This isn't talking about the Atlantic Coffee building. It's talking about a smaller one north of Canal.

Yep, this needs a new thread. Happy to hear something happening at Norwood St. though- it's a cool building.

Thank y'all for talking me down off of the ledge. This is basically on Navigation about 8-10 blocks east of Lockwood.

I keep seeing "100 miles per hour" in practically every news report about this. I've seen the video, and pictures of the vehicle after the crash, and I'm skeptical that any vehicle could even approach that speed on a street as narrow and congested as that section of Westheimer. Also, as bad as the vehicle damage looks, I'd have expected it to be much worse following a 100 mph impact.

So has there been anything to substantiate that number, or is this just another instance of "if it bleeds, it leads" on the part of the media, where someone decided that a nice big round number was a good enough estimate to get more page views on their website?

They were basically driving one of the few vehicles where it is at least feasible. Current gen 911 Turbo S does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. 0-100 in 5.1 seconds and it takes about 400 ft.

The crosswalk on the westbound side of Weshtimer/Montrose to the crosswalk at Waugh (right before Voodoo) is 440'.  So even from a stop they could have been doing 100 MPH. From a 30 or 40 MPH roll it would have been pretty easy to get to 100. Of course you'd have to be insane or drunk and just stomp it because you probably aren't making the turn, but it is feasible.

    No...it's not.

That's a drainage spillway in the photo.

Well... that's awkward. You are totally right. I took one of Hindesky's other drone shots and marked where it will actually be:

The X is the approximate location of the drainage spillway and the red line is the alignment with Gregg, so it is quite a bit further down.

Yes- plus I've always  why Metro purchased buses that are wider than some lanes of traffic along Westheimer.

Normal cars are wider than the lanes on Westheimer. It is kind of crazy to me to think that an agency as big as Metro would buy a bus specific for one section of one route that is slightly narrower than allowed.

Especially when the plan is to remove that substandard sized lane.

  5. Sorry, just realized I bumped a thread with no activity for almost a year without an actual update.

I ride my bike by this site every day on the way to/from work and I don't think I've seen a single iota of activity.

Edit: they are also going to need to plat, so we'll get a plat well before any real construction sites if anything does start to happen.

Rumored practice facility? Probably not but it would make more sense than Clear Lake as mentioned in the article.

We can squash this possible rumor.

New practice facility going up in the Galleria area

Anyone know what "future Delano bridge crossing" references?

Delano is on the Major Thoroughfare & Freeeway Plan to be widened to become an 80' Major Collector (double lines on the map below are to-be-widened).

In order to cross the rail tracks and Harrisburg a bridge is needed.

There are no imminent plans to do so, but it is something to be considered.

There's a parking variance in for this site.

Exiting 6,223 sq ft structure for retail/restaurant use. Signs are up.

Required parking is 49 spots and they are requesting to have 28.

Being heard at the April 13 Planning Commission meeting.

If you'd like to give your commentary, email: speakercomments.pc@houstontx.gov

As mentioned above, the item was deferred by the planning commission and will be heard next week.

The public comment packet showed almost exclusively comments against granting the parking variance.

It is really easy to submit a public comment. Just include a name and your quick thoughts here: speakercomments.pc@houstontx.gov

Just mention 2711 Harrisburg Parking Variance

  9. This is the nearly 1 acre parcel along the Harrisburg Trail. Trees in the lot were started to be cleared with some machinery on site.

I ride my bike along the trail to work most days, so I think they started yesterday

This is the design from the final plat which was recorded in Sept of last year:

    image.png.c64d7e47f5f39e0a4a1b5c24bf4d67b6.png

The reserve in the SE corner is for drainage/open space.

I'm hoping that they embrace the trail with their design even though they have a few front-loaders. Lot #19 with the hitch in order to have trail frontage is hopefully a good sign, but only 5 homes will have frontage along the trail.

The lots along Sherman are all about 1,460 sq ft, and the internal lots vary between 1,600 and 2,800.

I'll snap a few pics on my ride home today.

Does anyone know when it will be decided if apartments will be built?

I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure that is all that they build.

This site is about 50% bigger than The Exchange from Hardy Yards which has 300 units with 151 of them being affordable.

    https://affordablehousinghouston.com/stores/red-line-station-apartments-the-exchange/

3800 Main is about 1/3 of the size and has 319 units (161 affordable): https://www.3800main.com/

I'm personally hoping for something like a 4-5 story building with some retail options.

Are you referring to 318 Sampson St that's on the corner of Sampson St and Preston St? It's the lot across from New Hope Housing at 3315 Harrisburg Blvd.

If that's not it, can you provide an address or cross streets?

That is the plat that I was talking about.

They recorded the plat last fall:

    Vx3GmwV.png

At one point the name that they supplied for the plat was Champs Pizza.

This parcel is not part of the Concept Neighborhood project, so while it is possible they would go here, it would make more sense to me that they would end up in all of the hundreds of thousands of sq ft of planned development immediately next to this. But that is purely a guess.

Edit: Sent Angie's a message on Instagram. We'll see if they reply.
