Correct. Original name of Chase Tower was Texas Commerce.

I have always had these feelings about the GRB. Inside and out. The reaffirmations are even worse when I see the park u/c in front of it. I always thought it would grow on me but the more I see it I always wonder what was the architect thinking with such a high profile building. The building is not even forward thinking for the year it was built in and I never understood those red circle vents on the outside of it. The most frighteningthing aspect is how they cloned the original design just a few years ago.

I guess that's when Covenant House feeds the animals.

Well of course, there are people moving in and out of the loop everyday. Of course these new developments are geared towards the Dual/Double/Disposable Income No Kids people, so in some areas the density change may not be as drastic.

I was doing some calculating, and it seems like if most of these developments go through, Oaks District, West Ave, Hardy, Sonoma, Regent Square, and high street (innerloop mixed use), and they are pretty successful with filling up, it can add about 12,000 new residents (give or take a few) alone to the innerloop by 2012 atleast.

I know you just posted the article, and I get annoyed myself when people ask this when news just breaks, but is their a possibility that there is a rendering for this one. Only reason I am asking, I feel I have seen it before. There are just too many renderings for TMC projects that are actually breaking ground, it is hard to keep track of 'em.

edit: nevermind, this sounds like a new one. Methodist has a similar building currently being built for the same purposes.

Not wide like some commercial streets or the sidewalks in downtown or most of the TMC, but more narrow sidewalks. For example:

Some of the stores may be visable from the sidewalk, but you still have to walk inside the lobby area I believe to enter. If you are familiar with the Calpine Center in downtown, it is built the same way. I guess if they made the retail more inviting, they would have to make too many sidewalk alterations for aesthetic purposes. If you haven't noticed, some of the sidewalks on the northside of the Medical Center around the Hermann station are like neighborhood sidewalks.

Yes, they are kind of hidden. Some are actually in the skywalk. Some deli place is suppose to be opening up. Also a Walgreens and Starbucks will be opening on the first floor.

Good stuff Jax. Glad to know they have a market in Houston and it is amazing that the first tower sold out so quickly. Maybe they can settle in other hot areas and do the same.

That sign has been there for ages. Lovett and Mixed Used sounds funny anyway.

Though many of us would like to see a centrally located stadium, a suburban location would be closer to the fanbase.

I agree, but maybe I am bias since I believe stadiums are the worse "infill" ever. The stadiums and convention center do just as much damage as 59 sitting there in my opinion as far as the community being cut off.

I definitely hope this would mix all four uses. The way that Mandarin has hotels opening in Chicago, Dallas, Boston, and Las Vegas in the next two years has me hoping. Especially when looking at the Chicago and Dallas designs with the same concept.

I have to admit I have never been attracted to the actual park at Market Square. I think one thing is the view that is from the "square". It feels to open if that makes sense. Do a flickr seacrh of "market square houston" to see what I mean. Adding more mature trees wouldn't hurt either. Not just on the square but on the sidewalks that are in the vicinity of the sqaure. Too much concrete is visible from that place. Baldwin Park in Midtown has a more enclosed feel than Market Square.

Of course we do, but it would be nice if developers did not half step the many projects coming to this part of downtown, so we can see it at its full potential. One Park Place, could have had a better design of course, is at its full potential IMO. Although I would have had the small grocery facing the park instead of the opposite side of the building.

I echo the comments about the people who said this park would not have an impact on future development of the area and an "evolving" park would have been better. :closedeyes: Nice to see so much is happening before construction is even finished. That part of downtown already looks totally different and better from a couple of months ago. Exciting stuff.

You got to start somewhere with retail though. I'm sick of seeing just another pretty structure in downtown that does nothing for the vibrancy of the community. Something that killed our downtown during the building boom and removed dozens of blocks like the block at Preston Station where St Pete's sits. No point in going to that area if all you are going to walk by our walls with an entrance for employees only.

I think they are talking about where the West Building is. Hopefully no one touches the recently renovated Stowers building.

i noticed two new buildings under construction at TMC yesterday. i have not been able to figure out which one is the really tall building with cranes still on top. i've perused this thread twice and still not identified which one it might be. i forgot to bring my camera. this building looks to be more than 25 stories and appears to be, sort of, in the middle of the medical center. can someone put 2 and 2 together for me? thanks.
