Does anyone have any expierence with the local ice house in the Willowbend neighorhood called Red Rice Ice House located at 10308 South Main Street? Red River Ice House invites you to our laid back sports bar and grill near NRG Stadium Houston. https://www.redrivericehouse.com/ Typical sports bar? Do they happen to have (basic) craft beer such as Saint Arnold, Buffalo Bayou Brewing, 8th Wonder Brewery, Karbach Brewing? Looking for more places to sit down and enjoy a cold one. Nothing like drinking a beer, watching sports and eating fried food and cheese!

Anyone remember the various ice houses around Houston? I imagine there were a lot at one time. The kind I'm thinking of were mostly open-air, reach-in coolers and, of course, the primary pastime was drinking beer. Were these places called bars back then? They didn't server liqour, though. Two I remember in the early to mid-70s were Ruth's and Bang's. Bang's was on Bissonet Street approximately in the area of Newcastle near the railroad tracks. It was open on three sides if I remember right. Anyone have any pictures of this one? Ruth's (if that was what it was called) was somewhere in the area of S. Shepherd Drive and W. Alabama. I can't remember now exactly where it was. There is some sort of school in that area and Ruth's was in the neighborhood across the street from there. Ruth ran the place and had an attached apartment she lived in. It was open on at least one side and she kept a large cage with one or two pet squirrels in it. I managed to drive by there and find it in the early 90's. The building was actually still there.

I remember all of the ice houses around town. Real ice houses where you bought blocks of ice. Big blocks of ice.... and they would chip them up if you wanted.

I have spent countless days and night's at Meyer's Speedway and just recalled this local beer garden. Share your memories! Post your pictures!

OK. I don't know the name of this place, but in mid 70's used to party with my cousin and her then boyfriend and eventual husband at this little bar.. on Shepherd.. north on Shepherd, past 11th street, past the veterinarian's I believe.. on the left.. this little ice house/bar, had to drive a little off shepherd.. had horseshoes.. saw live musician there once, this Australian (?) guy who sang this tune I'd heard before "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" or something like this. Darts were played there too.. a dart league nite. Anyone? My cousin thought this place was called High Noon?

A little history for HAIF, Back in the day, after races at Meyer's Speedway on Hillcroft Street & South Main Street we used to go to the small convenience store/ice house called Super Serv located on South Post Oak Road near South Main Street. Edit: The ice house had a few nick names. We also called it the South Post Oak Ice House. The bar backed up to Waukesha Pearce Industries which is located at 12320 South Main Street. I had some wild, wild times there! Good old South Main! This was before commercial development really took off in Southwest Houston. Anyone else recall this place? Share your memories and photos!

Hello all, I'm recalling some of my old teenage/young adult memories and just remembered an old ice house/bar called The Dugout. This would have been located near the old Meyer's Speedway - South Post Oak Road near South Main Street. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of this bar? I wonder if there are any matchbooks around? Thanks for any help! Share your memories--
