I don't understand why people have to stand around at the Walmart/Meyerland. (out front) I mean they just loiter. My best place to park in that area is at the "Luby's". I mean the Walmart area has a pretty pond with ducks and this ugly Walmart. I went in there and its a madhouse. I mean the aisles are EXTREMELY narrow and there is never anything in stock as someone mentioned.
As far as Circuit City...even if it wasn't there, I have walked out of that store alot too. The one on Hwy 6 (Circuit City) is SO dark I keep thinking their closed and everything is pushed in the back (along with no help).
They need a Petco/Petsmart out near Meyerland. Chik Fil A may be packed but their quick and the owner is VERY friendly (inside) .
I didn't even know Pier 1 was open!
Weird thing about the Halllmark is I went in one day and a lady who worked there asked me if I went to "Herod" elementry school. I did go to that school and she remembered my teachers AND myself! That is bizarre!! LOL but cool!
-
I found out they aren't closed but must be leasing half their store to another company. Because I saw people walk in and out of there...but yet there is a big "FOR LEASE" sign on the side of the building. Weird!
The closet book store to me is Barnes and Nobles and Half Price.
However, Half Price is used books and don't carry some newer books I'd like to own that a bigger bookstore might have.
I don't live near Meyerland but I go there alot. (With Target there, perhaps the books are cheaper then Borders) -or some of the books (as well as music)
Maybe the rent is costly and Borders needs another company to help with the cost of leasing.
-
The Borders is up for lease. (my dad was shocked when he saw the huge banner outside)
-
I'm ready to walk out of Super Walmart @ Kirkwood...they are acting like the Walmart at Meyerland. don't give a sh** to what I treat the customer like type of attitude. unfornately I can't say the same for the Target on Wilcrest. I absoutely HATE that store! I walk out of there everytime. good luck finding help.
Can someone tell me what happened to the Borders at Meyerland? I thought it was doing SO WELL!!!
-
Godfather's I have seen around across the nations in some states. I don't remember where.
-
My dad just gained 20,000 new neighbors!
You know last week we saw some group vans at the Luther's there (on sunday) and well we thought that was bad. Now this will be even harder to get to.
But at least there are eating places around the area, and if anything the Medical center is not far away!
My work is making 200 sandwiches to give to donate. Its not enough I know but we got to think of our own expenses as well. My dad also said he doesn't care if its a tax ride off. Its just to help these people in need.

Lenny's Sub Shops

Potbelly Sanwdich Works isn't all that great. It's like Subway but with better bread, and less fillings.
Johnny Rockets is a chain of 50's retro hamburger and hot dog joints. Good food, but expensive. And you have to pay extra for fries!
So Johnny Rockets is an overglorified "Princes"...at least Princes has some roots here like James coney island.
-
Not just Blimpies, Subway or Quiznos...there are I think 3 or 4 new sub resturants opening up. Is there a high demand for it in this city or what?
I'll fill y'all in more when I get the details. It was in the resturarant news reports.
and another place callled, "Johnny Rockets" I THINK I saw in Florida or Tulsa. I can't remember.
-
anyone mention, "Kettle" I have seen a couple of those looming around far and few and inbetween
-
I like the HEB near me. Its BIG!! (Kirkwood/Westheimer). I hate the Randalls though on Wilcrest. Its big and confusing (and expensive)
If I need kosher, I'll head to that HEB on Kirkwood. I have only been in the Beldons a couple times and the HEB across the street I don't like. Its too tiny.
I remember I Went into Seller Brothers near Stella Link one time. I wear a backpack purse and they wouldn't allow me to carry the purse inside the store! (not that it was an actual size backpack!)
that Seller Bro. is NASTY!
I went to that Chinese Resturant once and well never really went back. I started going to this place called, "Panda Express" near Walmart (on Richmond going toward Kirkwood) -in the strip center
$5.50 -lunch (combo order before 4) you get a won ton soup, egg roll, dinner and a cookie, NOT a bad deal! for $12 (food for 2 people) even better. The people are nice there too! :-D
-
y'now:
Beldens has some VERY good hebrew national salami! But I found it at HEB at times! :9 (and now it comes Cotto Salami!! Hallujah!
That Dunvale and feeling like you left the U.S. (LMAO!!! TOO FUNNY!!)
i get Meyer Park/Meyerland mixed up b/c I don't live around the area but I am familiar with it.
Every senior citizen in the Meyer area (better? ) goes to Casa Ole' over there!! The seniors don't need Margarita nite thurs!! Can't they just go play Bingo or something! (BTW I am kidding!)

Key word: Had. Have you been back since? I found one up in Chambana, IL and I practically ran screaming with joy headlong through the front door. The rolls are just as excellent as I had remembered them but ... Oh, man. The rest of their food is on par with Taco Bell Grade.
I haven't been back since.
I saw them scattered I don't remember where.
I remember seeing one in N.Richland Hills TX and Champaign IL.
BTW, it seems like you have to go through every country named place in Texas to get a Grandy's LOL!!!

