Harvey had an effect on our migration and most likely is the only reason Houston had negative net growth. We have tons of new residential developments in Harris county and I don’t think anyone is worried about losing people.

So excited for a larger district with both developments in this area. The possible planned high/mid rises is starting to creep up there now. If they all get built this will be possibly the most densely populated area in Houston am I right?

I’m curious about this project, could be HEB’s most urban concept? It is becoming such a dense area, maybe they will replicate Pearl and Whole Foods in midtown, hopefully even more. Love HEB

I hope they consider the project for light rail on Richmond and through Uptown by the time the bicentennial rolls around. Maybe throw in a line in Washington corridor to connect to the high speed rail and have a fully interconnected inner city.
This is my dream

Did someone mention that they were going to move this rail line or discontinue it?

According to Emporis (they don't show anything for McNair yet)
1. Williams Tower 901
2. San Felipe Plaza 646
3. 5555 San Felipe 562
4. The Post Oak 496
5. Five Oaks Place 477
6. Aspire Post Oak 453
7. Four Leaf Towers I 444
Four Leaf Towers II 444
9. 1330 Post Oak Blvd 420
10. The Mercer 401
11. Five Post Oak Park 389
I do see the McNair project on Emporis. It’s planned (proposed) and states 3 towers.
1. Rosewood Hotel - 678
2. McNair Residential Tower - 438
3. McNair Office Building - 239
I’m sure things could change though, but still it’s interesting.

I didn’t see Aspire on there oops.

Emporis says this high rise is 453ft upon completion in 2021.

Best current development by far. Super excited for it. I have a special interest in this area and wish I could implement my own project 👀

If they can integrate greenery onto the parking structures that would be awesome.

Jane Jacobs example works really good when the historic area is already in an urban setting.
A book that's really good about discussing character of spaces and what makes for good spaces and areas with identities is Kevin Lynch's, "Image of a City". Of course there are suburban neighborhoods which should try to preserve their identity, but since the ones we talk about everyday are in areas which should have been urbanized long ago it's hard to preserve them 😕
The growing pains that Houston is going through, and will maintain into the future, is reconciling with the fact that almost the entire city has been suburban or even "sub-rural", if you will, for so long that because of the explosion of growth and race to densify almost the entire city is vulnerable in terms of its suburban fabric and architecture. It doesn't help that the draconian laws that prevented urbanization inside the loop for two decades further solidified these areas as suburban planted on quality urban plots. I guarantee you that if those laws were not in place that whole area would already been mid-rise just keep with demand to be closer to market areas such as this.
It's an architectural discourse that has be presented and discussed. We will probably have these same conversations years later with more of East Downtown and more of Washington Ave get further redevelopment because they have such a low-rise architectural fabric it simply will be difficult for the city to preserve these parts of our history.

I think this is a ridiculous location and can't imagine it gets built. That said, some other nice hotels in the area aren't in exactly prime locations either--e.g., Houstonian, St. Regis, Omni. Granted these hotels are very different than a Hard Rock hotel.
I think for luxury hotel developments, being a little of the main drag is not necessarily a bad thing. I think St. Regis is nicely tucked away as is the Houstonian. For a Hard Rock though I don’t see how it could ever work out. If a “failing” W brand can’t land in Houston in a good location, then how does a mediocre brand like Hard Rock land in a silly location on the backside of Uptown. A significant development here would help to obscure the view of the Mercer. Worst building in Houston.

Does anyone know the projected height of this development?

More green space integrated with the townhome developments would be nice for the aesthetic of the neighborhood, especially before it fills in.

I can’t wait to scroll through when it is topped out and see the progress take shape.

I always liked the sound of East End
These kind of developments help give the “East side” a stronger sense of a neighborhood, I’m really not a fan of the rows upon rows of individual town homes.

I would think ballpark district downtown would be better for a development like this and the W would fit in this location especially if they could create walkable retail to connect to McNair project and Post Oak.

By the way I am new to commenting on the forum but I have really enjoyed following for awhile now. It is such a great tool for those a little more interested in our great city and what the future holds, as well as being able to see where projects started from-the speculation and of course who drops the first tidbits of info. Exciting times.

I hope they place restaurant/retail fronting the new park.
