  1. And made a lot of money for his friends also. I'm not sure it's even necessary right now. And if you compare it against other projects I don't think it would've been at the front of the line. The only saving grace is that it's a toll road so people will talk with pocketbooks.
  2. It depends what the sole purpose of the project. In this situation even the founder said he had no interest in traffic issues, only development which would enrich him and his cronies. If it's a 100% handoff like this, I'm against it.Not sure what was biased about the article I posted. It gave a history of how absurd the grand parkway project was.
  3. It is corruption and I'm against it in all forms. It's no different than the Sicilian mafia using influence to have unnecessary projects built.
  4. Denying reality again. Making profits off a project only they could create is essentially giving yourself a kickback.
  5. So using political power to create the mechanisms to building a highway that wasn't necessary to profit a small group of people is okay to you? That is corruption.
  6. From the first article The truth hurts
  7. http://m.yourhoustonnews.com/archives/residents-upset-over-grand-parkway/article_913dac5e-e45e-51f4-b28e-715a413514c3.html?mode=jqm
  8. What's ridiculous is living in denial. Educate yourself http://usa.streetsblog.org/2011/11/02/texas-sprawl-builders-funneled-taxpayer-to-highway-that-enriched-them/
  9. And it is a fact that bob Lanier owned massive amounts of land where the Katy prarie portion of the grand parkway was built and is a former highway commissioner. Look you can choose to ignore every coincidence and think everything is happenstance but keep the ignorance in college station.
  10. TXDOT is making toll roads because it's broke. Feeder roads, while I'm not sure of their impact to traffic, are ugly and create swathes of strip malls. The grand parkway expansion had nothing to do with solving traffic and everything to do with people who owned that land and developers. It's fascinating TXDOT can look into future patterns and make roads for that but totally ignore rail for the same purpose.
  11. Feeder roads aren't as necessary as you think.
  12. 35 won't get built. The neighborhoods would fight it at this point. As far as tollways I'm all for them. Drivers can pay with their pocketbook if that's their choice of mode of travel. Add in se congestion pricing too.
  13. Where the fort bend commuter rail would end would be nowhere near pearland. Also there is a huge population base in pearland that commutes to the medical center and to an extent downtown. Freeways are an awful investment but you don't say anything about that.
  14. Rail to downtown and med center would get heavy ridership
  15. It would be cool if there was a stop off 288 with a one stop train into medical center kind of like grand central to penn station shuttle also.
  16. Rail down the middle to 518 or so. And then with leftover space feeder or shoulder, I'm not sure what's more important out of those two though. Shoulder is probably easier.
  17. Also under the bridge are restaurants not really areas to walk around
  18. I remember that. Being surrounded by water makes a huge difference.
  19. I would like an example of a nice area under a freeway bridge anywhere.
  20. And those lots have unlimited potential. Downtown is the easiest place to get out of because of one way grid streets. It's worth putting people in traffic if it makes downtown a better place. You would've preferred freeways to plow through NYC also
  21. I would say the hard line is for keeping the pierce. Proposing that it get torn down gets people up in arms around here.
  22. Too bad the people on charge won't agree to that either. And evidently you're unaware of rail investment being made worldwide.
  23. If mass transit is built on the right corridors there would be hundreds of thousands of riders.
  24. Or, destroy pierce and build better mass transit. 610 borders on neighborhoods no way it gets expanded. This obsession with widening and god forbid stacking needs to end.