I HATE going to that little bitty crowded Walmart in Meyerland. The only thing pretty in that area is the Lake and the ducks (and expensive apartments across the street. The lanes in Walmart are crowded and hard to find anything.
I love my Super Walmart I go to on Kirkwood!
My pet peeve is Target on Wilcrest but I have mentioned that too many times before.
If you want to put dumpy stores next to each other:
Target on Wilcrest
Walmart in Meyerland
I just think Target on Wilcrest needs to knock down half its strip center. We don't need a Ross, Paylis Royal (however you spell it), Keep Petco too, I like them!!! (keep the Carnival shoes, they got some good prices!!) .
-
ooh Grandy's had THE BEST chicken!!! and their rolls. Reminds me of Golden Corral's honey butter with those rolls. y'all are bringing back some MAJOR senses of smell here.
I remember getting the Grandy's kids platter when I was little.
-
Kahn's is good, good stuff. The prices might look high for a sandwich, until you realize you can get two or three meals out of one sandwich!
My dad's company delievers him pickles and food to Khans Deli. I have never eaten there but we go there quite often for his business. Same for Kenny & Ziggy's.

Not quite your family resturant (Colorado Club)
-
I remember eating breakfast at some restaurant called "Champ's" as a child. I liked the little train that would go around near the ceiling, and it would pass through some shelves filled with stuff. I think they closed down a few years back(I think there were multiple locations).
Oh, and yes, I also remember this place called JoJo's, which was pretty good(This was near the Fondren area, I think, where i used to live). I don't know if they are still open, though.
I have mentioned this earlier.
Champs had this frosted ugly yellow windows. I can vaquely remember the smell of Pancakes. Its the aroma I was left with.
JoJo's used to be on Braswood I think.

I was inside West Oaks when I saw Meryvins was gone. I noticed today going to W.Oaks that JcPenny's had their "going out of business" sale. I keep hearing prices for rent is too high.Getting a little off topic, but I drove by West Oaks yesterday and was shocked to see Mervyn's closed and JC Penney with going out of business signs up.They no sooner finish a huge renovation and two anchor stores are going out? Doesn't speak well for the mall at all. When I lived in Westchase I always enjoyed shopping at West Oaks, and the last time I was there when the renovation was nearing completion I thought it was looking very good.West Oaks probably had too many department store anchors. There used to be six, then after Palais Royal left in 2000 their spot sat empty for a few years until Linens & Things went into it. Now there will still be three department store anchors, provided Dillard's, Sears, and Foley's (Macy's) stay. Those three, plus Alamo Drafthouse, and the smaller stores might be enough to keep the place hanging on for a while. That mall does have a history of trying to find its niche -- it originally was built as a suburban Galleria with stores like Saks and Lord & Taylor. After Saks and Lord & Taylor left and were more middle-class stores, the mall did seem to be more successful.
I hate some of these unknown stores. After the renovations I was sure the mall was going to be better too. Sad that it looks like they are all leaving.

JCPenny's is going out of business!!! That mall is going to hell!
JCPenny's is moving to Katy. I did get some good deals (even with Tax free and the discount) but ANOTHER anchor store going byebye!
ARRGH! I think I'm going to Memorial City Mall for now on!

there used to be an El Pollo Loco here in the 80's..on the east freeway...maybe at Kress?
Applebee's? are they back now? they were here in the early 90's.
Woolworth's Grill? I specifically remember the one in Almeda Mall.
Timmychan,
Nah..I never ate at Steak and Egg but my wife did. I can believe it that everything was there from then from what she said.
Applebees is being built by West Oaks mall.
HORRAY!! I like it there!
Speaking of West Oaks Mall. There is NOTHING left of that store. Mervyins is now gone, its all fashion in the mall (and Dept stores), NO bookstore, there is a cell phone cart around every inch of the mall.
So unless you want clothes or something to eat not even worth going to West Oaks anymore
They took out Kaybee as well, Carlton Cards, Meryvins, Blockbuster Music, I heard Disney store was going out soon too.
okay sorry back on topic.
Bennigans is going out it seems. I liked it there too!

Princes Hamburgers (only one left on the freeway) -anyone daring to try it after Lakewood Church lets out?
Mary Lee Donuts are everywhere. One down the street on Dairy Ashford, another in Sugar Land, TX.

Furrs!! LOL! I went to the one..okay you know.. El Paso had a Furr's right down the street from me. Wasn't too bad. More or less like a Luby's.
How about Shakey's pizza (I think it was Shakey's)
I vaguely remember my stepfather working at one. (when he had a mustache and the 80's haircut)...

Weinenschitzel?
They still have those in Flagstaff.
Weinersnitzel was in El Paso too.
Was "Checkers" ever in Houston? (it was in Florida Orlando area)
Meyer Park Shopping Center At 4800 West Bellfort Rd.
