  1. I could of swore there was a thread covering St. Joseph's future. If anyone finds it feel free to merge :)

Anyways, it looks like the 119year old Hospital has found a new buyer. It appears that the new owner will continue running it as it has been.

I think some people suggested turning it into housing, I'm glad it will still remain a hospital. Yeah housing especially moderately priced housing would be a plus for downtown growth, but a hospital is a much needed amenity for the neighborhood.

    Here's the Chronicle story

    THEN WHAT?

  2. Maybe this new "Houston High" on MTV can make up for Houston being skipped over every season for The Real World. I mean really.....Houston is the largest city in the country without having a "Real World" season. Plus.....the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston metros are the largest in the country with out a "Real World".

MTV likes using cast members from Houston in The Real World and in many other reality shows. So why can't we get a season? It could certainly boost our city's image in the eyes of popular culture.

I'll admit, Austin was a great season and an ideal place to place "7 young strangers". I also know that since Austin, the chances of the show returining to Texas soon is really slim (but then again....they've been to Califorina 4 times, NY twice, and Florida twice), especially with other cities, such as Atlanta,Phoenix, Detroit, Portland, and D.C. seeking a season. MTV probably won't venture outside of the U.S. soon because of the Paris and London failures.

    Anyways, what should happen?

    Then what?

  3. while we squabble over whether gays can marry, what's in paris hilton's purse, whether madonna will be able to legally keep a black baby adopted from africa, and did OJ really murder nicole (and why it should or shouldn't be a book or be shown on fox) ... the world is literally falling apart around us and before our very eyes.

i guess it's easier for most people to get absorbed in the stupid stuff, than to take a really hard look at what is happening to us all.

Pace of Global Warming Causes Alarm

'Very different and frightening world' coming faster than expected, scientists warn

    by Seth Borenstein

Animal and plant species have begun dying off or changing sooner than predicted because of global warming, a review of hundreds of research studies contends.

These fast-moving adaptations come as a surprise even to biologists and ecologists because they are occurring so rapidly.

At least 70 species of frogs, mostly mountain-dwellers that had nowhere to go to escape the creeping heat, have gone extinct because of climate change, the analysis says. It also reports that between 100 and 200 other cold-dependent animal species, such as penguins and polar bears, are in deep trouble.

"We are finally seeing species going extinct," said University of Texas biologist Camille Parmesan, author of the study. "Now we've got the evidence. It's here. It's real. This is not just biologists' intuition. It's what's happening."

  4. Antoine @ Tidwell.

    Gigantic.

I'm guessin apartments, its the hood.

The land on Montrose from Allen Parkway to Dallas is going to be a Muslim Center. Looks pretty nice actually. They are not calling it a mosque, which I do not know the difference. See posting on the Montrose Board for more details and I posted a Chronicle article and others posted pics of similar ones in other cities.

    You kiddin me?

  5. With all the land clearings going on around Houston, I thought we could list and continuously update them all in one thread.

The one stuck in my head now is 59s @ Weslayan. There's a huge chunk of land right there where they tore down that old brown building. Any info?

    Sauce.
