Something is afoot on that lot today, but I cannot tell using the 609 cam.

Alessandra first, block 334 second, HSPVA eventually

Hope it is built soon. It will be a few feet shorter than the domed county building in the foreground. It will enhance the eastern skyline view. With all the new apartments/hotels should get this area hopping. Can't imagine retail is too far behind.

Emporis place 1,2, 3 as The Huntington 503 ft, OPP 501 ft, and Market Square Tower 498 ft. Other numbers take into account feet above mean sea level, I think.

Might become Houston's Avenue Montaigne.

I think you are on to something

Basketball practice facility not arena. View is quite good

From a construction cam at U of H ( new basketball arena) the Marriott is visible. Suppose so will the Catalyst and the other high rise apartment north of MM park as well as block 98.
-
The Catalyst is approx 60 ft shorter than the Marriott Marquis ( according to Emporis). How visible is the hotel from the Eastex or Gulf freeways?

Now that Gator Purify mentions it, one of the things that puzzles me about Houston with its near Tropical climate is the number of darkish buildings and houses and roofs. It seems a more southern Spain or Greece light color buildings would work better in terms heat reflection. I guess it all comes out to what sells.

Yes it would look great. Give it a downtown Chicago look. To get a good before and after, watch the opening scene of Urban Cowboy. Quite a contrast.

H-Town man. Check out the little photo beneath the Full Member. I think that is it.

Maybe we will get lucky and the University of Kansas at Lawrence will open an institute here. Bring some class. Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

I agree with HoustonIsHome. As much as I love living in the suburbs , I hope the TMC does not suburbanize. Have all those research institutes and medical facilities within walking distance is truly great. It creates an academic electricity to the area. I hope it stays that way. I have a feeling that this UT research facility will only be partially biomed so I do not see it as causing suburbanization of TMC. It is most likely going to be a sore spot for UH ambitions to become a top tier research university. Academic waters tend to be shark infested.

Cold Meds worn off. This is what I understand to be happening.
The UT Research Campus is not part of the Texas Medical Center, but independent of it. Scientific research of all types will be conducted there as in any major university. The Texas Medical Center announced in September plans for a thirty acre development near OST and the bayou called TMC3. Then of course there is all the other projects with Texas Childrens and Hermann Memorial etc.
Tough to keep up with all this. I feel for the folks in Dubai.

So this is not the collaborative research facilities the TMC president calls TMC3? This is something completely different, correct? There is so much construction and planned construction in Houston it can make my head spin. Maybe it's the cold meds.

Someone please clear something up for me. I did biomed research for several years at UT Medical school at theTMC. There are numerous UT facilities throughout the med center, many conducting research. It looks very impressive but what is the purpose? How would this be integrated with the core of the TMC? Is it anywhere near the rail line?

For stray cats to leave their "artwork"? Just a thought.

Did I miss the statement on the groundbreaking date?
Another Haifer on another forum , I believe the Fairfield apartment forum, said that soon Main St. will be lined from the bayou to I-69 with midrises or highrises. I believe he is essentially correct. What a difference from the wasteland it was two decades ago.

I think you are right. The original proposal is 489 ft. If this stops at 499 ft. I am calling Adrian Monk.

Over 25 years ago a book was written tongue in cheek called the Nine Nations of North America. Houston was labeled a crossroad between three nations: The Breadbasket, Dixie, and Mex-America. Despite the jest there are elements of truth to this observation. This area is also considered a biological crossroad due to its assortment of eastern and western vegetation and being the upper northern boundary of tropical vegetation. This may partially explain the difficulty of giving our metro area a cute label. It may also explain our variety of, well, everything including architecture. Our topography may be boring, but very little else.

Very impressive. Has a groundbreaking been announced?
