  1. Thanks Crockpot, I had no idea and apparently missed the prior discussion.
  2. Ah, that's because you're a youngster, Tiger. When III opened, it was the "luxurious" wing. Galleria I & II were nothing special, other than the ice rink and the red velvet carpeted theater. III came along, with the marble decked out Macy's, and set the foundation for the more upscale oriented direction the Galleria turned in the 80s. Of course, the "luxury" aspect of III went right out the window when Sheer Insanity and Gadzook's opened up in the wing. The sales staff and management sure didn't care much for us long-haired, undesirable types meandering through their precious Marshall Field's in route to Galleria III back then, lol. On a side note, I kind of find it amazing there are so many people in here calling for the demo of Joske's. The oldest, most historical building out there, and you guys want to drop it. Good Lord, if the bastards at Dillard's would clean up the old girl, I think people would see it in a very different light. That building, at one time, only played second fiddle to San Antonio's HQ, within the Joske's chain. To raze it altogether is about as ridiculous as taking down an amusement park and leaving it to become an overgrown pasture. Thank goodness the developers restoring the Cheek & Neal Coffee Building in East End didn't have the same viewpoint.
  3. http://4-traders.com/WHOLE-FOODS-MARKET-INC-4930/news/Whole-Foods-Market-More-retail-development-on-Yale-Street-21563615/ Never mind, I finally found something about it. Whole Foods is going in across the freeway from Church's.
  4. Has anyone noticed the Church's on 27th and Yale has closed? I was talking to a business owner there on Yale, who is also a longtime friend having grown up with him in Sunset Heights, who said the clinic next door is closing at the end of the month and both buildings will be demolished for a new Sunset Heights Whole Foods Market. He is certainly not one to make things up. He recently received a healthy offer for his own business, which takes up half a block of Yale, and rejected it outright. Laughed it off, saying he's too young to retire. I've done some digging around and I see nothing on the internet that confirms or even mentions this apparent future for the east side of Yale between East 27th & 28th. I suppose we'll know when and if the clinic closes, that something is truly up. Anyone with access to who ownership knowledge of the old Church's property is, or the clinic next door, notice any recent changes? Edit to add: address for Church's is 2702 Yale.
  5. No, no, I wasn't clear. Same owner, all three are owned by and operate as "sister" stations. To my knowledge, the Christian Center owns 100% of all three translators, and unless something has changed recently, Guevara also owns K291CE 106-1 Hum FM. Rehan Siddiqui simply leases that facility from the Christian Center. Also to note: Pastor Guevara also owns the current K297BT Sealy, which has so far made the 60 mile journey east down I-10 from Columbus to this point. The latest proposal is to again move the translator further east, changing channels once again, now proposing to use channel 300 (107-9) from a transmit site just outside of Simonton. You know, where sister translator K291CE started its life as K294BH on 106-7. I have my doubts this will ever work, with El Norte operating at 90kW from just east of Houston. On paper, it fits. In a real world application, it remains to be seen if K297BT can co-exist with KQQK on the same frequency, but given the past experiences with KQLC-LP trying to do the same from Brookshire with no success, it doesn't look good for this latest facility making the attempt.
  6. Reported by Mike McGuff on his blog yesterday. Ruben's last day on air at KPRC will be this Friday, as he returns to work in California. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2016/03/ruben-galvan-leaving-kprc-2-california.html?m=1
  7. Interesting article regarding Tribune's apparent desire to restructure, or even shed itself of its 42 licensed O&O television stations. On a local level, our own CW 39 would be a part of any divesture. Speculation on who might have the means to acquire the Tribune group, or what it may mean for the future of channel 39?
  8. You were kicked out for following me? I didn't realize I had that kind of space reserved within their management's psyche. That's it, dwindle those numbers over there even more. Pretty soon, they can re-hang the closed for business sign. Since there's apparently someone over there threatened enough by my departure to keep track of my movement over here, I'll say one last thing, and never mention the other community again. If what the community has become, was Streamline's vision for it when they purchased everything from Diana Fleming, it would've been better off had they simply left the doors shuttered, and stepped aside allowing Lance and his crew to pick up the baton and run. Now, there's two splintered boards; neither of which even come close to the sheer volume of activity and participation that the original Radio-Info once enjoyed regularly. Anyway, 98-7 has added some new music, but I recall a mention or two that they were to have launched the new format last week. So where is it? How much testing does this translator actually need?
