Hooray! Thanks for the update.
-
Anyone else notice the steel bones going up on the south west side near the parking garage? I didn't have time to get a good look when I drove by, so I hope someone else can snap a pic.

Don't worry, gents. With Mexico's reform of its energy sector, Texas should see even more O&G growth.

hey chick, indeed!

2401 Main getting closer to being a habitable environ. Sorry for the flash shot against the glass, but that's the only way I could get anything to show up.
-
There's scaffolding up on the corner with the "CENTRAL" letters on the facade.
-
This section on Main is a hot spot so I've two updates in one post:
The bar/lounge next to Capitol Bar is getting framed out, definitely showing progress now.
The former school across from Alexan Midtown is almost completely gutted
BUUUUUUT... it looks like they've changed the applicant on the TABC notice. I hope this doesn't cause any delays or change the concept from that awesome rendering I was shown.

Here's a panorama shot of the corner on Main next to the car dealership. About half way down the property along Main is a large square pit I assume to be a future elevator shaft, which mean they're about to pour the foundation for the GAME CHANGING gfr!

Taken today.
Note the notches on the back side.... and the plot thickens.

Here's what will replace the building that was torn down:

Maybe one of the guys at 2016 can take an overhead shot and we can get a better idea of what they're doing.
-
If you look closely at the floor with the No Trespassing sign, you can see that the notches don't run across the floor and look to be a 6-12 inch square. To me, this further confirms that they will be used to anchor the windows/facade.
They run completely across the slab though; my first thought was some sort of raised plinth floor from which the new HVAC/IT services would be run through. I'll try to snap some pictures this afternoon from the base of the bldg.

Snapped this today and talked to one of the guys behind the project. The conceptual renderings he showed me look amazing, but this will be a really cool project even if it's half as nice as what's planned.
edit: Sorry for taking this picture with a potato... (2301 Main St. - Suede Lounge, LP)

Thanks for the update. It looks like the construction start date is still moving to the right.
"...In addition to green space improvements, the district reported on upcoming construction work slated for Caroline Street. The Midtown Redevelopment Authority is funding the $9 million project with help from a $4 million Texas Department of Transportation grant.
The work will include complete roadway reconstruction with new concrete pavement and public utility upgrades along Caroline from Pierce to Holman streets. There will also be sidewalk improvements including new landscaping and a designated bike lane.
Large, an avid cyclist, said the proposed bike path will be marked with green paint and will be the first such bike route in Houston.
Marshall said the project is set to be put out for bid in December or January with construction to follow later next year."

These were the new notches that I was referring to:
edit... The progress from one picture to another is AMAZING!

I guess the notches on the lower levels are part of the window install??
Today by me

I was wondering the same thing since the rendering doesn't show windows on that side. It makes sense though, with the clear view to the south.
Ah! So they will be putting windows on that facade? That should turn out quite lovely!
Thanks! -
Thanks for verifying what I thought was a delusion. I've only driven by at night the last few days and wanted to be sure before posting an update.
The side with the scaffolding, theyre removing that entire wall/tiles. You can see through the building to the scaffolding from 45.

In true Midtown fashion, there is a guy sleeping on the sidewalk in the streetview you listed. Do you have any other info on the remodel? Is there a TABC application on the door?
2301 Main is currently being remodeled into a bar.
It's called GAGE. http://www.gagelounge.com/
What's it called?
-
There's a new bar/lounge that's opened up in the old barcadia spot across from the superblock. I never heard anything about it or saw remodeling crews, but they had their soft opening tonight. 60's themed with the place decked out in retro furniture and decorations. It looks like a classy change to what Midtown is used to.
-
I feel like they're really showing their hand by doing the remediation before purchasing the other lots.

Anybody know what's going on with this project? I noticed the fencing has been taken down and the backhoe is gone.

This lot was pretty sketchy the last time I walked by... looked like either drug or prostitution activity. This is one of the few times even a parking lot would be welcome.
