editor
London's newest skyscraper, Shard London Bridge, is now under construction (the "official" start of construction isn't for three more days, but why wait?) More about the project on HAIF's sister site LACU: http://www.londonarchitecture.co.uk/Buildi...ridge_Tower.php And here's a video:
Highway6
Impressive looking building. Not sure how I'm just now hearing about the Shard. Designed by Renzo Piano.. it will be the 2nd tallest building in Europe at 1,017 ft upon completion... approx. 43rd tallest in the World. Website.. http://www.shardlond....com/index.html has the above video in a bigger format as well as countless other videos, renderings, and facts. lockmat
I like it.I see a cluster of bridges near the building but not many others else where. They must have to go far out of their way to cross the water. Seems odd. Anyone know why?
lockmat
oh yeah, i had another question. any idea on what they had to demolish in order to build it?
Highway6
There's enough bridges.. I think the perspective of the rendering is throwing you off.Take a look at Google maps... you have a bridge every half mile to mile through the heart of London.Plus, you're not seeing the additional 10 or so places the Tube crosses under the river. The Shard is replacing the 24 story Southwark Towers, built in the late 70s. Should've demo'd some low-rise.http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/245SouthwarkTowers_pic2.jpg
Ross
Those 1970's London highrises are pretty much crap. Poorly designed and constructed. I lived there from 72-76 and saw some truly awful stuff go up. The climate controls are poor, elevators are mediocre, etc.
