing is it would be surround by other garages on 3 sides and a the back of a building on 1 side; all with no retail/ street presence. Are these kinds of blocks normal for other downtowns in the country? Just curious.

Bird of the World wasn't on the website until I checked two-three weeks ago: https://shrstudios.com/on-the-boards
And its not in planning status like some of the others on the website, so assumedly this thing is ready to go soon.
The parking garage can't come soon enough, it seems like the Zoo and Hermann park are somehow bringing even more people in, as the lines to get into the lot are larger than I remember pre-covid, and the parking on the street lining the park is packed by noon on Saturday.
Do we have a renderings of the garage? Really hope it looks decent since its in the middle of a park.
-
I feel like we should expect to see a different rendering than the one listed above; since the building layout and the building rendering don't correlate with each other......hopefully

That looks really ugly with that black covering on the building, not sure why they choose to cover a building like that?
I think it's for safety, so material doesn't fly away and hit someone on the street level.

I find this so depressing 😢. What a heinous parking garage. Like God saw the absurdity of the Ashby protests and decided to curse us with this actual nightmare highrise our sins.
I feel like they haveeeee to do something about it to make it look decent......i'm staying hopeful 🙃

This is a budget gym, nothing wrong with that, but for this development??

I wonder if he’s talking specifically about the parking lots around the stadium or just the NRG area in general?
I think he's talking about developing the area of the park itself, and the only area thats developable is the parking lots.

I wonder if these are their current plans for the two properties they seem to own/manage or plans have changed?
The new building looks almost identical to the old building, from where the main/how the entrance is, to the height difference between the two buildings :/ hopefully this was the original plan before they decided to tear down the building. Extremely boring/ bare minimum design. Hopefully plans change.

But there does need to be HOV lanes in order to build elevated lanes above HOV lanes as you proposed. 😉
But more to the point, probably because TxDot is planning to construct elevated managed lanes above the center of the freeway.
Ohhhh I see what you mean. There aren't HOV lanes on that portion of i10. I really wish they would replicate the 610 portion of the bus lanes.

Maybe because there is no HOV lane in the middle of the highway??
There are bus lanes in the middle of 610 that were recently built without HOV lanes. There doesn't need to be HOV lanes to build elevated lanes in the middle.

In all fairness, whoever is using it to go to the Heights (north of i10) will still have to cross the highway with the current design, at least if it was in the middle it would be split between those traveling north and south of i10.

METRO posted a project video yesterday:
I don't see why they can't just do it over the HOV lane in the middle of the highway instead of cutting down those hundreds of trees/ expanding the width of the highway.
I might be alone on this, but I hateeeeee the design.

I would also like to add that although Uniqlo is Japanese, it's also an international clothing store. It's basically like the GAP of Asia but has stores across the globe. There's actually US stores outside of NYC and LA; Boston, Philly, NJ, DC area, Orlando, Chicago, SF, and Seattle. They also have stores all over Europe! In conclusion, the Japanese population is irrelevant to where a Uniqlo opens up.
Think Zara (Spain), H&M (Swedish), Topshop (UK); they're not looking for their racial demographic but their "style" demographic. Houston would be great market since Uniqlo is very minimalistic/ laid back/ affordable. Houston style is very laid back.

It's crazy to me how such a major project isn't funded yet some of the smaller local streets are. I know its not how it should be prioritized, but I already thought major streets should get priority over local/ neighborhood streets that get less traffic. Hopefully this can move forward soon.
