  1. CMI stands for Carnegie Management Inc. The address is in a bank building in Williamsburg Brooklyn. None of that is glamorous but you never know. It seems most of their business is tenant management all over NYC. I tried sending an email to the email address listed but it was bounced back as 'undeliverable'. There is another CMI in Houston (Central Management) but at a different website. https://cmirealestate.com/ I don't think that they are related. This project seems very much out of the ordinary for what I could find out about CMI Brooklyn. In size and complexity and location. It doesn't mean that they couldn't do it but I'd lean more towards the possibility that they are buying the property for a private trust or the like. My hopes are high but my expectations are very tempered.
  2. It was open this evening (Jan 12) with people inside, when I passed by.
  3. I must have been right behind you. I spoke to one of the workers and asked if the building was coming down and he said yes. I asked what was next and he just shrugged his shoulders.
  4. Scaffolding still up, but to this untrained eye, it looks complete.
  5. According to documents recently filed to the Harris County Clerk's office, the parcel where JW Marriott Hotel Downtown Houston is located has been sold. The building is also known as S.F. Carter Second National Bank Building. Documents indicate SWVPHouston Hotel LLC acquired the hotel property at 806 Main. SWVPHouston Hotel LLC is an entity of Southwest Value Partners, a San Diego-based real estate investment company. A termination agreement was also filed this month between Marriott Hotel and AVR Houston 806 Main Street LLC, a JW Marriott franchisee and previous property owner of 806 Main St. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/22874-jw-marriott-hotel-downtown-at-806-main-st/?do=findComment&comment=667033
  6. I think the issue is the rodeo. I think I've read that they have contractual rights to the property during the entirety of the rodeo. And the astrodome has Texas Historic designation. It's not going anywhere.
  7. I couldn't find any posting about the Downtown Holiday Inn on Main, so this is sort of related to the above mural. Feel free to move this post if this is in the wrong place. Anyway, a brightening of the area.
  8. Pretty much all of the scaffolding is down. Disappointed to see the broken windows. I almost hope it was a construction mishap and not vandalism.
  9. There was some activity at the long abandoned commercial structure at 2020 Travis. Workers just said that they were "cleaning it out", but they were taking down all the ceiling light fixture and pretty much everything inside. Anyone know what might be going on here?
  10. This is the story from almost three years ago (pre Covid, in a different world) http://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/12-30-19-new-food-halls-conservatory-eado-galleria-railway-heights-market-hawker-asian-market-midtown-company-of-nomads-anh-mai/
  11. Pre Covid, I think this same group announced plans to open an Asian street food court in the old Greensheets Building on Main and McGowen. Is that concept still out there or is this project taking over for that?
  12. Closer up look at the crushed rock being spread.
  13. My understanding is that the plan is to have most of the buildings privately developed under the project urban design guidelines. And last I saw of that, the guidelines are largely aimed at the sidewalk environment (the first 3 floors or so of the building). I don't believe that there are minimum or maximum height requirements (but I'm not sure about that). And I'm very confident that the endowment will not be throwing around a lot more money for Ion. There has been a significant start up investment and the project will eventually have to start rewarding the University.
  14. This is embarrassing. I always thought that the "Kinder Footpath" was a child-friendly walkway. Oops
  15. I walk by there on occasion. It's in pretty bad condition, though I don't know if it's just lack of maintenance or real structural issues. Taking it down MAY be a safety concern.
