Article on this but I can't get past the paywall
"Louisiana-based Origin Bank (Nasdaq: OBNK) is relocating one of its nine Houston branches to a site near Hermann Park.
The bank is moving its Museum District banking center from the current location at 5115 South Main St. to a site at 1511 Binz St., just a few blocks away from Hermann Park..."
“We have recently received regulatory approval to relocate our Museum Banking Center to 1511 Binz Street at the corner of La Branch and Binz in the first quarter of 2019,"
"In 2016, Excelsior Land Co. Inc., a Houston-based company that is linked to eye surgeon Paul Michael Mann, submitted a plat record to the city of Houston for a mixed-use project with a high-rise component. The 2.4-acre plat included the Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center’s main office at 5115 South Main St. However, it is unclear if the bank's site relocation is related to the proposed mixed-use project."

Retail and grocers wont come into downtown until there are more residents, which, even if there's a DTLI-redux or an oil-boom, will be another 5-10 years.
More hotels are nice, but unless there's more for people to do downtown then they will really only benefit business travelers/convention-goers. Hotels in-and-of-themselves don't promote tourism unless they have world-class amenities (e.g. rooftop pools, day/night clubs, connected retail centers). The best thing Houston could do is allow casinos.

My understanding is they INO will be opening several locations over a relatively short period of time. There’s 19 locations in DFW and over 10 elsewhere in TX (~5 a piece in SA and Austin + 1 in Waco and Killeen). So it’s safe to say that Houston will at least get 5, with 15-20 being more realistic.

Surface lot isn’t fenced... and it’s been there for about a year.

Financial close?
" The interest-bearing loan, along with the equity provided to date (the majority coming from Texas entrepreneurs) will provide enough funding for all activities required for the project to reach financial close, according to a statement. With this injection of funds, Texas Central can move ahead on permitting, design, and engineering and to begin construction by 2019"

Site plan from the leasing brochure. According to the Chronicle, a R Bar and a Yoga Studio will be opening in the next few months.
QuoteIn the coming months, a yoga studio and a sports bar will open in the 16,000-square-foot space. Kaldis envisions a variety of other tenants, perhaps an upscale barber shop, a furniture showroom and small offices, filling in some of the remaining available space.

Yep, I knew that.

Mendocino Farms is awesome. Such an exciting addition to Downtown. I’m happy that Houston is the first city for expansion outside of California. Looks like we’ll get at least two locations with Rice Village and Downtown.

So Radom is coming in and buying up a strip center on Westheimer and bringing a more walkable, integrated development... Win win. Cant wait for all the strip centers heading into Midtown to be gone. Especially the mattress stores.

I don't know how someone could look at that marketing brochure and not deduce that Lovett is expanding the "Arts District"/"Sawyer Yards".

More on 1818 Washington Ave, part of the Sawyer Yards expansion.
PaperCity:
There will be other tenants, depending on how it shakes out so far as square footage. Likely another couple of large restaurants and quite a bit of unique urban entertainment concepts,” Lovett Commercial’s Erin Dyer tells PaperCity.
“A tenant we’re working with is an axe-throwing concept. It’s a fun experience we’re bringing to the campus. We’re able to do that because we have large buildings we’re able to repurpose. It’s hard to find that amount of space in urban Houston.”
“These old buildings — you can’t really create them. It’s an experience in addition to going to a salon or fitness. It’s an experience that you really can’t recreate or mirror simply because of the unique feel to the area,” Clay Mealy of Lovett Commercial adds.

Spent the weekend in Austin, which has these everywhere downtown. I was skeptical of them at first, but boy we enjoyed getting around on them.
Having these in Houston would do wonders to connect the sprawling entertainment zones. Downtown, Discovery Green, Midtown, Eado, and Washington Ave would be SO much easier to travel between and would make the ITL experience so much more enjoyable for visitors.
These could even work in the Museum District, Montrose, The Heights, Buffalo Bayou Park, Memorial Park, Highland Village and Post Oak/Galleria.
