  1. I picked up a copy of "Houston" magazine last night as I was leaving Spec's. Interesting interview with Liz Lambert, owner of the Hotel San Jose in Austin. In the article it mentions 2 seperate Houston Hotel projects she is involved with, one of which sounds like it might be part of this development. The other, was specifically stated to be a hotel in the Montrose area near the Menil. Both sound pretty cool. I would take Hotel San Jose over a W any day. I cannot find a website for this magazine - but I was somewhat surprised how interesting some of the articles were - the remainder of it is just silly socialite pictures.
  2. About 4 years ago I remember reading that the Garden in the Heights was purchased in a news release (I think in the HBJ) that stated it was going to be completely renovated and improved. It was going to be used for wedding receptions, parties, etc. I was excited as the article sounded like it would remain as is but with improvements. I really enjoyed attending the Octoberfest and other festivals that were held there. However, it sat with no action for several months and I started to get skeptical with all of the town home development going on. I sent an email to one of the local preservation groups, as I knew the Meeting hall had some history, to see if they knew anything regarding the status of the project. They responded that they would look into it. Eventually, one day when driving on Waugh I noticed town home signs at the property and shortly after the beer hall and garden were both gone. It pains me every time I drive north on Waugh when I see the area. I attended a St. Arnold festival there about 9 years ago when I first moved to Houston and the Beer Garden was one of the reasons I moved to the Heights.
  3. I think Kaboom is moving to Houston Ave, into one of the old buildings where Bayland ends. They have their logo on the window and there is a sign in saying they are opening soon.
  4. wow. That is a really good song. Sounds like a perfect candidate for HAIF Radio.
  5. Looks like they updated the plate with the skyline... You can now clearly make out Houston buildings in the plate... From the voting website it says: "* - This image was updated at 5:30 p.m., February 4. Though the composite skyline is similar, we inadvertently posted the wrong image."
  6. Did you happen to notice if the stage is still there? I am hoping they plan to book music here.
  7. Wasn't there supposed to be a Plaza developed in the suface parking lot between the new Civil and Criminal Courthouses? It was supposed to have a big Lone Star in the middle of it. Anyone know the status of this?
  8. Did any of you notice if you have the option to order pizza by the slice if you dine at the counter? It is hard to find pizza joints in Houston that serve by the slice. As with any new launch, they're still smoothing some things out. It did take a while to get our food. It's really more of a pick-up/delivery place...a few seats at the counter and some other chairs, that's it. Here's their site: http://www.pinkspizza.com/
