^^^ beautifully articulated. perfectly eloquent....
Thank you ! I agree totally and couldn't have said it any better ! Let's hope the national media - news, sports, Hollywood, retail, "get's it" soon and realizes what they've all been missing for decades by discounting Houston so much in the past.
Cheers to HOUSTON !!!

good god astoria is hideous.
I totally agree. But, it would be much more attractive if they removed that god-awful crown thingy at the top. Should be easy enough to do. Consider this my own personal request to the owner of the building to fix this and soon ! Please.

I just have to comment at this point -
seems like the glass outer shell is taking AGES to get done in an area with tons of available construction "man" power available ? Shortage of glass ? Maybe problems with delivery of the product by the manufacturer ?
609 Main has only been U/C for a while longer, yet is almost finished with the cladding, despite being about 10 times as massive. Just my two cents.

-A central plaza styled like those in Europe and Latin America. A fountain?
-Need light rail extension to it maybe stemming from the green line, buses too.
-Integrate the bayou. Restaurants and cafes right on it, but try to limit chains.
-A big public market like Pikes Place in Seattle.
-Use native trees and plants. No palm trees!
-Mix modern/contemporary architecture with the warehouse brick look of the east end. No stucco or beige!
-Use arches, we don't have enough of those. And incorporate them into ground floor retail and restaurants.
-A clock tower that you can climb up to for the hell of it.
-I'm not sure if the development goes across the bayou as well, but if it does, a signature bridge. Something with charm.
-And lastly, make it a development where all sorts of people can go have fun, play local music, and interact. No matter how awesome it is, we don't need another river oaks district.
I agree NO PALM TREES ! So tired of seeing those in the central, northern and western parts of the city where they are NOT NATIVE. It isn't Galveston and will never be.

The 11-story parking garage is included in the 40-story floor count. You can tell by counting the floors in the renderings.
Ah, okay, thanks for the correction. Still 40 stories is pretty tall though. Looking forward to one or two supertalls someday downtown

The Ziegler Cooper description suggests a 34-story tower now. The rendering still puts it about the same height as the Hess building. I have to wonder how keen Trammell Crow would actually be to move forward.
Actually, they also mention an 11 story parking garage underneath? If that's the case, then it will be about 45 floors in total, no ?

The live cam also has a link to a timelapse video on the top right that is definitely worth checking out. Very cool to see how the basement was done and built on to.
Wow, thanks for the link. What an awesome time lapse cam ! I also love that get a bonus construction view of that huge high rise going up to the upper left side of the angle, I'm guessing west or northwest of the museum construction site. Well done thank you !!

Is this the construction starting on the 38-story residential portion or just the parking garage ? Would be awesome if they were starting the high rise construction already !

Are they down to about one pane of glass per day?
was about to ask the same thing. seems like since they got to the crown, the glass has been almost "on hold" for now. maybe they are finishing up interior stuff and structure on top before closing it all in at once ? just a thought. awesome building though.

I have the same question - is there some sort of recent rendering of this "tower" ? Would love to find out if my wishful thinking of a real skyscraper would be realized, but not counting on it
