  1. It's funny that Fiesta has become my go-to-store after flirting with New HEB (Alabama) - Randalls Midtown (Closest) - Whole Foods / Trader Joes Alabama - great to have all the options and I use them all but for regular groceries standard weekly stuff that Fiesta has the best prices/ surprising amount of Healthy stuff 1/3 price of Whole Foods. I agree it's an asset and I think if Sears were to become something grand - the Fiesta may naturally give itself a nice facelift.

I have a friend who shops at that Sears - he told us at a party and we all laughed. Anyone been in there? Crazy place - there are a couple threads out there on the building and how they covered a pretty nice old facade with the current box shape. I will try to find and link.

  2. I walk to the area now to Boheme, Fairview and although it's not dead by any means I think MWD will really bring the area to life. The entire area all the way up Taft will see more restaurants, bars and activity in the next couple years IMO.

I hear you and would probably call myself out if I saw a post like that I'm just excited to be buying a house on this side of Midtown and all the new development around.

  3. It's not like I need more options I just think there's money to be made - I was in louisville last week and went to a subway at 1 AM - the fact that the subway in the heart of midtown next to shot bar closes at 10pm is the craziest thing to me _ no shit they are missing out on a tens of housansa

    Thousands**

  4. Way to ruin my thunder! JK - in any case I posted from my phone quickly bc I was jacked after my aforementioned great night out in MS - I can't believe what else is in the works!

    Sorry for the delayed respones...

Romas was a good slice - $3 quick and easy can't beat it. (Why is there no legit late night spot in Midtown ) Waffle House?

Clutch City's prices were very reasonable - bartender was very chatty "in a good way" owner was talking to us too. Happy Hour 4-9 $5 gets you a TX Draft and a shot of Jameson.

  5. Looks like les grivals will be replaced by restaurant and coffee shop next door

Man my post was spot on!! Stolen from reddit

The 300-500 block of Main just became... (self.houston)

The densest concentration of bars in the city.

The surrounding area anyway. At least 15 full bars and a brewpub in less than a two block radius. And there are at least two more coming.

From nearly dead to an entertainment district in under 18 months.

  6. Spent Tuesday night downtown with a buddy. Started at Franklin Tap - then over to OKRA - then to Clutch City Squire and finished off the night with a NYC Slice from Roma's Pizza. Had a great night and all the new spots had customers and were not dead by any means. Talked to one of the owners of Clutch City - the building has a ridiculous history including a "one-way" safe door only opened from the former bank next door.

I will be bringing friends to this area and truly believe it has a ton of potential to put a huge booster shot in DT nightlife. Also, the additional nearby spots that are just empty waiting for something new; I believe could be a huge benefit. Now just pump in one or two residential towers and we would be "cooking with kerosene" !

"Started with Original OKRA Charity Saloon and continued with Clutch City City Squire is only building more momentum with Goro & Gun. By the beginning of April, Justin Burrow's Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar and Spirit Lounge and Latin American restaurant Batanga will open"

  7. True - give it 6-9 months and something new will pop up then it may just be a convenience to be so close. I see more bars popping up further down Bagby as construction finishes. Is UNION bar closed?

PS -I've posted about it before but can we please install and light up Bagby at night. Pitch black still many months later.

  8. When I saw this post I figured Cafe Layal was closing down. I live close and it is pretty dead on most nights. Nice place, I've been and enjoyed it but something is off on the set-up / interior. Glad to see the improvements and maybe I need to give it another shot!

  9. That's cool for Dallas. I want to hate on big D as an adopted Houstonian I like it here so much more... but this is just gravy at this point for DART maybe they are looking at McKinney Ave Trolley and thinking today people for some reason like to ride an old trolley car even in a car obsessed city like Dallas.

Yes, Oak Cliff is not Uptown but it's pretty funky and gentrifying quickly. I have a friend who's mom lives there after 75 years and she said the new "white influx" is extremely strange.. From her mouth: when a white man used to come to my door it was either police or a bill collector; now I don't answer as it's another person trying to low-ball me for my house.
