There is plenty of room to build dense and any development that embraces green space is planning for the future and trying to set a better example. I want a couple of world class green spaces to add to downtown area.

I really wish someone would develop the lot with the Cadillac dealership into a open space mixed use with green space since it is also a contiguous block

What all does the 1.7 acre parcel entail

Maybe they are on the heels of redefining their company portfolio haha. All of those areas are ready for redevelopment 👀

It does say long-term proposal though so we may not have any new info for awhile.

The lights in the crown really make this building ... all of the lit-up buildings were blue last night ... anyone know why?
I believe it was in correspondence with an event held at Buffalo bayou park last night for the full moon.

Wow that’s jaw dropping, I love Hines. I would love to meet with Gerald Hines over lunch.

I was thinking that part of this land could be student housing as well as standard residential. I feel that the retail market would do well and bring more of the campus towards it.

Is this the future superblock of the med center? The renderings from 1020 Holcombe and if/when they build this.. Plus TMC 3 nearby to the south - to me it seems like a smart move. Innovation tower across the street also.. 😎

That area is walkable as I live in this area and usually walk to 24 Hr Fitness and eateries in the area on Richmond and Sage and even to the Galleria on a cool day. 😁 Also there are other developments that will be coming up on the other side of Sage and along McCue plus the 59/610 project will make it easy access to get there.
We shall see I guess. I don’t quite see the same potential for the area is all, Uptown lacks entertainment venues.

I have faith, some people knocked the idea of discovery green at first, this could be another jewel for downtown. I wonder how long this development will take.

If they took the railroad out they could put residential behind it

I wish they could generate some kind of architectural change with the roof maybe create a different silhouette. A small pocket may open up after the highway realignment? For residential maybe? I wish they could augment this development to include residential and better access. Someone mentioned a Franklin Street reroute or something, that would be interesting.

Hopefully after the city hall annex meeting they will have renderings for us. Maybe before since they would most likely present them at the meeting, correct?

My understanding is that Dr. Mann still wants to follow through with additional phases of the project after the medical office building is completed. Unfortunately, I have no information on whether the former design would be retained.
My personal dreamshot would be for Hines to partner up with him to help get it done. They own the Southmore and acquired the Venue Museum District that is catty-corner to the site of the proposed tower (the current site for the Mann-Eye Institute).
The full project would be a game changer for the area. The old design was very attractive too but I guess I won’t put too much hope into it.

Maybe they are waiting for the highway to be redeveloped? 🤷🏽♂️ Museo Plaza would be an awesome trophy tower for this area.. if it ever happens.

University of Houston Campus Developments
in Going Up!
Posted · Edited by ZRFkris
While that sounds great, I think it is great that UH is building the medical school on campus to increase the perspective of UH as a medical college. Texas A&M, Baylor and UT have longevity. UH can attain similar status maybe but it is not quite there yet. Let’s build up our medical program on campus and then expand to TMC later on and more community involvement with the university in the 3rd ward is always a positive thing.
Also these other colleges have a ton of more money than UH. Land is cheaper in 3rd ward.
