  1. I voted McCain 100% because I don't believe in socialism

Why is everyone so scared of the word "Socialism" ? America is in the closet about socialism, we already practice many government programs that are "socialist". Germany and many other countries that are "Democratic Socialist" countries have been doing quite well, even better to some extent than America. Maybe we can learn something from our older brethren countries in Europe...

I voted Nader for President. My biggest problem with our government is that it is controlled by corporations who are running this country to deepen their pockets, not to govern the American people.

  2. 3 times my neighbors garbage disposal would empty into my bathroom

(Pardon my post, but I am a Germaphob)

What! That is disgusting and the fact that it happened three times? After the second time I would have demanded some sort of compensation, third time I would have broken my lease contract.

I don't even see how it is possible though, they shouldn't even be on the same line in a high-rise building.

  3. Thank you for your suggestion AJB857. I will keep him in mind if I can't get this guy back out in the future. Incidentally, he wound up only charging me $130 for the gas line. He figured out a nice simple way to do it that didn't even require getting in the attic. I had him install a toilet and bathroom faucet, including new shut off valves and water lines, while he was at it. I am strapped for time and working on moving in, so it was worth paying to have those done. I'll probably handle the next toilet install myself, but glad I've got one done so I can use that bathroom. All totalled, it was $365 including parts. That's $85 less than the other company wanted just to do the gas! Glad I got some different estimates.

You might want to have the work checked out by a house inspector. I am sure you had one inspect the entire house when you purchased it, maybe ask that guy to come back and inspect the work that was done, it is worth it to not have something go wrong and end up costing more later.

  4. I am also opposed 100% to the types of "community" organizations that obama has been involved with because they drain funds into "black holes" (opps can I use that "racial term") and there is never any real results......which is why all the areas obama "organized" are worse off now than ever before......he failed then and he will fail us all if elected with stupid "toss money at the issue" type solutions that fail to do anything as has been proven by the hundreds of community organizations that he and his supporters have been involved with in areas that are ever more quickly declining

So he is a black muslim Bush?

  5. Let see. McCain has been a Federal legislator/senator since 1982. Again he has a REAL history that can be tracked very easily. Obama? Not so much.

Real history? how does Obama not have real history, do you mean political history? He has political history, it just isn't all Washington political history.

Obama's history is just as traceable as McCain's, you just have to look for it.

  6. This all comes back to the fact that we pretty much know what we are getting with McCain, like it or not, but no one really knows what the hell we are getting with Obama. Muslim? Christian? Manchurian candidate? Who the hell knows for sure?

Why does it matter? This isn't The United States of Religion's... It is The United States of America, and the last time I checked we had some concept of "Separation of Church and State". Maybe if and when we get the Christian hand out of American politics' this country will make a turn for the better.

  7. He did attend a Muslim school for a few months as he also attended a catholic school as well. When his parents met his father was not a practicing Muslim and his mother was atheist. Growing up as a child his mother had the Bible, Koran and Bhagavad-Gita on his bookshelves at home among other spiritual books, not so much as religious tools but for intellectual tools.

(Oh and I am not a Obama supporter, nor a McCain supporter)

Why does it matter as to what religion he practices? I mean come on, it isn't like he left his ailing wife for a rich pretty one.

  8. The American government has become this colossus amoeba of offices and departments making it so complex that it basically is "dumbing down" America with regards to our government. Today, as I see it there are two America's: The people of America and The American Government (which is basically run by corporations).

Maybe if the government went back to the KISS method, most people would be inclined to become more involved and active.

  9. I heard something pretty funny today. Howard Stern had a commentator interviewing Obama voters in Harlem. He was asking if they supported Obama's views but attributed all of McCain's views in for Obama's, and the people all agreed with Obama even though the views stated were all of McCain's. For instance, he asked, do you support Obama's pro-life views and his support for keeping troops in Iraq? (which is not what Obama is for). They all basically said yes.

    Here is the kicker.:

Commentator: If he (Obama) wins would you have any problem with Sarah Palin being Vice-President?

The person responded with: No I wouldn't, not at all.

Commentator: You think he made the right choice on that?

The person responded with: I definitely do.

Goes to show that some people shouldn't be able to vote in our country

  10. They are looking to sell some, if not all of Greenway. I think 6 Houston is on hold as there is no work active right now on the project.

The refinancing of 5 Houston Center has been approved. (GlobeSt.com) I wonder if this will affect the securing of financing for 6 HC.
Not sure, but Crescent doesn't own 5 Houston, Well's Reit does.
  11. How is it better for traffic though? Won't that make it harder for buses to merge into traffic?

I think it is nice that they are putting trees down Dallas Street though.

10/17/08 update. Wow I went by around lunch and they literally planted the trees in the street along with some little bumps in the road.

  12. As far as I know (I used to work in this building) the balconies are not usable. I've looked at them many times out of my window and always wondered what purpose they served. They are very small with a tiled floor. The only time I saw them utilized was by a window washing crew.

Film crews use them as well to take views of the city I guess.

FYI this building has public access up to the 50th floor or so, whatever the top floor is from the first set of elevators. There's a sign up there that says "No public access beyond this point" for the next set of elevators, so I take that to translate to "Public access UNTIL this point" haha

Anyway, its not a big observation deck or anything but there is a window you can look out and over Allen Parkway. Its a pretty neat view!

You are correct. That is a transfer floor for the 51,52, and 53 floor. My mom use to have a lawfirm on those floors. If I remember correctly there is also an Arab Bank on the 50th Floor where you have to be buzzed in.
