I heard a rumor that Bobby Huegel and Justin Yu are going to take over Night Shift as the 2nd 'Better Luck Tomorrow' but call it 'Better Luck Manana' with a focus on Bobby's beloved agave spirits.

I do not envy the people who live in the houses next to this property.

Would be cool if new ownership could bring back the original team involved and just start up operations under the same name. I love the custom decor and vibes of that spot and it still feels so new. It would be a waste to scrap it.

I was driving by this warehouse today and the garage door was open. They were bringing out or loading in Slingshots. I've noticed some cars parked there during the day over the past month or so. Specifically a guy just sitting in a white car with the driver door open.... Kinda odd behavior. Either way, it's either being used as a storage warehouse or a rental center for these things. I guess we won't be seeing a food court any time soon!

Houston Avenue? That's not at this location.

Does anyone have an actual lead on what this property will be developed into? East River construction is going full steam ahead and it seems like the right time to start if this were to be a major grocery store.

As someone who lives on Commerce St., a substantial reworking and repaving of Commerce with dedicated bike lanes added to connect the Harrisburg Rail Trail and Buffalo Bayou trails in downtown is definitely optimal.
Are there any actual funds or work planned for Commerce St? I fully agree with this and am tired of the East End neglecting this major corridor with all the development going on along it.

That's smart on their part. Think of all the extra money they'd make by charging for parking for sporting events/concerts.
I wasn't a big fan of the delapataded buildings there tbh.

I like the industrial look with the bricks. They match the building in the background as well as others around the east end. This is actually looking to be a really nice gas station. This area has been sorely needing one. Any word on the restaurant that's going in?

anybody have any additional insight into what this property will be used for?

also really impressed with their service, ambience, food and drinks. I really have nothing but good things to say about it. It's an instant staple for the east end.

I can already tell this bar is trash before I ever set foot in it.

the facade when viewed from Leeland looks quite ok, but when you look at the 'back side'. woof.
this building is pretty unique in Houston, whenever a new building goes up in Houston someone says it was a missed opportunity for mixed use, and well, here's what is clearly a residential on top of first floor retail.
we don't need to build that urban density in the East End, it's already well established!
Woof indeed. Wtf is that??

ya'll make good points about the lack of Dynamo interest by bars, but they're trying to fit the demand, which really is not in the Dynamo's favor right now. I want that to change, but it will take time.
Anyways, this new concept is an exciting departure from the eyesore that was there for years. I think it's actually in a really good/unique location for this type of bar/restaurant. Hope it does well. I will definitely be checking it out soon!

When will they tear down that run-down building down the street with a liquor store and who knows what else in there?

yeah saw crowds around that area last night

Big fan of Moon Tower dogs and I think their burgers are solid.
Roostar was very good! The convenience and quality of it exceeds any slight increase in prices vs other viet food spots around. They also have beer on tap and a other stuff in their fridge if you want, which is pretty cool.
Teapresso bar (coffee/boba tea spot) is opening up a location right next door to Roostar and their sign is up already (but I think they still have a few months before they're ready to open).

I noticed today that they're piling up all the metal racks and what not in containers to haul away. I'm assuming next is tear down/demolition of the structures around the property?

Culture map just posted an article with some more info on Cafe Louie.

I think this should be moved or linked to the East End forum. @Urbannizer

There had been utility equipment set up along that street with a pipe that ran down to the commerce street intersection for over a year. I wonder if it had something to do with that.

Haha just a rumor I heard from someone in the industry. Take with a giant grain of salt.