  9. KDHU-LD is the call for Houston's very own Channel 7, which filed for its license to cover way back in December 2010. But where is it? There is NO channel 7 in Houston over the air, or digital. Is this a ghost? Has anyone ever witnessed KDHU-LD available for viewing on your set? There is a granted CP on file to increase the power of KDHU-LD to 3kW, but I don't believe that it has ever come to light with its currently licensed 0.3kW. Any OTA confirmation of KDHU-LD 7 would be most appreciated. http://fccdata.org/?facid=167020
  10. This is another translator for Centro Cristiano de Vida Eterna, aka Latino Broadcasting Corporation, which filed for its license to cover on December 18th, 2015. Centro Cristiano co-owns "La Nueva 94-1" K231CN and "La Mejor 104-5" K283CH, with this latest translator in Alvin licensed to rebroadcast KTBZ-FM as its sister La Mejor currently does. The issue that has arisen, is that no one I have talked with has ever heard 105-3 on the air. I have been on the south side of Houston this past week and found nothing but a weak KXXF Winnie coming through on ch. 287. Can anyone on the south or SW side of Houston confirm a Spanish language Christian format on 105-3 FM? I believe we may have a phantom radio station amongst us...
  11. http://fccdata.org/?facid=156386 As noted in the FCC database, Juan Alberto Ayala's K255CV filed for a License to Cover on February 22nd, licensed to retransmit KODA-Houston directly off the air. Given the engineering difficulties of directly receiving KODA on 256 in Beaumont, is this translator actually on the air in the Golden Triangle? If so, what is it broadcasting? Much like our own pending 105-3 translator from Alvin, I have a hunch that the facility has a license to cover, however is unable to cover anything as it remains completely off the air.
  12. Wow, guys...I am truly touched by the kind thoughts and words. Thank you, mrtejano. It has been amazing over the past week since that incident occurred, as I have received a number of emails and PMs from several folks that I've known from over there, expressing their support of me leaving, thanking me for my many years of contributions there. I just never knew people trusted and followed my writings that closely. I always tried to maintain my reputation of telling the truth, or at least what I believed to be the truth, and showing my fellow posters the respect that they deserve. Stan, welcome! Amigo, you KNOW I'm always good for talking some Golden Triangle shop and welcome anything & everything you can throw at us from your area. If you'd do me a favor, and pass a note along to Chris, I'd appreciate it. I didn't get the chance to drop him a line, as upset as I was about the handling of that situation. Oh well, it's water under the bridge. Here is where I am, here's where the new home for the latest released information concerning Houston, B-PA, and B-CS radio facilities will be, and God (and the HAIF editor) willing, one day this thing will be such a go-to for us radio enthusiasts and regular listeners, that we'll see the Houston Radio Information Forum birthed from the HAIF. I'm certainly willing to do everything I can to provide a truly free and open radio discussion, free of belittling, chastising, and speech/thought controlling. It doesn't matter if you work in radio or not to me, and it certainly doesn't give those that currently do, a right to look down their nose at those who don't. We all love and respect the medium; what we don't agree with the industry insiders on is the direction it is currently facing. The main thing I need is you guys to check in periodically, and just talk with me to keep the conversations flowing, and uh...tell a friend where we are! Heck, tell them all!

That is too funny, mkultra. I just replaced my side by side fridge last month. Carried the old fridge out to the curb and left it. Within 10 minutes, there's a woman out there removing every bit of shelving out of it, the ice maker, and the door trays. I mean, she stripped it clean. Within another half hour, here comes two guys in a beat up old Chevy with an even more beat up trailer behind it, and they don't even bother opening it up. Two seconds and it's off the curb, loaded up, and they're hopping back in the truck. I tell you what, I never saw that efficient of disposal service up in Camden Park, but here in Acres Home, it's a whole other ballgame.
  14. There was indeed a Mount Houston, if the oldtimers from my childhood were to believed. At some point in history, excavators were used to level it. Now, I was too young back then to really pay attention to what the details were and, of course, that generation has all gone to a better place, but I know that unless they were all telling a whopper of a lie that there was indeed a Mount Houston at one time. Perhaps it was a salt dome that once existed out there? On a somewhat related note, I can personally attest to a completely unrelated Mount in Houston. Actually, I guess it'd still be a part of Copperfield. I haven't been out there in years, but where West Road used to come to an end at Barker-Cypress, there was a large mountain of earth there. Not a man made pile of dirt, instead it was a naturally formed mound. You could see it from a good distance away, given the development out there was still pretty sparse.
  15. There are numerous licensees here in Houston, that have construction permits to build facilities, yet have not done so as of yet. Most of these tend to be Spanish language Christian formats, but there are certainly other offerings coming to light. If you're looking for something a little bigger scale, try Salem Communications here in Houston, and speak with Chuck Tiller. Super guy, and he would be able to point you in the right direction concerning any available opportunities. Good luck, fireguy!
