  1. A couple weeks ago, near the corner of Webster and Baldwin caved in, there was a 5' hole in the street, maybe effects of the draught. Anyway, the city was out to fix it pretty quick. Ever since then, there has been a horrible egg smell in that area that is bad.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this smell. Kind of a frivolous post but thought I would see if anyone could shed some light on what it might be.

Got stuck there this morning and you could smell it in car with windows rolled up. Can't be good for the Post residents right there.

  2. I know this isn't yelp. Took a friend from Chicago straight from IAH last night. Had a great time, resonable prices, great food, even better beer.

This will be a big plus for the area when Underbelly opens in a couple weeks next door.

My friend from Chicago was blown away at the Houston Restaurant scene, remarked if this place opened in Chicago there would be a 3 month wait to get a table - took us 20 minutes.

  3. This is great - those 2 empty blocks need to get filled up! Renderings look great, skooljunkie any word on Construction start estimates? With more new developement on this side of midtown - maybe will squeeze Central Square/Greyhound and all of its ambience out.

I am assuming moving the Greyhound station North of Town is dead? I think I remember the city putting the kubosh on the Transit center North of DT.

With so many condos on that side of Midtown - I think the area is primed for a bar. Residents have to go East to Celtic Gardens. I think a bar over there would do well maybe closer to Baldwin Park.

  4. They also spent money fixing the sidewalks about 6 mo. ago. I wonder if they will drape some of these old abandonded buildings when All-Star Game comes in 2013?

When Houston had Superbowl or Final Four did they do any full building adds?

It's definetly not a fix but would look a lot better than current state. Also, saw someone paint balled the brick wall facing off Gray St.

  5. This place opened in Dallas on Knox/Henderson just north of Uptown right before we left. Cool place with big patio, Phil's spot has great layout. Funny how I tell people from Dallas that Washington = Knox/Henderson if you were going to compare neighborhoods.

Does anyone else who knows Dallas and Houston think.

    Midtown = Uptown

    Knox/Henderson = Washington

Obvi, Uptown Dallas is more developed, cleaner and a little ritzier (i.e. Ritz Carlton / Galleria like High Rises) BTW we like Midtown much more than Uptown Dallas.

  6. While we could debate over money well spent or wasted. Expanding the convention district downtown to attract larger conventions could only help Houston Tourism. More Hotels, fill in empty lots. I particularly like the example given about IAH, it won't lead to tourism immediately. In a perfect world, someone who comes from New Jersey (maybe in the dead of winter) for a large convention; gets excited at IAH about downtown, goes to convention, likes surrounding area, Discovery Green downtown ect, then brings their family back for vacation.

My story is missing a couple key pieces to an average convention visitor.

    1. No train to get to Downtown, I guess they take cab or rent car.

    2. Minus discovery green, still missing that excitment factor that would bring them back to visit around the convention center.

I have traveled for work/conferences and came back for a vacation. Examples, San Antonio, San Diego.

Good stuff on this thread, great responses.

  7. Looks great. If I didn't know what the Brazos looked like it would excite me even more. All waterways besides the gulf can be deciving kind of like the Bridge in Dallas over the creek/Trinity river. When I first moved to Dallas I kept looking for the trinity and then I saw the sign and I laughed.