  16. I've noticed that K254BZ has lost something since its sign on. These last couple of days, it has taken interference from next door neighbor La Raza, which it had not had issues with before at this location. The facility is licensed for directional, as Joe stated, facing Needville. I think there may have been some adjustments made at the tower site recently. On a personal note, I'd like to say thanks to the both of you for coming over here to visit me. Please, pull up a comfy chair and make yourself at home. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, I will be doing everything I can to ensure that the HAIF will become the new home for the latest radio moves and deals in Southeast Texas. With ol' Blue Dogs (he's a longtime member here) covering television, combined what we will do for the radio boards here at the HAIF, this can very well be the go-to spot for all things broadcasting related in Houston, Beaumont, Huntsville, B/CS and in between. I just need you guys assistance. No way I can accomplish this alone.

Am I just that deep in the hood, or what? In this neighborhood, we just put them out on the curb and watch them find a new home in all of 15 minutes.
  18. Glad to see you, SeƱor! Welcome to the HAIF. I haven't heard the announcements on KSBJ, however there have been several mentions of the impending acquisition of 91-7 since the deal was made and the license reassignment was made public. KSBJ announced a June launch for NGEN on the current KUHA, or whatever they come up with for a new callset on 91-7.
  19. The face of Independence Heights is changing, huh? Don't drive up to the car wash on Crosstimbers, between Main & Yale, and inform the regular patrons/loiterers about that. They just might want to change your face, lol. In all seriousness, you are correct, there is a significant increase of new development in Studewood. Excuse me, Independence Heights. It's all well and good, until new development starts replacing Flying Saucer, the Mexicatessen/Landa Cafe, Lee'n Food Mkt., Church's Chicken, or BBQ Inn. That's when the proverbial fan gets splattered with us older, more established residents of Studewood...
  20. If you're ever unhappy with one of our tires, just bring it back. Thank you. Discount Tire Company.
  21. Hey, thanks for the kind words, Tiger. I enjoy your contributions around here too, and the tireless effort you put forth in connecting the dots of Houston retail and railroad history. I wish I had the spare time to tirelessly research history the way you do. I am quite envious, lol.
  22. Lol, I wouldn't say the old Kenedy line was very "active", but at least it was used enough to keep the rail rust to a minimum. It was only a matter of time that it went away, after the UP/SP merger, but I always had a soft spot for the Kenedy seeing as how it still possessed the old Griswold manufactured signals in many places, and just seemed stuck in the past, even up to the late 90s when the line was removed. You know, there's a picture of the Kenedy just west of 59, that shows how little SP updated the line. When the transit center was built, the City abandoned a road right in front of it that used to dump out on Westpark. Road was completely removed, and so was the grade crossing, but the two crossbuck signals remained and still worked all the way up to the abandonment of the line...sans the arms and a couple of burned out bulbs.
  23. Heh, no... I had to have one of my GSAs explain to me what Snapchat was just the other day. Imagine that conversation with a 21yo young lady... "Mr. Joe, I'm so hurt." "What happened, Tammy?" "I really like this guy, I posted pics on my Snapchat and he didn't like them!" "He told you he didn't like your pictures? Not a good first impression, Tammy." "No, no...he didn't LIKE them. You're supposed to like the pictures that I post by pressing the like button...and he didn't! That's why I'm hurt! You don't Snapchat?" "Afraid not. I still haven't bothered to learn the ins and outs of MySpace, let alone Snapchat." "Oh my God, Mr. Joe, NO ONE uses MySpace anymore!" "Nor the telephone for making an actual voice call, Tammy." Talk about a massive generation gap! Facebook I have absolutely no use for. I'm certainly not detailing the blow by blow of my daily life, and frankly don't really care about what other people are doing every minute of their day either. My time is plenty full dealing with the day to day of my own life! I sent you a PM, Joe.
  24. Interesting. I had thought the strip center now residing there was the old Sears building repurposed along the lines of the old Katy Fwy @ Dairy Ashford K-Mart. I was always dragged to the North Shepherd store, for Mom's Sears shopping needs. She grew up on the East End on Adams. Absolutely despised the Harrisburg Sears, and she'd never say why. I remember the old building was quite grand as we'd pass it in route to visit my Aunt's on Ave Q & 103rd, down past Manchester, and assumed that the building had been altered to the current cheap looking strip it is now.
  25. Purchase price for KUHA 91-7 and the associated 91-3 translator in West U is $10 million, pending FCC approval. http://www.ksbj.org/pages/ngensignal
